I bought a 91 FLD to restore and it has this problem on one axle. This is a big help on how to fix it... Thanks

Nice video! I have a '15 cascadia evo. And I've definitely tried everything you mentioned. New bushings, shocks, tire's, U bolts and within a week it went right back to leaning. Going to take your advice and change that part, but will also tell them to weld it to the axle. I do a lot of OTR, light freight so I'm not to worried about braking something as I always do my proper PM's. Keep up the good work.

Hi there please give us an update on how it worked out.
@rafaelcadena443 жыл бұрын
@@stevefanslow3530 thus far it's solid. I didn't have them change the metal plate but I did have them install Atro bushings rear and front, new U-bolts and had realignment done. Everything is definitely holding up. Plus checked torque after 500 miles. Everything was still tight.

This thing happens even in freightliner cascadia 2016. That my new truck drives like it's riding on the devil.

I’m not a Freightliner owner, but if I had this problem I would tack weld the ubolt nuts so they couldn’t work themselves loose. Once torqued/tacked, it would be a done deal. Driving down the road and thinking about my axle walking around is worrisome...couple tacks and done.
@DIYSEMI4 жыл бұрын
We did consider that, i put my trust in the alignment guy that suggested this to me. He didnt let me down. Welding would have been the next step.

Great comments, I'm not an expert. But I ben researching this , I think the u bolts stretch over time especially New ones. Tacking them might cause a problem .

can anyone tell me who aligns the drive line? I have a Colombia 2006, the mechanics did not put the pads under the axel correctly and the crosspieces were constantly breaking because the cardan was looking up all the time ... but now, three years later, I solved this problem until I began to study it all myself. Can anyone help with the shops where the drive line is aligned so that there is no vibration and everything else? I live in Florida south of Tampa 80 miles. I would be glad if anyone can help me in this matter. Thanks!

What are the torque specs for the ubolts? I also have a Columbia. Thanks for the content, man. I'm glad someone is actually doing in depth coverage on how to's.

Not sure. All i could find online was 450lbs. But i dont really think thats right. Freightliner couldnt even tell me.We used a 1 inch impact and kinda just watched as we tightened them. Did them in increments in a cross pattern,kinda like you do with lug nuts on your tires. Glad you are enjoying. Im really hoping to empower owner ops...so much nonsense going on in this industry. If we are going to survive, we have to really figure these things out. Im tired of giving money away and getting sub par results. I hope every freightliner owner sees this repair...ive spent well over 10k trying to figure it out. Freightliner should be ashamed for ignoring this problem.
@helltrucker66675 жыл бұрын
@@DIYSEMI Same here!! I have well over 10k in repairs and it's all shotty work!! You explained in the first suspension video, what was going on better than the 'mechanic' at freightliner who fixed it could. Just a suggestion, but a video on what tools you should invest in so you can tackle moderate repairs and maintenance would be cool. It could also lead to people wanting to sponsor you and helping you get a bigger tool collection. I'll try to ask around about torque specs, or see if i can find a build book like you'd get for regular cars. I'll let you know what I find out.

@@DIYSEMI you should not use air impact use hand tighten torque wrench only
@jeffreykreft54422 жыл бұрын
@@donrice8026 I was going to say if they are using a 1 inch impact to tighten them down, then there is a hell of a lot more torque than 450ftlbs. Probably closer to at least double that! Although I don’t think 450ftlbs would be enough torque to keep the plates from moving around and working itself loose!

Cam you show the part numbers so i can get the parts to fix mine

I just called the dealership. The parts dept said that the "spacer block plate" and even the mounting bracket are apart of the leaf spring. Did you say they replaced your spacer block and spacer block plate or did you have to source a new leaf spring to get that plate replaced? Liked and Subscribed!
@DIYSEMI4 жыл бұрын
The space block is a stand alone part...those thin plates are part of the spring. I did replace the leaf springs due the the ends being worn. My truck is a glider that was built with used springs.I recommend t and e tire in Kansas city. Talk to Chris. Then see chad at me alignment in the same building . I don't know if you saw the original video where I show the parts off the truck. Go back in the channel and watch that one. You will see how those parts are separate.let me know if any questions.

Check cab mounts
@carlosburgos56 Жыл бұрын
Your airbags are maybe too high. That causes the the cabin leaning more in one side plus it makes bad alignment of the drive shaft and vibrations at certain speed. Usually between 45 to 75 mph. The right distance between the axle stop and the U bolt should be 2 inches and 3/8. You get that by adjusting the leveling valve
