Unfortunately they left themselves open to attack, no one was pulling security, especially their rear. Also they exposed themselves a lot by trying to run across the open area without laying enough suppressive cover fire. And on top of that when they did lay some cover fire, they crossed in front of the person who was firing. Hopefully this is just an isolated incident, but they need to work on tactics and roles and responsibilities when responding to direct fire.

12:15 It's a German IFV called "Marder" It has a 20mm autocannon - sounds weak to modern standards but it has a cyclic rate of 1000 rounds per minute, which kinda makes up for its lack in caliber. It also has a secondary MG as usually and can/will be equipped with MILAN ATGM. The high rate of fire on the main gun goes back to the idea of using it in limited anti-aircraft role as well. Helicopters should avoid getting too close to it. Over it's entire service time, it was a much beloved vehicle by german armored/motorized infantry (Panzergrenadiere) It's not a Puma though, which is Germany's current IFV. @Denys Germany is also sending "Gepard" AAA Tanks, which are comparable to Russia's Tunguska-M1 system. Gepard uses a bigger caliber with it's twin barreled 35mm guns but has no SA missiles. It's been similarly liked by those who served on them and next to it's AA role, it's pretty capable in ground combat as well. 35mm with the same cyclic rate as "Marder" gun is devastating. I love the bikes! I was lucky to have worked with some Ukrainian software developers in the past. That history and the development of these bikes only prove how innovative and technologically savvy Ukrainians are. Their innovation can also be seen in the anti tank weapon they have created as well as upgrading of the captured heavy weapons and armor the Russians left behind. Such innovation, I am sure, will be put towards creating an economic power in the future. When Ukraine wins this conflict, the Russians will soon be incredibly jealous. No one will want to do business with the Russians because all they do is destroy and kill. Ukrainians on the other hand, have shown their ability create, innovate and lead. As long as Ukraine has a welcoming democracy and rule of law, they will be the envy of the world after this conflict is over.

There might be more than just artillery involved in this action. Or alternatively, some of the artillery is using guided munitions that can actually target individual targets, while the rest are firing "dumb" shells for the more traditional area of effect. Impressive nonetheless.

Based on the rate of fire, this looks like one battery of howitzers -- and they are firing smart shells of some type. That is, they have terminal homing capability. The drone that is videoing the shots is certainly the source for the fire missions. It could be laser designating this or that tank. The nato smart artillery ammunition (it is literally called smart btw) selects targets by itself, you can't controll it. It has disadvantages, because the final 155mm explosive glides down on a parachute, detaches itself from the chute at around 100 meters when it found a target and uses thrusters to hit its decided target. The risk of friendly fire is very high (that ammunition is now also 20 years old and you can't expect it to differenciate friend from foe) and the "AI" in the shell is know to target less importants targets like cars or infantry instead of tanks. It is basically the european computer based new iteration of the US cancelled Sadarm and the precursor of the currently produced US loitering drones. It is most likely not excalibur but smart (the laser and gps guided artillery would have lost tracking, because that tank drove through smoke and still was hit with pinpoint accuracy) while all those other shells went poof far off its target

Sadarm could have been declared as such ammunition, but it was developed in the 70s and computers and minituarization were not advanced enough for it to even reach testing phase. Smart is the EU system, but you are right, the EU bought the old Sadarm system and advanced it further. But this also goes both ways: the US loitering drones use the smart programming of the early days loitering artillery. And this is what allies are: you can't afford to dabble into one specific thing, because you just had heavy spendings on a different programm? Let allies do it and you then can trade weapons. The US did the same thing with their new IFV to the Lynx and using the new Leopard Cannon for their Abrams. Meanwhile the US focuses its reseach on AI systems

Yeah having to shout like that was only going to attract attention and arguing meant that their attention was on each other not their surroundings. The guys who nearly got hit, the ones who were arguing with the leader, all had their backs to the shooters. If they had saddled up to move out as he had indicated they would have been face-to the enemy and moving around, probably crouching ... those guys were essentially standing straight up with their backs exposed not moving. On the other hand the leader was sending them partly in the direction that the enemy fired on them from so maybe they were arguing because the situation was sketchier than it looks. @@2Dracula2 ok , I'm not sure where the Nord is . I think Ukraine is close to same climate as central sask. , And we are just into spring , still got snow in the bush , below freezing some nights . Grass has started to green for two weeks . It will be a couple months yet till summer . What we see in the vid looks much like same growth as I see out my window

As far as I heard/read, the T-90M does not have the famous ammunition ring in the tower. Instead, the ammunition is stored in the back compartment, simillar to the Abrams tanks. This would also explain, why the tower did not fly off, like the rest of them do after such damage. This does not apply to the T-90, which is more or less just another rebranded T-72.

The Western artillery pieces delivered could be in use. They have a range of 30 to 50 km and are extremely accurate. They have advanced radar and satilite uplinks that provide real time targeting information. They are configured for what is known as a kill chain. The Russians probably posses something similar however not nearly as effective. Their artillery is more old school which you can see in their tactics.

There are at least three main types of guided munitions. Copperhead, Bonus and Excalibur represent the three types.

The artilery vids started coming from the beginning. They manufacture their own guided shells and have very good artilery.

Given the incredible accuracy of the Ukrainian artillery since early in the war, I think they have some tools that they are keeping secret, such as laser guided artillery rounds. The US made M712 Copperhead rounds are very good at this kind of thing. Just because the US recently contributed some M777 cannons recently, with great amounts of media coverage, doesn't mean that some US 155mm weapons weren't already in use there. Слава Украине!!!

WIth conventional ammo, an M-777 cannon can hit a water bucket from 20km away with 99.5% accuracy. With the modern targeting systems that are AI enhanced, if you have a good artillery officer in the field, there is no need to have laser guided missiles for those kind of hits.

a lot of these guys are minimally trained volunteers putting life and limb at risk to defend their country. Even still, they are often better trained, equipped and motivated than the Russian aggressors. After all, they got ambushed, were flanked by a tank, and still got away with no casualties...

Ukraine is winning against a hapless enemy. Thank you Ukraine, Europe hasn't seen this since WWII. Ukraine with our help eill, vanquish the inept Russian army, navy and airforce. My Dad would have been proud, he fought in Battle of the Bulge, WWII.

I'm not sure I'd describe the Ukrainians' position as "winning" right now. They are suffering punishing losses and losing a little ground every day, more especially in the East. The Russians are losing a lot more men and materials daily, but they can afford to do so. It's a horrible place to be for everyone involved. It's likely to continue like this until something major changes. It could be weather, it could be the appearance of significant aid from the West. Even then, it takes a huge effort to dislodge troops from dug-in positions. All we can hope is that the Russians are as bad at digging in as they seem to be at everything else on the battlefield.

Hi Denys, As a Wildlife Biologist, please note that fire is a friend of nature. We have had it drummed into us by the forestry industry that fire is bad. It is not. Fire burns the wood that the industry would like to cut down and sell, but the wildlife need fire. The fire opens up the forest so it is not a monoculture of a single age trees. It recovers quickly, with grasses, leaving the canopy open to the sun so other successional stage trees can grow (popular, aspen, birch, etc), before coniferous trees grow back. Wildlife need this variation in habitat.... Fire does all this! and Wildlife LOVE IT! Great vid and thank you for keeping us up to date on the battle to save Ukraine.
