Yesterday Artur Rehi covered the differences between breaking off to the East (like they are in the diagram you are showing) vs breaking south. The southern road runs right between some trenches and looked like the kind of road that would be surrounded by mines and would allow Russians to dial in the artillary shots to set points. That's probably why the AFU forces are starting with a sweep to the right. They're going to have to sweep west again to keep a broad, defensible front, but doing it from behind or frrom the side will help them pick off the artillary as they go. Slava Ukraine. Heroyem Slava. Thanks for another great report. And thanks for pointing out the difference in long-range targets when Russia strikes, as opposed to now when Ukraine strikes. It is obvious Ukraine is only targeting legitimate military capabilities (legal) while Russia targets military capabilities, but also specifically targets critical civilian infrastructure -- schools, hospitals, electricity/heat/water facilities. Similarly to the Il-76 engines, lots of Russia and also USSR space stuff was made in Ukraine. NBC said the other day when India landed on the moon, that only the USA, China and Russia had done so. Russia has done no such thing. USSR did, and many of the parts and talent came from elsewhere in the Soviet Union. Anything accomplished by USSR was USSRs doing, not Russia. If Russia has landed craft on the moon, then so has Ukraine, Kazakstan, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, etc.

It's just the looks. Ukraine destroys 20-30 Russian howitzers, several electronic warfare equipment (e.g. radar) and 500+ personnel every day for some two months already. Just yesterday 9 tanks, 17 APCs, 26 howitzers and 44(!) trucks. No way Russia could sustain this for long. Advances seen now were made possible with all these previous efforts.

​@@traumflug It's also possible due to all the air strikes against bridges and railroads from Crimea, ambushing supply convoys, having bridgeheads scattered to keep lines thin etc. Everything has a purpose and is helping with the breakthrough, even the troops working away at Bahkmut or guarding Kupyansk right now are helping the southern forces. I am glad that all the prep work does seem to be paying off. Hopefully they can make a lot more progress before Russia has the ability to rethink their strategy.
