Frederik the Great: "he who defends everything, defends nothing". George Washington: "the best defense is a good offense". The worst thing a defender can do is to fight where the attacker wants him to fight. Russia would love to see Ukraine doing nothing but defending at the frontlines. It makes Ukrainian action predictable and means that the initiative is totally in the hands of Russia. That's bad, very bad. Few resources? Perhaps. Last resources? Absolutely not, because if that was the case, Russia would have advanced far, far more faster by now. You are demoralized, Denys. Now: soldier: get up and fight, even against overwhelming bad news, destruction, the cold and misery which is present in Ukraine at the moment. You sound like the enemy is at the gates of Kiyv...

I don't think Denys understands the strateic political value of the Kursk intrusion. Especially this war, is only about politics. It's never been about territory. Else Russia would not have atacked Kyiv at the beginning of the full scale invasion. And talk about "denazification", which really only means Russia wants a Russian puppet regime in Ukraine. Ukraine holding a piece of Russian territory sends a lot of important signals. To supporting allies - countering the argument that Ukranian defeat is inevidable. It counters any unfavourable freeze of the conflict. And it definately makes Russian's think about not beeing that victorious - especially since drones and missiles also are hitting far inside Russia. And finally, I think it will be a very important and undeniable reminder to Russian's, once the war stops, that will make attacking Ukraine again more difficult. Capturing that nuclear powerplant isn't that important. If Ukraine does it, OK, if not, it doesn't make much of a difference. Hitting refineries with drones is more damaging and important.

Ukraine's biggest advantage in fighting Russia on their home territory is defensive AA, expert knowledge of their home territory, and support from the locals that stayed back. Attacking enemy territory is great for raids, sowing destruction and chaos, but trying to hold it is nothing short of stupid. Your troops are exposed, supplies go through enemy territory, and the locals hate you more than they do their government. The waste of manpower and machinery is like the attempt to capture Novoprokopivka.
@barrywalford853324 күн бұрын
I’m finding Denys’ negativity disappointing. It is surely advantageous for Ukrainian forces to take the initiative in Kursk and place the ruSSian forces under pressure. I’m not convinced that the UA ever seriously expected to take the Kursk NPP, but the possibility obliged the Orcs to divert forces to its defence. As it is, occupying and holding a chunk of Kursk has served its purpose in diverting Orcish forces to try to retake this territory and humiliating the enemy.

Publicity (foreign troops in Russia under Putin not pushed out), Resources (otherwise allotted to other fronts) and a fight on Russian territory. Three hits. Finally, it seemed unexpected, even you found it unexpected. Wow: that strengthens all the three objectives. So great that there is no certain public positional goal, who cares? Ukraine attacks when unexpected and defends in such a way that it maximizes Russian destruction. Excellent leadership! Russia panics, is controlled by political objectives, and in the mean time, Ukraine hits their military-industrial economy hard. Russia's capabilities constantly degrade while their economy is hit hard as seem by the Ruble - rouble.

Hello Denys. Your point about Moscow's lack of care for Kursk is understood. However, all of the Russian forces in Ukraine are by choice, you can say Putin's choice. The Kursk incursion is the one battle that has has foisted upon Russia which is not chosen by Russia. The clear and present demonstration that Russia is unable to maintain a position of choice creates a fundamental difference in how the Western partners perceive the current strength and will of the Russian armed forces. I think you are not fully appreciating the effect this has on Western partners willingness to continue to supply military support at this late stage. Kursk may not matter to Moscow, as you say, but it matters tremendously to the West in how the prospect for the war is viewed.

Even the lack of care by moscow isnt really true. They cant make it look like they care too much due to how bad it is going but Putin for sure care a lot. An authoritarian regime keeps power by the projected strength of it more than its real power since they dont actually have the ability to supress everyone at once with force. Having that show of strength slowly erode when they show they cant even take back Kursk is massive. But if they stop their progress in the East to focus on Kursk that would be like openly admit they are weak and Ukraine is too strong.

Denys, Love your channel, but have to disagree with you on the Kursk operation. There are several good reason for Ukraine to do this...two huge ones I want to point out is that playing defense wins nothing and it shows the world that Ukraine is strong and worthy of support. Ukraine cannot win by only playing defense and/or without a large collation of support. Kursk provides both, plus morale among others positives. Ukraine is on the best course and will prevail...Ukraine will come out of this as one of the strongest European countries in the EU and NATO.

9 of 27 (2024y.) While Zelensky is telling the West about democracy, his party members Hetmantsev and Mazurashu are introducing a bill according to which men who illegally left the country and returned to Ukraine must pay a fine of 25,000 hryvnia ($ 625) for each month of absence instead of their possible mobilization to the front. The staff of military enlistment offices consists of 100,000 trained military personnel, 70% of whom have never been to the front and will not go, they are engaged in trapping people, detainees can pay off for $ 3,000. The commanders of many units or battalions send the wounded and shell-shocked to the front line, soldiers are sent to hold positions for slaughter, without providing them with water, food and medical care (there are no medics in the companies), they are given impossible tasks. There are not enough weapons and equipment, soldiers who returned early from their positions are accused of "unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service," for which the military faces a fine or imprisonment for a period of 2 to 10 years. Walkie-talkies, unmanned aerial vehicles and other equipment donated by volunteers are transferred to the balance of the unit, after which military personnel are responsible for them and must use their money to compensate for the loss or unsuitability of equipment and equipment. Most of the humanitarian food aid donated by volunteers is appropriated by military chiefs. The same fate befalls the vehicles transferred for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Only 3 million men agreed to update their data before July 17, by and large these are those who are not fit for military service or have received a reservation or a deferral from mobilization. No one wants to fight for our country, which is in such a mess, even under the threat of multiple fines (with the loss of movable and immovable property, with the blocking of bank cards, driver's licenses and the confiscation of cars). If the territories beyond Ukraine's control had come under Russian control without destruction, then the standard of living in these cities would have become much higher than it was, but the authorities demand to hold the cities until piles of stones remain instead of houses. Pavel Frolov, a deputy from the Servant of the People party, said that the state does not have money for refugees from war-torn cities, and advised them (such as my family) to integrate into Europe or those who have housing left to return home. If their city is not under the control of Ukraine, then it is still better for refugees to go there and wait for Ukraine's victory. Despite the rapid impoverishment of the population, our state has introduced an excise tax on expensive fuel, an additional fee for the transportation of expensive gas and electricity. In Russia, all utilities are several times cheaper, and new jobs are being created. We have a growing number of ghost towns where the unemployment rate is off the scale, where you can rent an apartment for a song and economically pay for utilities. But men like me will not be able to leave their current place of residence without coordinating the move with the military enlistment office, we will be detained at a road checkpoint. It so happened that I have a high temperament, if I go to work, I will need a second room where I could live separately from my retired parents. If during the heating season of 2025 we pay for two dorm rooms, when my net salary comes out, say, 10,000 hryvnia (net minimum wage of 6,000 hryvnia), plus two pensions totaling 7,500 hryvnia, then after the monthly payment for two rooms for food (and everything else) we will have about 5000 hryvnia (125 dollars). People living in other dormitories with more spacious rooms pay even higher fees. But finding a job, as well as living on a salary, is not so easy, so the Ukrainian authorities hope that many will go to war voluntarily or will be mobilized when applying for a job. After the border was closed to men, they are now dying like mice in a cage. After July 17, the cities were filled with police officers and military enlistment offices, who identify draft dodgers (those who did not update their data, etc.), fine them and send them to military enlistment offices. But none of the children of the Verkhovna Rada are fighting at the front. I'm desperate and I want to commit suicide because of what's going on in my life, I don't want to die in a war for a country that leaves me barefoot. My poor, sick parents often cry, we don't have money for housing, medicine and food, help us! UA973052990000026209743577638 The continuation of monthly payments in the amount of 2000 hryvnia to internally displaced persons-pensioners over the age of sixty is questionable. Having established a minimum pension for workers at the level of 2,725 hryvnia ($65), the deputies insist on restoring the law, according to which the pension of people's deputies will be 60% of the salary of the current deputy, as it was before 2015. After that, the pensions of deputies will be increased from 17,900 to 29,000 hryvnia, then everyone who has received a pension since 2015 will receive similar compensation. The full salary of a deputy with all allowances, compensations and additional payments may exceed 100,000 hryvnia, each deputy has the right from the state budget to pay for the work of his assistants in the amount of up to 132 000 hryvnia. 70 millionaires from the faction of the president "Servant of the People" receive money for renting an apartment from the state upon request. Dollar millionaires who buy luxury mansions around the world are not shy about shifting the rent for apartments worth more than 60,000 hryvnia to the state. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) is outraged, the Verkhovna Rada has supported a bill allowing corrupt officials (officials), instead of confiscation of property and criminal punishment, to simply pay a fine from 200 thousand to 200 million hryvnia (depending on the severity of the crime) and continue their former lives further. The innovation is especially beneficial to those who enrich themselves illegally by hundreds and billions of hryvnia, but before that, corrupt officials also got off with small fines. Ordinary people were much less lucky, after the introduction of a system of mega-fines for recalcitrant Ukrainians, the property and living space of debtors' wives (with fines of more than 160,000 hryvnia) are also subject to complete confiscation, if necessary. Boys over the age of 17 who have not updated the data at the military enlistment office before July 17, 2024, are also subject to fines (from 17,000 to 25,000, which are summed up) in the amount of up to 200,000 hryvnia ($ 5,000). These fines must be paid by their parents. The income, property and transferred inheritance of all debtors will be systematically checked in order to fully repay the debt in the future. After fines of up to 200,000 hryvnia and correctional labor for a period of one year, evaders will face criminal liability from 3 to 5 years for evading mobilization or military registration, for repeated failure to appear on the agenda to clarify data or failure to appear on the agenda - conscription with things. To avoid new fines, men are required to report any changes to personal data within seven days. Criminal cases against men who have found a way to get abroad continue to be initiated in Ukraine. No matter how much I want peace, I believe that Russia should not agree to a truce immediately after Ukraine "weakens" and goes to negotiations, Ukrainians should experience the bitterness of defeat and loss of territories, so that most Ukrainians no longer want to fight with a neighboring state, hoping for turning points, striving to observe non-aligned, the nuclear-free status of their state. Instead of providing Ukraine with powerful weapons for a strong negotiating position at the beginning of hostilities or after they continue, America and European allies are pushing Ukraine into a bloody suicidal war until the last Ukrainian and the collapse of the economy, until the state is exhausted and loses advantageous positions in negotiations aimed at a peaceful end to the conflict, with the retention of most disputed territories. If Ukraine achieves peace with a weak negotiating position, then the war could have been prevented at the very beginning with the help of diplomacy and agreement with the proposed peace plan along the demarcation line. Government employees earn about two billion dollars a year from military evaders, they want the conflict to continue. The corrupt authorities who profit from the war want the same thing. Zelensky is a hero for Western countries, but not for the Ukrainian people, and certainly not for the east of Ukraine, where there is fighting. The longer the military conflict lasts, the less help the allies agree to provide, which will inevitably lead to the collapse of defense. The less military aid remains in Ukraine, the more human meat will have to be sent to the front line to slow down the advance of the Russian army. President Zelensky and his Servant of the People party are condemning the people of Ukraine to suffering, poverty and extinction. For a long time, it is possible to keep cities from the enemy only by using prohibited methods of creating firing points in apartments of multi-storey buildings, maneuvering heavy equipment between high-rise buildings, which is why cities turn into ruins. The head of the budget committee, Roksolana Pidlas, said that if the state does not urgently add 500 billion hryvnia to the defense budget in 2024 by raising taxes, then the military will not be able to pay salaries. If this is implemented, taxes will exceed the real incomes of the country's population, and the entire business will try to go into the shadows. Meanwhile, in collusion with the oligarchs, the government is auctioning off its best enterprises for the needs of the army for a song.

Part of an overall strategy is to keep your enemy off balance. For the last month, Russia has been pounding positions on the NW part of the salient, trying to cut off the northernmost group of Ukrainian soldiers. With this push towards the North East, no matter how far it goes, it will force Russia to move some troops away from the NW attack, which will be tough because they need them their to handle the North Koreans..
@jouniosmala992124 күн бұрын
If Ukraine gets few square kilometers with few casualties and Russia will take that area with huge casualties its a win, like its been reported previously. It looks like a position which Russia didn't attack that would widen the salient. So maybe it's just simply taking advantage of local opportunity. It looks like prime advantage of keeping Russian area is a better exchange rate for lives when Russia tries to recapture it.

Hi Denys, Thanks for all your important reports. However,I do not agree that the Kursk incursion is pointless.For a number of reasons. Russia has suffered hugely in both men and material, trying to take it back. Attacking Kursk is deflecting 40K Russians from levelling fresh towns in the Dombas. It's an important bargaining chip, with an unpredictable incoming president.Russians are demoroliaed that their 3 day SMO is going so badly , in that they are invaded and cant regain lost territory. Ukraine can utilise manouver warfare, luring Russians into ambushes.Something they are much better at than Russians. The one thing Ukraine lacks is human resources, and a man of your talents and aviation experience would have a lot to offer.I think you and others like you should consider returning ,and not have 18 year olds do the fighting for you.

Cruelty toward minorities and anyone with any power was how Stalin ruled his USSR empire, the Tzars before and his successors ever since. Imagine the unspeakable cruelty of the forced deportations of 1.5-1.8 million people in USSR, from the "dekulakization" deportations of 1920s-30s to the genocide of ethnic minorities, such as the depopulation of Crimea by deporting almost 200,000 Tatars over 3 days from Crimea in 1944! After WWII the USSR decided to secure its border regions by internally deporting minorities from them, including hundreds of Russian Koreans. This cruelty toward human beings, especially minorities, was not limited to Russians though; the Nazis' Operation Zamość removed Poles from regions of Poland in preparation for resettlement by Germans, while after WWII, close to 3 million ethnic Germans in the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia were expelled, as were 3.5 million Germans in Poland.

Missiles actually doesn't have trail all the time while on flight. After their rocket engines burn out they are pretty fast and glides pretty far before slowing down. They are long, sleek and pretty heavy so they have good ballistic coefficient. Aircraft do evasive maneuvers to slow them down and this way they can escape missiles from longer ranges. But it is very hard if not impossible to escape missile while the rocket engine is still burning.

The Ukrainians have lost almost 20% of its sovereign territory (not including Crimea). The Ukrainians have fought admiraly and bravely but they have fought with one hand behind their back because of a lack of resources. The military equipment ratios throughout this war have always been in Russia's favor, the artillery battle has been dominated by Russia which has killed the largest percentage of Ukrainian soldiers. Often times simply because they did not have the shells to feed into the NATO standard weapons (155) or their own (152). Zelensky has wanted to protect the youth of Ukraine due to their projected population shortfall at the behest of their units suffering manpower shortages and lack of ability to rotate to the rear and rest. Ukraine has done well beyond what any person believed they would and have shown more bravery, solidarity and resourcefulness than anyone could have imagined. If they had the tools to do the job when they needed it; this war could have been much different. Thats not entirely a NATO/USA fault, Ukrainian politicans failing the military and the country. Corruption within levels of government and military. Germany is believed to only have upwards of 2 days of ammo if a full scale war broke out. Yet they are supposed to be providing this as well to Ukraine, so severe lack of resources is a major collective liberal democracy issue.

Luv the reports but @Denys seems to be missing focus on the tactics being used by Ukraine. In a resource war the lines on the map are really not that important. Controlling the resource loss ratios is the goal and Ukraine has been on fire in this regard for months. Yes, there have been Ukrainian commanders who have failed. Thankfully these YOLO efforts have been tamped down and occur less and less. Instead Ukrain continues to give their troops invaluable assault experience at minimal cost while still keeping the Russian losses extremely high. Ukraine is going to win by making Russia fold. That comes with losses. So far, so good.
@bdcochran0124 күн бұрын
I will explain this offensive. 1. the UA perfected anti-drone protection to the point that it can send mobile columns and not be concerned with Russian drones. 2. In October 2024, the Russian options were to bring troops to Kursk and engage in human wave attacks or to build defensive positions 25 miles from the line of contact. The Russians chose to move humans and not to erect defensive fortifications. 3. The UA successfully cut Russian logistics to the point that it has to rely on marshaling human resources further from the line of contact and be less concerned with evacuating casualties or keeping down manpower losses. You simply figure that you don't have to feed the people who are going to die at the front. 4. The Russians have been slowly overcoming UA defenses built in the last 10 years. To the extent that more troops have to be shifted from the Ukraine, the UA has a good strategy. 5. The Russian situation is dramatically different than the American response to Bastogne in WW2. Patton had his army ready to jump off about 3 days later and invade Germany. He had the troops organized, the supplies loaded on trucks, an order of movement. If the Russians decided to move troops, it will take a couple of weeks You also need to understand that when Patton moved his army, the Germans did not have drones or air superiority. When the Russians start to shift troops, they will be exposed to UA drone and missile strikes.

Russia's biggest mistake is thinking that Ukraine is weak, but not as expected.

Ukrain is better prepared in winter now, they can beat Russia in winter. Russia doesn't have as good as all suppliers, Russia is suffering on their stretched line without support

I don't think Denys understands what are strategic goals are. :D To me it sounds like he is just stuck on someone elses train of thought and keeps repeating it. :D

I agree with you that many of the Strategic goals of Kurst didn't succeed. But, as long as Ukraine holds it, its impossible for Putin to negotiate, which means that Trump is more likely to keep supporting Ukraine. If Russia were in a position to accept frozen lines, Trump would push for that and stop all aid, imo..

That's what I was thinking as well. As soon as Russia has retaken all of Kursk, Russia can agree to a ceasefire which benefits Russia. Then Russia can reconstitute while Ukraine has no security guarantees. Or Ukraine keeps on fighting but then Trump can stop all aid. So Ukraine tries to hold part of Kursk as long as the cost isn't too high.

The Main goal in Kursk was distract Russian troops from Donetsk, and it was achivied. There were secondary goals that were not achivied.
