My iphone 6 has been acting possessed for the last 6 months or so. Every... Single.... Time... I'd... Use... It...... Screen randomly stops working, sometimes the phone will unlock by itself, open the camera and snap a bunch of photos back to back and then shut down. If I had text open, it would randomly start texting a bunch of things like "fdsaklj asdjk 84,a 8arl dsa as" and then send the text.. ALL WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE PHONE.... Weird stuff randomly happening, but I refused to upgrade. I will never buy another iphone again. EVER.... I found this video as a last ditch effort before tossing this phone and going with an android, but this video worked. It's been 24 hours and my phone hasn't acted up once. THANK YOU

I highly recommend to anyone doing this that you draw a map of the internal layout of your phone and draw little circles where you take a screw out, placing that screw on the map. It's vital that you replace the SAME screw where you took it from as they are different sizes.

Hey man just wanted to thank you for this fix! I replaced my screen and still had the problem. figured it was touch disease but didn't want to pay for my phone to be fixed by apple. Took me about an hour to insert the tape and BINGO! it works as good as new. don't listen to the "haters", a wise man once said if it's stupid and it works... it ain't stupid. Thanks again.

We don't hate. We're trying to prevent people from making things worse. Read the comments and you'll see many people in worse shape and with new problems. Most of the people who warn against this idea are members of a trained micro soldering community. Non of us make any money commenting here. These ICs are not simply lose. They have weak bonds from corrosion. Squeezing these corroded points back together is like putting a spacer at the back of a flashlight that has leaking batteries. The pressure might make the corroded connection work again, but it that really what you want to do?

My aunt’s touch screen failed the other day and she didn’t have a backup saved. This method worked and I was able to get the screen working to take a backup! The only problem I had was removing the standoff screws since I didn’t have the right screwdriver, however I was able to finagle it with a flathead.

Exactly. This isn't that hard and yes, it is a fix. As good a fix as anything else out there. Even if it just holds me out long enough until my contract is out and I can get a new phone. Or better yet, wait for the iphone 8.

I posted a few weeks ago that after I purchased the tools from Frys (you'll have to buy the ones specifically for Apple - about $15) I had a problem in doing this because one of the microscopic screws was already stripped at the factory. I couldn't drill it out (worried about damage to the sensitive mechanisms) and finally gave up. But then the Apple store told me that it would cost $150 to repair, or I could buy a new phone (with the same flaw) - and blamed it on ME! So I then reread the posts here and saw one of the posters only took the back off (about 0:48 into the video), then, put the tape bundle *on top* of where the touch censors as opposed to going through the complete dismantle, and he swore it worked. So I did the same, wrapping the tape around a couple of more times for good measure. It works GREAT! No problems...THANK YOU RODY!!

Already replaced the phone and it was just sitting around. Took it to a repair shop to ask about fixing it for one of my kids. They told me about the touch disease then. (An entire year after the issue and I was never contacted as being a 6plus owner). The repair shop quoted “at least $140 and the phone isn’t even worth that much”. So daughter was willing to twist it to get it to work, but that seemed stupid. Just paid $11 for a precision toolkit and followed the steps and it’s working with no bending! Good enough for me! Thank you!

I folded mine 9 times. I made it full width then cut it to precisely fit just on the two chips and not overhanging onto the board. Works perfectly the first time!! Take your time and do it right the first time. Take pictures and or keep your screws separated so you get the right screws in the right places!!! I believe there are 7 different kind of screws. Length and width vary. Other than that very good idea! I believe it's a better fix that heat gun soldering it back as it will keep the constant pressure on the chip so the problem does not come back!! Your the man! Thank you.

From an I.T. professional I would like to say this is a good tip for users whom are either saving up for IC repair or plan to upgrade to a new phone. The iPhone touch disease is something Apple should have fixed before they shipped the phones... But..... Electronic issues keep us professionals in business despite who is at blame (manufacture or customer).

Man nice work. I did this repair back in Nov to my 6+ and it worked perfectly the first time. Haven't had a problem since. Don't mind all these tech shops that are hating on you. Not everyone has the $$$ to pay for these things. And they are losing money to the somewhat tech swave viewers who can preform this procedure following your instructions. Not meant for all. But keep up the good work man

I took a chance and removed the motherboard and followed your instructions, when I put everything back together I was getting grey lines and squares on the screen. I assessed what could be wrong which something must have no been reconnected properly, I re-did the process disassembled everything and to my surprise the apple logo popped up. I was back in business. This trick works. It saved me a lot of money.

I have yet to try this repair but for those who don't understand the SCIENCE behind this. The tape forces the chip down onto the motherboard when its screwed into the housing of the phone. Basically your chip has become ever so slightly disconnected from the phone and this fix prevents u from removing the whole chip and replacing the solder. I'm going to try it out as ive tried a billion new touch screens and none of them work. Also the phone in question I plugged in a new touch screen and it worked for about 3 mins then stopped home and power worked for a min and a half eventually stopped working and hasn't worked since. UPDATE: Worked like charm! Nice thank you for your fix. I can micro solder I just really hate it!

Thank you. This worked great for me. I have been suffering with the condition for a couple years now and it got really bad recently. I took it to the Apple store since they have a touch disease program but was told my phone was too old Last ditch effort, I follow these instructions and after one false start (cables needed to be reseated) it’s working like a champ! Better than having a glitchy phone and way cheaper than a repair.

Just completed this work-around on my iPhone 6+, been working perfectly since. Thanks for the video Rody. Will update later if it begins experiencing issues, however I don't have any reason to believe that will occur. For anyone thinking about doing this, do it (order the $12 kit on amazon so you've got the right tools). The hardest part was putting it back together, which just took a bit of time. Also - be sure not to mix up which screws go where, for this I laid everything out on a sheet of graph paper according to its relative position.

Update 12/15/16: After hard reseting my phone (hold power and home till it reboots), and taking the screen off and tightening one of the screws behind the white mark on my screen, most of my issues have gone away now. Phone is definitely much more stable now. I can get it to freeze still by pressing firmly on the location where the IC chips are, but a quick power button press and login clears the issue quickly. I still have a smaller white mark on the screen, have ordered a better screwdriver to tighten the screws another turn and see if it goes away. YMMV, I probably would do it all over again, given I just don't want to spend either the $150 to get Apple to fix it (and problem come back again), or buy another iphone 7. I think I would take HateTheG's suggestion and use a thick piece of rubber band. Thanks for posting this! Thanks much for this video, unfortunately I followed all the steps very carefully, made sure I had a thick enough tape, put'r all back together...and same problem. It's intermittent, but when it happens, have to hit power button and lock it, and re-open it. I also have a white blotch on my screen now, about 5 mm square. Not major enough to complain about, but I sure would not try this procedure again, took over an hour to very, very carefully track every little screw. So thanks again, but it did not fix my issue!

I was able to do this fix on my phone with no problem with the tools that I had. However, a recommendation is for the tape, don't make it too thick because when you put everything back together, the screen will not be flushed. Also, the result on my iPhone 6 Plus is not fixed all the way, the touch on the screen comes and goes ( but not as bad after doing the changes with this video). Overall, good video. Thanks.

Just spent the last few hours doing this - and seems to have resolved the non-responding touch screen on my iPhone 6 - for now ;)

Gabriel Serban Thanks for reminding to reply, the fix worked for about 3 hours and stopped responding again. It is easier to get responding with less bending now but I think I need to insert more electrical tape to apply more pressure.

I went to the Apple Store today and asked about the Touch Disease, and they said it was caused by "flex cable" being bent. I said what about the fact it's the Touch IC failure and they said it is because they phone bends. They said they replace the phone with one that has never been bent at the price of a display replacement (Meaning it will have the issue again). Its sad that they are not even fixing the issue correctly.

I tried the tape trick last night and the phone is worse now. It harly reponds at all and will randomly open stuff with out me touching it. Does anyone have a follow along tear down and installation of all the screws and cables after being taken apart

Rody Davis you're welcome to mail it to me . I will replace the touch IC chips and guarantee a working phone, as long as you have not damaged anything else with this attempt.

Great job bro, just did it and I am back up and running, the size of the tape is truly the magic for this fix. Good Job again.

Thanks Rody for the tutorial. My iphone 6+ has this issue, and I had to bend it to work. I've just finished this fix step by step. Everything works by far and no screws were left after assembly, so it's a small success for me ;) I think you should note in your tutorial that it's important to mark/remember all the screws, because they have different lengths. Cheers!

I don't know the first thing about soldering, but I do know that this fix makes sense as pressure applied to that IC chip area gets rid of the problem. It took me 2 hours to take everything apart and pay attention to all the screw locations and mark accordingly, but in the end after putting everything back together (and it didn't power up at first I had to reseat some of the connections again), everything powered up without problems and the grey bar is gone and so is the touch disease issue. I did fold that electrical tape 8 times and then pressed down on that whole area. For those who complain that this is not a true solution, I say it doesn't matter - many people would take a temporary fix over a non-working phone. Further, as I mentioned, not everyone wants to pay Apple or whoever $150 (or higher in Canada) to fix something which is an inherent engineering and manufacturing problem. Further, I do know and have confirmed with Apple store at my local mall, that Apple will just swap it out for a refurbished unit, with only a short warranty. It is very likely you will get another 6S Plus with the same problem eventually and by then you will be encouraged to just upgrade the phone. There are those of us who do not want a 7, 8 or higher (I like plugging in headphones on my 6S Plus, but moreover, there are many of us who would be happy with a short-term fix that may last long term. Again, it beats having a 100% non-working phone. I don't know how to solder and not interested in paying someone else to do something similar or having Apple roll the dice and give me another one which has zero guarantee of not having this problem. I for one am glad for this video and thank Rody for posting it.

Hi there, I have followed your guide step by step. My phone is still as it was before i added the tape in. Is there by any chance another reason why my phone screen does not register touch or swipe? I've tried your method also i had brought a completely new screen. Im looking for any other suggestions to which the problem could be. I would get it repaired professionally which would cost a fortune but only as my last resort. Thanks

This works. Not sure for how long but it does. Just need a little bit patience. I am wondering if I send my iPhone to get screen replaced as suggested by the Apple tech, how can they fix this issue without swapping out a new logic board. Anyhow, many thanks for the video. It saved my time, money and potential frustration from the “repaired” iPhone.

I know that this is a *very* bad fix, but fixing iPhones for a living myself, I would never do this for a customer, but since it's for my personal phone, I figured why not give it a try, and at my surprise, it does work.

Although this may seem to work for some, it will defiantly not fix the issue in the long run and will make the issue work and possibly harder to repair in the future. Having an experienced tech work on it by replacing or re balling the touch IC and damaged pads will fix it correctly and for the long term.

Since the screen just would not swipe! I was about to throw my iphone out the window and then found your video and did exactly as instructed and just like that my iphone is now swiping without a problem! You are a genius and just thank you for posting this video and sharing it with the world!

Hi! The solution proposed worked as a charm. I managed to map the screws not to miss anything while putting it back but know I have another problem. After assembling it I saw that the phone is really heating up in that area and sometimes even shutting off. Also the front camera is not working but it is connected properly. Any suggestions to what i might've done ? Any other users experience this issue ? Thank you!

It actually works but it seems to only be temporary. The first time I tried it didn't but the second time it works. but from time to time its going again so, I remove the screen and put some pressure to the board and it works

Thanks for a Great fix-video! My 6 Plus is almost working now after putting in the tape. It still stops occasionally, but I can live with it until i get a new phone. BUT, my Wi-Fi signal is weak after the fix 😕, Do you think its just that I got too close to the antenna and broke it during the fix, or do you have any other idea, hopefully a solution? Thanks again 🙂.
