Add some floating plants or add some stems that use up nutrients faster. Maybe a bristle nose will work idk I’ve never had puffers. Very nice tank and honest video!!

l agree with you that the undergravel filter and no soil are stunting your plants in the pea puffer tank. Your Vallisneria grows so well in all the other tanks.

Super fun tour. And insightful as usual. I'm surprised you've never seen the Pea Puffers eat snails? I found they go right to them when introduced. Anyway, i love your channel and fish room know-how!

@@LushSaltyAquariums nope, they ignore them and slowly they are replaced by empty shells. Love that big tank of yours!

So you wouldn't recommend pea puffers? I like the look of them.
@droeksonfishkeeping
@droeksonfishkeeping Ай бұрын
No, it is not that I would not recommend them. They are great fish. Just know that you are going to do a bit more maintenance. Also, keep them on their own, not in community tanks. Sometimes it works out but I do not like to work on exceptions.

Hi Droeks. What is your opinion on liquid carbon? Aquasoils vs Dirted Substrates? Your opinion on root tabs and how to expand the lifetime of your planted tank (nutrient deficiency)? How long should you run your light, and how do you balance your planted tank? What plants work well together, and what plants to avoid? I am currently planning a large planted aquarium with a large community of fish and I would like to start it out the right way. I have experimented with a smaller planted tank, but would like to know from someone like yourself with many years of experience. The do's and dont's. Greetings from Hartbeespoort

Droeks, I've got some advice for your pea puffer tank. Although take it with a grain of salt as I haven't kept those fish personally. Ista sells a disposable CO2 kit which is a great way to add a low level of Carbon Dioxide to tanks for cheap. When the cans run out you can switch to a yeast & sugar CO2 generator (check MJ Aquascaping's video for details). Adding a MACROnutrient fertilizer should help as plants can't grow without any nutrients and I doubt that they're getting enough from the bloodworms alone. Try turning down the aeration on the sponge filter as much as is practical to minimize CO2 loss from gas exchange. And lastly some bulletproof fast growing stem plants could help to suck up any excess nutrients and out-compete the algae. My tank is running on pretty much this method with an under gravel filter to good results. Hope this helps!

@@craigmohr Tried the fast growing stem plants, just got overwhelmed by the algae. Did do the macro fertilizer way at the beginning, also did not do the trick. I'll go look at that co2 kit, maybe that could work...

Thanks for the new tour. That terrarium is looking 💚Beautiful💚 For ideas for new videos, it would be interesting to get information on fish lifespans. You mentioned how old some of your fish are, and I think it would be helpful information to know how long different species live, and how tank parameters affect that(temperature, water volume, etc) A lot of channels are conscientious about sharing information on how large fish get, but there is less information about how long they live. That would be helpful in making decisions with regard to species selection considering lifetime expectations. You could also factor in the effect of breeding behaviors in maintaining fish colonies. It seems like it would make a series of several interesting and informative videos. Thanks for your consistent output🙏

Try adding an adult SAE or Flying Fox to the Pea puffer tank. Simply as a temporary tool.

Why not try some of the Anubias on the wood?

I do like your tanks. I have some Java Fern, but I'm not a great fan. It seems to be at the center of every algae outbreak I have had to deal with. From blue-green algae, brown algae, and green string algae, they seem to break out with it first. Since the Annubias seems to like this tank, how about a different variety attached to that wood? There are plenty of Annubias types. Cheers!

Nice aquariums. They are to overstocked in my opinion. How about some moss for that last aquarium attached to the wood? I use to hate java fern but I have it in my aquarium and it's in beautiful condition. I don't get baby java ferns growing out of the leaves because my java fern is happy.
