Just as @1striperon suggested, I think "Bailey" would be a beautiful name for Lady's new filly!!!! She sure is a pretty little girl. Looks a lot like Bree did. They will definitely look like sisters a little later on. Lady seems even more protective this time. She is a fantastic mother! What Jim calls baleage are the round bales wrapped green and uncured, which here in Australia we call silage. Cattle feed, a black sloppy mess. Bailey is a boy's name. Her name must be one syllable and not sound anything like "Bree" or neither will know which of his matched pair he is addressing.

I always found that a mare who has difficulty passing an afterbirth is a whole lot touchier and flightier to handle. Once the hormones settle, they get easier to handle. Glad Lady foaled before you left! Hope you have a great time.

Jim and Brenda , I'm so pleased that everything worked out with Lady clearing her afterbirth. The new filly looks healthy and she looks like she's nursing well already. So many names of royalty among the horses there, I thought immediately of Countess and Duchess as names for a filly. June or Juno are also fitting names for a filly born in this month. I had already typed how refreshing it was to see people manage to control themselves from mauling a foal and then you just had to put your hands all over it. People just can’t leave baby animals alone. They have to bond to mom, not to humans. It will not become an untrainable beast just because you left it to be a horse for a few weeks. Friesan Horses with Yvonne in The Netherlands just named her new filly "Belle Uniek" after her famous biological horse momma = Queen Uniek.
