@@xd-qi6ry Nice. If you do not know how to type properly with qwerty, then learning Dvorak will probably be easier because you don't have to unlearn qwerty. BTW this was written with Colemak, lol.

This comment was written with Colemak mod-DH (formerly DHm). I switched to this layout a month ago, and I'm currently hitting around 60WPM on typeracer. Still not faster than qwerty for me, but the experience has been pretty satisfying because of the ergonomic design. I feel like this layout would be great for international languages as well :) I also type in Japanese, and it fits the Japanese input method quite well.

I have been using Dvorak for probably over a decade now, 50-60 WPM with high accuracy (98-100%). Just recently tried to get back into Colemak, which I originally tried to learn alongside Dvorak over a decade ago, but gave up for obvious reasons (it was just too mentally straining--I needed to focus on one, plus I got what I wanted... the "feel" of the layout for comparison to Dvorak). I was probably at about 12-18 WPM when I abandoned it, and after a couple days typing here and there I'm at 17-20 WPM. Certainly didn't take anywhere near as long to get up to speed as it did originally. I have a handful of problem keys--most are letters that I instinctively go for the Dvorak key, but ironically QWERTY's "S" is one of the big ones since it is so close, just one off. I didn't think I had any QWERTY left in me, but apparently it's hardwired and although I haven't used it in forever, it still screws with my Colemak!

learning colemak (mod dhm). So far so good! I'm using keybr and it's pretty good, it teaches you the letters in order of their frequency (in English). Written with Colemak, of course.

@@michalski9141 They only have the keyboard visuals for standard colemak, but that doesn't particularly detract from the incremental memorization part of the tool.

This is really interesting - I taught myself touch typing from books (remember those fold-over, standee typing books from the 80's?) and by the early 90's could do 120 + wpm; but I lived in front of my typewriter haha - in the late 1990's I brought a temp agency to a standstill when I cranked out 140 wpm at 98% accuracy! - when the old reliable temp clerical jobs started drying up after the 90's, using the computer at home degraded my technique - I've been working on it again but my technique is very idiosyncratic, I drift in/out of touch typing and frequently devolve into using 2 fingers - on those tests I'm stuck in the 80 wpm range, but when I'm actually writing for long stretches and it starts to flow, I frequently start tearing it up above 120 wpm again. I wish I could have more consistency... as for learning a new fingering position, I'm not sure, but since I've lost the muscle memory of what I used to know, it might be easier than if that stuff was still fresh in my mind. PS: Looks like you're using the Papyrus icon theme - that's my favorite!

If you want go even further get a keyboard like the ErgoDox. But use your thumbs for layer modifiers, not for Enter or Backspace Edit: should watch a video to the end before write comments

I got to around 80ish on qwerty and about 90 on colemak i decided to to learn graphite as my third keyboard layout which is going alright so far although i forgot how difficult learning another can be. Im hoping i can maintain all three but i might end up forgetting qwerty since colemak is available on pretty much everything now

Being 61 years old, you will probably call me crazy, but I started with Colemak 3 days ago. Was at 20-25 wpm on day 2. My qwertz speed was about 50-60 wpm. Today I changed to Colemak DHm even though I don't really like the lower row of keys. But I have an Ergodox so thought it might be a better fit. For my "normal" German keyboard I made a layout that only changes the letter keys - having to re-learn all special characters would have been too much. Luckily it's easy on a Mac using Ukelele. Only had to shift ö and ä one step to the right.

Does anyone else use the Norman layout? It came out right after Workman and Asset, I found it to have a faster learning curve/ ease to switch between qwerty, while still maintaining the base 8 shortcuts and a near identical workman centre column layout.

Norman deserves more love for sure! 3rd column d-e-c and i-o shifted left (relative to Colemak) make it more comfortable for me.

I just want to tell you, that you can break 150 wpm on any layout that isn't completely fucked ("in the top thirty best typists" are two people who use colemak and one guy that uses dvorak). It doesn't have to do with age or genetics. You just have to put in the time. There is no genetic gift that lets you do that. Go through the whole typing.com course and always use the correct fingers for every key. For example use your middle finger for the c key and so on. You just have to put in the time and focus on accuracy. The speed will come naturally.

Im putting in the time. I do think that there is a gift for it and as you get older you do tend to slow down not have a higher reaction time as younger kids. I am creeping up to 120 on some tests

I have no clue how people can type 100+ WPM. It's so hard for me to not correct my own typing and not really think about what I'm typing. I do a lot of transposition, too. I love your DWM setup! The icons in the desktop spaces are great! Did you do a custom build or did you change it in a post-install config file? My DWM is pretty plain outside of a status bar because when I try to build, install myself, it errors out, so I'm stuck with the apt install method.

I tweaked it a bit after the initial install. I also correct my self when i type too. The key is not to correct yourself that often and do a non-stop test you can be much higher wpm. 100+ is slower than you may think. What i mean is I don't feel that when I type that my fingers move that fast. Thank you for watching the video. :)

If you practice regularly on sites like monkeytype or 10fastfingers I'm sure you will be able to beat 100wpm. Or use a site like keybr.com to work on your technique. Get your accuracy up first, before working on speed. Most people have some bad habits that hold them back.
