Go with a Hejnar foot instead... they use a bolt to attach the foot to the lens and so far the steel QD cutouts have held up well witg my magpul QD. They are also less expensive than Kirk...and i believe superior ( amd made in USA)

Thank you for posting this. I am just about to switch to a QD system Now I need to figure out which plate to get. Maybe I can find an l-bracket that has one on each side of...

I would definitely never trust just one attachment point after having my camera fall to the ground. Glad you found it useful.

@@robwasnj looks like ProMediaGear has a secondary security connector with quick release. Looks promising with their L-bracket. Again thanks for publishing this!

This is scary. I just bought a QD kit for my camera and it would be very bad if it failed. I guess I have to check it every now and then to see if it starts to wobble or move in new ways.

I never use one without a safety leash now, kind of defeats the convenience though. My camera dropped on some moss, could not have been a luckier place for it to fail.

I use a Magpul sling with QD releases on my cameras. Not really trusting a single point attachment I simply added a second QD connector to the system with a short lead made from paracord. Both my lens foot and my L Bracket have QD holes (RRS)

@@SunDevilPilotWow, thanks for the idea! I have a Kirk arca plate I believe has a QD socket and while I'd never trust one (especially after it failed) having two but supporting from the lens makes a lot of sense. Great comment!

Surprising Kirk doesn’t reply on here. Hmm

I just bought this Kirk Replacement Foot along with Kirk QD for FE-200-600G and used once. But after seeing your video, I am not sure what I'm going to do with them. How long have you used yours til this failure incident occurred ?

About a year and a half, I did do a lot of hiking with it. Kirk replaced the insert and it seems to work properly again but I'll never trust one point of attachment again, I always have a safety leash when carrying this way. I was lucky, my A1 along with the lend fell right on the softest moss imaginable, anywhere else would have done some serious damage to my camera and/or lens.
