Look into pro bono (for free) attorneys contact your county bar association. Attorneys usually take one pro bono case a year. Also contact your county clerk either in person or online and see if they have a form to petition the court for waiver of court costs and fees due to economic hardship. Just a few suggestions. I’ve worked for family law firms for years I’m not an attorney but these are some of the things that I’ve seen women do in your position. Also look into parenting apps for communication with the other parent.

I’m the now adult child of a wonderful father and a narcissistic mother who tried to use the court system to control the narrative. Your kids will absolutely see what you’ve had to go through and appreciate that you did it for them so much as they age. I ended up growing up in near poverty due to the jobs available for my dad to still have time with us and paying off lawyer bills but I wouldn’t change a thing. We are a solid family unit because of what we all went through together, to the point that my brother happily took a job working with our dad and is now our dad’s boss.

I asked my kid sister if anyone told her to not talk to me unless it was necessary for the first hour or so I’m awake and she said no, she figured it out on her own when she was 4 and I was 17. They’ll see how hard you’re trying and as long as you communicate with them they’ll get it, I know we did. My dad had to deal with 2 why kids at once and then has another kid in his next relationship and got another why kid. He answered everything.

When I got a restraining order against a stalker (ex) it was made known that this is the most abused piece of civil suits out there which is why there is so much paperwork and due process. It’ll be worth the fight as you know once it goes through.

I have been where you are. Fight for full custody and child support. He has to pay support whether he has visitation or not. I have full custody of my boys. My boys don’t go for visitation anymore, they are 12 and 15. My ex doesn’t even care to try to get them for visitation anymore.

I agree with you on having a female lawyer, in my experience the male lawyers just don’t get DV or it feels like they support the narc instead. Rooting for you hon, you will get through this and come out of it stronger. Sending love and strength 🧡

I feel for you. I had gone through something similar with an ex in the past, narcissists wear you out by rapid firing one drama after the next at you to not give you a break and messing with your emotions until your too tired to think clearly, after that they try to convince any authority they can that you are incompetent because your stressed all the time, which then they use that to convince judges they are the better parent because they are not a stressed out (you need emotions to be emotionally stressed out, so obviously they're not). However once you get to court with these types, they will pull out the DARVO plan (DARVO=deny, attack, reverse victim and offender). They will go in front of a judge and pull the saddest face, complete with tears and acting worthy of Hollywood to get what they want. What that does is that the real victim will be in shock and angry at what to them is an obvious and obnoxious lie, which unfortunately to the judge looks like the narcissist is the real victim and the actual real victim is the unreasonable one. It's a stupid game to them that I was warned about and sure enough, that is what this ex did. once this jerk was out of court and out of site of the court employees he smiled at me, laughed, and hopped in his truck and left. He hadn't even won anything that day, he had just gotten the judges sympathy for enough things that he knew that game would work, and it did for a while. If or when you ever get to a court hearing, if he pulls the same garbage mine did, it's best to be as unemotional and businesslike as possible to throw off his plans. I was glad I was warned a head of time. Good luck

They are very charming and manipulative. They will not give up rights because they know thats the only control they have left. You need to keep very detailed notes on everything he does and says to you and the kids. Get a day planner and document on the date the times and actions of him. This will help you build a case. There are places out there that will help you with legal stuff. Stay safe.

This is so true, I know that’s why my ex wouldn’t ever do it. So on point. Also I need to get more detailed with my documenting. I have some things, I even send him with groceries because they always say he won’t make them food, and I want them to have things they can grab if that’s the case. If you do not mind me asking how long were you married before you divorced your ex. so whom does your 17 year old live with. Are all your kids from your ex? If so how does your 17 year old see all this? I mean is you have to appear in court will he have to be there to speak too. I would imagine they would want to hear from your girls as to how they feel when they go over to their dads.
