UPDATE: Hey guys. I had issues with this cheap Amazon part and ended up sending it back. I ordered an OEM Bosch part from eBay for just a little more. Watch my channel for an update video in the next week or so.
My 2013 Ford Focus is overheating - today I'm gonna fix that by replacing the fan control module. Let's get started!!

Thank you for your video. That was exactly what was wrong with my 2014 Focus. I went to a junkyard and pulled a module off of a wrecked Focus. They charged me $14 for it and it worked! So thank you again by posting this video.

Merci beaucoup.

Hello, my colling fan sometimes works and somtimes doesnt. Even when I turn on the AC it takes the fan a lot of time to start. how can I determine weather the problem is the relay or the module? Focus 2012. Thanks
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 Жыл бұрын
You will need to take a voltage measurement on the side of the module where the fan connects. Turn on the AC and check for 12 volts, if the voltage is there but the fan is not running then the fan is the problem.

Hello. I have a focus 2012 , and a couple of weeks ago I started to see that my fans are turned on almost all the time the car is powered on , and after I powered off my card fans still working for a couple of minutes ( for example 3 minutes and then are turned off) However if I open a door fans started to work again even if the car still turned off. Any suggestion ? Thank you
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 Жыл бұрын
If the temperature in your area has increased lately that could be why the fans are running all the time. Also, your fans will stay on all the time if you are running your air conditioning. The first thing I would do is keep an eye on your temperature gauge to make sure it’s not overheating. Also, check your coolant level, if it’s low you’ll need to add some. These cars will blow a head gasket pretty quickly if they overheat.

I have a similar issue of fan not coming it as it should- tested relay and it's okay, but found that no power is being sent to the relay itself when bridging that connection. Talking at the engine the fan randomly started working again, seems to work and break a few times each drive. Surely it's not the control module causing this one?
@TakenYoBacon
@TakenYoBacon Жыл бұрын
Should note that when the fan is dead, using A/C will always spin it back up, but it still won't function properly otherwise until it decides to behave normally again
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 Жыл бұрын
There’s a lot of things that might cause that, but I would start by checking the temperature sensor wiring.
@TakenYoBacon

@@ProjectDIY2 Turns out it was the Fan Control dying off causing all this! Now the challenge is where to get one, that isn't only available with the whole fan assembly. Any recommendations?

Ok, hope you get this. My 2012 Focus had an issue 6 months ago, I saw your video an changed the module. It wouldn't work with AC on. Now it comes on with AC but doesn't seem to work any other time, and last night I got to work and coolant bubbled into the overflow tank and out the drain hole, kinda indicating overheating? It was only like 60 degrees. Any thoughts?
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 8 ай бұрын
So the ECU is turning the fan on and off ok so I would suspect the coolant temperature sensor. Beware though, bubbling from the overflow tank can also be a symptom of a blown head gasket too. Check the coolant in your overflow bottle and make sure it doesn’t look milky and oily. Also open your oil cap and make sure it doesn’t look milky. These cars are notorious for blown head gaskets
@bigjohnson7415
@bigjohnson7415 8 ай бұрын
@@ProjectDIY2 No "Milkshake" in the oil, or change in oil level. The fan comes on with the AC, which isn't controlled by the PCM, but what I'm not sure of is IF the PCM is turning it on at all. I connected my little Foxwell scanner in and selected realtime data to watch the coolant temp, drive it down the road a few miles, thru Wendy's drive thru, then home, and the highest I saw was 92C. The thermostat I put in was a 180 degrees F, so like 82C, but it's like 15 degrees cooler today than it was yesterday. I'm just suspicious that the PCM isn't turning the fan on allowing it to overheat. Or the new thermostat is fooked up. Thank you for responding! 👍
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 8 ай бұрын
Hmmm 92C is 197F (sorry I have to convert 😂) that may not be hot enough to turn the fan on. If it goes above 205F then I’d be worried. Another issue that can cause the bubbling in the overflow is a bad radiator cap.
@bigjohnson7415
@bigjohnson7415 8 ай бұрын
@@ProjectDIY2 It very well could be something as simple as the cap. When I had the first leak of the heater hose, I cranked the cap down all the way. Then when the flange seal blew out, I read you weren't supposed to do that, it'd build up too much pressure. So I've been only turning it like 2 turns on. Now wonder if it doesn't build Enough pressure to keep the boiling at bay.

@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 2 жыл бұрын
Well sort of. It would really only overheat when it was extremely hot out and when the AC was on and only when it was setting idling, like at a stop light. BTW, don't buy the cheap Amazon part like I did, it has issues. Watch my channel for another video on this, I ended up getting an OEM Bosch module for it.

My 2015 focus doesn't recognize the new fan module, it doesn't work and the module is new, even I had to buy a brand new fan with the module, because I couldn't find only the module, do you have any idea on what's going on with this?
@ProjectDIY2
@ProjectDIY2 11 ай бұрын
You need to get a wiring diagram and check to see if you have 12volts going to the fan module. 2 other things that can cause that is a bad coolant temp sensor or a blown fuse.
@TheHipo19
@TheHipo19 11 ай бұрын
@@ProjectDIY2 I haven't checked the 12 volts still, I think I'll try with that... All sensors and fuse are working correctly... So now the only option I'll check is the voltage!
