UPDATE! Shadow Systems CR920X Issues and Fixes

I just sent my SS 920X back to SS for the third time. Same issues were repeated slide locks every other round. Repeated failure to feed rounds into the barrel resulting in premature slide lock. Also had multiple failures to eject spent round. Sometimes I’d get a failure to feed and eject at the same time. I did notice that when premature slide lock occurred, the round that did not feed had a slight leaning to the left, just as Justin Opinion found in his video of the gun. I only used new factory ammo of different brands and still had multiple premature slide locks. The first time I sent it back to SS, they replaced the barrel which did not fix my issues. The second time I sent it back, SS replaced the barrel and slide. After firing two hundred rounds of new factory ammo, the pressure slide locks, failures to feed and eject continued, but now I got multiple failures to fire due to light primer strikes. It would take 2 or 3 strikes before the round would fire. I also noticed that after each premature slide lock/failure to feeds, I would disassemble the gun and observed the recoil spring had come off the barrel seating notch and was off center. I would then reposition the recoil spring into the barrel notch properly center, reassemble the gun, shoot, after a couple rounds I’d get premature slide lock, disassemble the gun again and notice the recoil spring out of position and leaning far to the right of the slide. This happened repeatedly where the recoil spring came off the barrel notch and out of position after firing. I sent numerous photos to SS showing the recoil spring out of position. My FFL has just returned the gun to SS for the third time and I have asked for a refund, new gun or a credit towards the purchase of a new SS pistol, as I have lost all confidence in the SS 920X to defend my life. Hope my experiences help solve these serious issues.

Wow. Three times! I’ve noticed that my recoil spring / guide rod also fell out of alignment when I disassembled it. Wondering if that might be a reason. Thanks for watching and the comments.

Same thing happened to me. 1st time barrel was changed. 2nd time the slide lock lever. Now its going back a third time. Locks up every other round. Was yours fixed and what was it?? If i hold down the slide lock lever it runs fine. Spring seems weak

My front sight literally just fell off and now missing on my CR920x. Also having feeding issues, extraction, what is going on with this gun???!! I WANT A REFUND!!! Gun is just over 2 wks old. BUYER BEWARE. Should have bought a Glock

I purchased the CR920X on July 4th. First 200 rounds were flawless and I loved everything about it. The next 100 were horrific. Premature slide lock between 1 and 10 times per magazine. SS sent me a replacement slide lock lever and this did not fix the issue. I sent the gun in and they sent it back after replacing the slide lock lever and trigger assembly. They said they fired 50 rounds through it flawlessly. I got premature slide lock on the first and third round of the first magazine after it was "fixed". I tried one handed, both hands, other people shooting it and the issue was the same. I gave up and traded it in for a G43x. I really wanted to love the gun but, as nice as SS customer service was, they did not fix the issue. The only issue I had with the gun was premature slide lock. Not sure if this is a proprietary mag issue or what. But SS did not fix the issue and I just gave up.

Yes, you cant beat a glock. I am thinking about doing the same. Others have comments on the same problem and have sent them into SS. They seem happy. I just got my CR920X back from SS. I ran 350 rounds though it with zero issues. I had two jams after the 350 mark. could have been me, it was hot and my hands were sweaty. also the barrel and slider were very hot. I ran it like a torture test. Cutting a videos of that right now. should be out in a week. I am cautiously optimistic.

@@therightgun I’m worried I gave up too quickly but I’ve now gotten to the point where my 43x has everything the CR920X had and it just runs like a champion. Best of luck with your CR920X. I hope it continues to run like my first 200 rounds through it!

Was having a failure to feed rate at about 30%. Tried both 115 grain and 124 grain bullets with brass. Customer service was great - sent in the weapon and had a barrel replaced and slide lock replaced. Had the gun at the range last night put 50 rounds through it with no issues two hand grip. Will verify over the next weeks

I’m having the same exact experience you are having with the slide locking when there are still rounds in the magazine. Also past the break in period is when the issues started for me. I’m not happy paying for a pistol that cost over $900 and having to deal with this. I’m not even going to call customer service. I’m just going to trade it in for something that’s more reliable. I really wanted to like my CR920. Thanks for the video.

I have an XR920P. One of the first off the assembly lines in March. Had some initial issues with the comp. Sent it back to Shadow and they repaired it and made some changes to the assembly line. I sent it back by USPS. No problems! I did not go to my FFL. I am not scared to ship without a FFl after Shadow said it was fine and sent a return label. I have since shot over 7000 rounds in nightly COF's. Pushing it to extremes, from Bill Drills to CQE's shooting on the move, steel, etc.....Runs perfectly! I only use Speer Lawman TMJ 124's to cut down on lead exposure. Now I have the new CR920XP. As like the XR I had initial stove pipe issues mostly due to the break in period but also the Speer are underpowered a bit.Didn't have any issues during this time with 147gr or EDC HST. After 150 rounds, back home, cleaned it and couple days later another 150 rounds. Zero problems with the 124's. Now over 500 rounds and zero issues. Very happy with the CR920XP, which is essentially the same as the X but with the comp. Just came out 10 days ago. Shadow is know for tight tolerances with new guns. If you can't accept that and deal with the break in period buy something else. For me, it is light years ahead of stock Glocks. My XR blows away my G45 with Ramjet. It only needed an optic unlike Glock that is plain vanilla. This all being said it is quite possible you just have a defective one and for whatever reason may need a replacement, assuming the user and ammo is ruled out causing the issues. The CR(x) is new. Issues can happen in any new design. I accept that when buying a new product. In my experience thus far, Shadow Systems has excellent customer service. Hope your issues get resolved to your satisfaction.

@@therightgun Good to hear. As an update to my CR920XP I started getting a couple of premature slide locks. This never happens on my XR920P. I noticed how my thumb rest between the two guns and it’s definitely very close on the CR versus the XR. Taking both apart the slide lock lever is much looser on the CR than the XR. Contacted shadow and they asked me to send it in. Did so using their return FedEx next day label. It was there for two days and they already sent it back. Should have it first of the week and see how it goes. I know of others who had this problem, sent it back to shadow and it was fixed so I’m hoping the same for you and I. Looking forward to your video and my results next week.

CR920 mag release-anybody have a problem because the release is almost impossible t push to release the mag. I simply can’t get a mag to release unless I use my thumb and forefinger on my strong hand. It’s both mags , full or empty. Sent back to SS and they found nothing to report. I don’t think you should have to use some bizarre hand jive to do a simple mag change Dave

Sorry to hear that, the mag release was the only reliable function on my CR920X, on and the Jamming feature. It jammed reliably.

I just tested my cr920xp and had failures to eject every other round and I shot over 400 rounds. It is getting a little better, but at least a failure to eject in every magazine.

Recently picked up a CR920 (right before the X launched lol) Had 8 premature slide locks in the first 250 rounds, with 2 or 3 of those occurring after the 200rd mark. Want to put another 100-200 rounds through it before I send it in. The spring tension on the slide catch does feel pretty light…

I initially had the lockback problem shooting one handed within the first 300rounds. Not had the problem since. I am 1000 rounds in and have not had any issues at all. It’s running great

I see a lot of people with similar stories . Has anyone’s issue been resolved by Shadow systems yet ? Or recieved an explanation of the problem? I too have had problems and sent back twice so far . Waiting on the return now .

Likely the reverse. This is a new line. Flaws seem to be early. My SN is 800 something.

so far I have around 300 to 350 rounds through mine and no failures at all except last round lock back at times, that is my fault. Every gun I own I have issues riding the slide lock as I have big hands. even full sized guns. I actually have to focus keeping my right thumb resting more on my support hand or it rides the slide. Anyway so far mine has been running very nice. hopefully it stays that way. Would be interesting to see what Shadow systems diagnose the issue to be on these random slide locks with rounds still in mag.

The issue I have is spending $800 for a pistol then I gotta go spend another $150-$200 to break it in with ammo possibly including my defense ammo to see if that will run in it. I’ve been seeing too many issues with this brand to spend that kind of money.

Any edc you should shoot at least 100 rounds of whatever you are going to carry through it Glock has had many issues as it’s a huge company simply google Glock failure etc. all manufacturers of ALL items have what’s call “lemons” where you get a bad one google lemon laws. It happens it’s how they fix the issue at hand. I have six ss pistols and most didn’t need any real break in and all work flawlessly round count ranges obviously In each but my cr920p my cr920 elite my mr920 elite all have well over 3k rounds each. The others the xrp mrp and normal dr have roughly 1k rounds each without any issues outside maybe a few of the very first msg or two. Also noted I was using Winchester white box and did get a few light strikes that ammo is cheap and does that even with Glocks that’s a fact. Give them a shot to fix their mistake and once you get things perfected telling you now it’s the best out the box striker fired for the money imo. I love Glocks big FN guy for the record objectively these are great pistols I understand people have had issues be patient let them fix them. They are still new considering Glock is what 40 years old. They started I believe in 2016 and didn’t start really making firearms until closer to 2018 that’s a very short time.

Mine is away at customer service right now for the lock back problem. Mine started doing it after the first 150 rounds and got worse as I surpassed 200. Happened w 4 different mags.

I recently purchased the CR 920 last month. I loved the ergonomics and the way it shot ball ammo. Then I started trying various types of hollowpoint ammunition after the 200 round break in. At this point it started having failure to feed issues. I wish I could say i had a good experience with the same people. I sent my gun in for them to evaluate. Then they sent it back to me, saying nothing was wrong with it. The gun would chamber hollow points less than 50% of the time. After speaking to some gunsmiths, I wound up polishing the feed ramp. This cleared up all of my failure to feed problems with hollow points. I love the gun just wish it worked the way it should have when I bought it new.

I'm having mine not lock back. My grip on their tiny slide lock/release. No problem with one hand shooting or if I really concentrate on two hand grip,

Good to know. I’m having (along with a lot of others who have commented) the opposite issue. Slide locks open with a full mag even with one handed shooting.

There is nothing wrong saying “slide release.” It it wasn’t supposed to be used to release the slide it wouldn’t be made with a textured paddle to so it. I’m 70. My dad who coached the CA National Guard pistol team for 20-years never call it anything other than a “slide release.” Don’t let these “Tactical Basement Dwellers” tell you anything different.

why would you loctite the dot plate? that's probably the dumbest complaint i've ever heard.

Probably not the dumbest keyboard warrior… since no one has ever commented on that. Also when you buy a pistol with optics cut check out the screws provided plate as well as mounting screws. They have locktite already on them. Also without locktite the reciprocation of the slide will shake the screws loose, which is what happens. Then your plate come off after firing.
