Have a great trip!! Thanks for the update. Your mental health and happiness is far more important than beating yourself against a tree every day all day long. Loved watching and appreciate you putting yourself out there for us to see.

Thanks for sharing the journey!!! It is your hike, it doesn't matter how far you go or don't. All that matters is what you get out of it. Wish you the best on your new adventure.

PS- Thanks for the honest update!!! I would have been worried for weeks wondering if something serious happened to you....

The trail transforms people. It's funny how people think that transformation only occurs if you finish the trail. It started the day you decided to hike and gave you what you needed from it. Glad to see you're in a good spot. Best of luck to you.

You just described the reason I want to do the PCT and not the AT. I'm a Washingtonian and like diverse landscapes. You have to follow your dreams even if those dreams evolve on trail! Good luck!

Good effort! Thanks for sharing your AT adventure. Lots of other trails to explore. Ever thought of the Camino de Santiago? That is on my bucket list. Happy trails!

Happy for you two! 😊 It's ok to quit the hike. I'm good at quitting things. When I do it, I'm under no pressure to see it through. You can always complete it later too. Or try the PCT or El Comino in Northern Spain. Have fun and enjoy life!

Meet you in Hot Springs next year.....Haha! Actually happy to see that you've met someone. But I will be getting my dose of the A T next year. A friend of mine said that he doesn't think I'll come back home. That I'll meet someone and start a new chapter elsewhere. I guess that remains to be seen! Good luck to you Dirty Bunny. May your life be filled with a smooth easy trek, beautiful weather, and plenty of switch backs on the hard climbs!! Doug.

It's so interesting to me to hear the reasons that some people dislike the trail is what I crave. I thrive on doing things alone and thankfully have a very supportive husband! I hope you have an amazing time in SE Asia. It sounds like a great trip.

It interests me as well. I didn't want to do the AT a while ago because it seemed so crowded and even now I know if I did I would start in January. I can deal with cold but don't want to deal with too many people.

You have no reason to feel disappointed in your self. You are just following different set of blazes. May that trail be smooth and full of adventure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice on the reality of your thru-hike.

You do look very happy and at peace with your decision; and that is all that matters. You have had an enriching journey on the AT and now you are simply transitioning to a different life experience. I wish you both a fantastic adventure in Asia and continued happiness! Alpenglow

It's interesting what you mentioned about the scenery being monotonous. I've often thought that's one thing I wouldn't like about a longer thru hike. Enjoy your world tour!

I backpack for the adventure, and love the outdoors. A thru hike of the AT, PCT, whatever, is more like a marathon, if that's what you're into, but that daily grind would kill the adventure part for me also. I know I will never thru hike the AT, but rather, I enjoy section hiking where I want, when I can. You did a huge section hike, a LOT of miles, that's awesome. I did thru hike the JMT, the distance and environment is nothing like the AT, and I recommend that trip highly, if you ever get the opportunity. One more thing. The saying goes that "the trail gives you what you need". You were lonely, and look what it provided for you! That's pretty awesome.

Sorry to see you leave the trail, but I totally understand. You have done what most have only dreamed of doing. Hiking the AT. You have done well and can't wait to see your videos of hiking in SE Asia. You can still complete the AT as a section hiker. A little at a time and on your terms. Best of luck.

Lovely that you found a new travel partner and best of luck to you. Better to have gotten out and tried rather than going your whole life thinking "If only..." It's the journey not the destination (cliche but true).

sad to see you leave the trail, but you did what you needed to, it's def not for everyone. But...It's awesome that your continuing your adventure... you're gong to love Bali....It's an amazing place...me and my husband would go back in a heartbeat...enjoy your next adventure 👍🏼👍🏼

Synthia, I see you comment on videos of ER as well... so, when are you going to hit the AT? I would love to attempt it with my son at some point, but fear that my dreams will have to just be lived vicariously through these vloggers instead.

Blane Pollet ...Unfortunately my life doesn't allow such a long distance hike...I would love to be able to do it though....I just have to settle for shorter 7 or 14 day hikes...but they are just as rewarding I think.

Singapore is a Beautiful and extremely clean city. Ensure you take the time to go to their Zoo, it is one of the best in the world. Hike your own hike also means hike where and when you choose. It is about you and your wants and needs not a group goal that someone else sets for you. Enjoy your South East Asia trip but keep your eyes and ears open as there is some ramping up tensions towards Americans in some places.

I know you really wanted to do an AT through hike, so I feel sorry that you ran into unexpected hardships and had to get off trail. I often wonder if I'll face something unexpected whenever I'm able to start my own hike. I have absolutely no gear, no money, but tons of desire. But I still wonder! Take care, thanks for sharing.

You quit the trail a long time ago. I was hoping you would pull through it . But at least you were honest about the reason. Not the same for other channels. 20 year old mind in a 50 year old body . Something got to give.

I hate you didn't make it to the end, at least you've tried. I find it funny that most of the ppl posting the nasty comments have no content at all on their KZbin page. Meaning they probably never leave the comfort of their couch, BUT they can breakdown what you've done wrong and say nasty things. Happy hiking!
