Glad it has been helpful! We have another tutorial, no DLC version going live now with Muscovy. I do want to stress, that I'm attempting to teach viewers the game! This means I expect people to make their own choices and tell their own stories, I'm going to try and help people do that! So in many ways, this isn't meant to be a Portugal tutorial, just a general tutorial of the game itself. You follow the same basic process with all the countries in the game. It may be hard to follow along exactly once the world starts evolving! Good luck in your campaigns! Let me know if you have any questions.

You're very welcome! We have a France one that is very up to date if you would prefer. But yes, I think this tutorial still works fine for explaining the game to new players. It teaches the mindset, though process and decision making needed to enjoy the game, which doesn't change with patches or dlc.

Awesome, yeah the France guide is more up to date, that will fill you in with the current state of the Estate System. Which is the major thing wrong with the Portugal guide. Most everything else should be pretty similar.

The base game with no DLC became available on EPIC Games. It would have been pretty difficult to attempt to play it without videos like this, thank you very much. I had to stop watching this and watch the Muscovy series through the third video to figure out what happened to estates, as I was trying to play Portugal while also watching your videos. My start was considerably different than yours, I had less money and Castile was also allied with England, so it was a quite different start. Which was a surprise and also excellent as I could not try to coast along with your particular moves/strategies. Thanks again.

I'm responding to your posts out of order! Sadly the Estates in this series are not updated. They are nearly ignorable in any case as we mostly ignore them here. That is still true in the current game. However, all other tutorials on this channel are updated to include the new Estate system! (Muscovy and France with no DLC. Ottomans, Castile, and England with DLC.) Everything else in this tutorials is still relevant because nothing else significant has changed for base game users and also the series focuses on the process of decision making and situational research. In terms of alliances... those change every time you play! The money thing might have been a slight balance change at some point by the developers. But the diplomatic situation is different every time you load the game, that isn't a version issue, that is just how things shake out. Castile with ally and rival different people each time. This means it's really impossible to follow along specific. It's more about the big picture and the process of decision making. I want the people watching this series to feel confident to play the game by themselves and make their own decisions!

@@KRX_ The new estates function may not be necessary; but, I did understand it after watching the Muscovy third video and took that information back to my Portugal first try and found it to be a nice addition. Nice job on all the videos I have seen so far.
@KRX_3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure, the estates add a nice internal consideration to the game, and provide you with some bonuses. So you're concerned with more than just outward diplomacy. Glad that the explanation during the Muscovy episode was helpful in learning the system. (That specific system is usually handled the same for for ever country, early in the game I don't deviate much with my initial choices for estates.)

The estates have changed since this video went live 7 weeks ago. We have a Muscovy tutorial that shows off the updated system, also the Ottoman tutorial is updated with the new estate system. Every other aspect of the tutorial is up to date information. It's very important to understand the estates are not important! They can be completely ignored. Very small aspect of playing and enjoying the game. Thanks for watching, and if you have specific questions, feel free to ask!

New drinking game - take a shot every time KRX says “thematically”
@KRX_2 жыл бұрын
Well if you're not from the board game community it might be a novel concept to think about it that way! This is a tutorial for complete beginners, so it is slow and intentionally repetitive! However, I can assume you, once we get into episode 4 and start 'actually playing' the game. I'm not sure I'm going to be using that word much anymore :) Good luck.

@@KRX_ I totally understand - this is a very well made tutorial series! I’m on part 6 now, and it’s definitely helped me get started. I’m not particularly new to grand strategy or board games (been a big ck2 player for several years) but I was a little intimidated by eu4 because how many more menus and numbers it has going on; you definitely made it more digestible for me, and I also appreciate the hell out of your diligence in replying to comments on a 2 year old video! Keep up the awesome work, man!

Hello, I just came across your series because I am trying to force myself to play RTS. So far the first two videos have been really informative and helpful so I actually know what I am doing. However, in this video you discuss some stuff with estates and it seems that there has been changes to the game regarding estates since you made this video. Is there any new info/tips for them? I wish I could ask more specific questions but I really just don't know enough yet lol
@KRX_ Жыл бұрын
Sadly, the Estates are the single aspect of the game that has changed significantly since this series was uploaded. Everything else should still be 100% applicable information even a couple years later. We discuss the new Estate system during one of the other more recent tutorial series (France, Muscovy, English, etc.) We've done a few to choose from. Also, we stream EU4 on our Twitch channel, and that is a good place to ask questions and have it demonstrated live. Overall, I'd say while learning the game you can safely ignore the estates entirely. The general idea is that their Loyalty value represents how they feel about you, and their Influence represents how strong they are. Keeping their influence in check is good, but also keeping their loyalty high enough for them to work with you, not against you. If their loyalty goes low, it will cause rebellions and such. The nice thing about the NEW system, is you don't need to worry about land allocation, it's all in the background now. You just can add new estate policies which adjust their loyalty/influence accordingly.

Hey man. I am loving the tutorial, very easy to follow after doing the tutorial. Is the Estate map from a DLC or a mod? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks for the vids!
@KRX_4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Estates are the single aspect of this tutorial that is now out of date. The estates have been redone and they no longer occupy literal provinces, therefore the map mode has been removed. If you want to see a playthrough that discusses the new Estate system, the Muscovy run on our channel is also, a no DLC tutorial that features the new Estate system added in 1.3 Austria patch. Also the England tutorial is mostly DLC free... mostly, and it does highlight the new Estate system as well. This is a vanilla, no DLC tutorial of the game.

How do you ever save up enough power to upgrade tech?? It takes like 10 years D:
@KRX_4 жыл бұрын
Ever 15 years actually! The game is themed around ruling a nation through 400 years of history. On average you will tech up once every 15 years. Full campaigns take 40-60 hours to complete! This may or may not be what you were looking for. Keep in mind this tutorial is teaching the game, and therefore it is being showcased at a much slower pace than what an experienced player would be doing!

What version is this in?
@KRX_4 жыл бұрын
This is actually SLIGHTLY out of date. For players playing without DLCs this is 95% up to date. This came out right before the 1.30 patch. So the major difference is the Estates have changed. Although this version of the game doesn't include a lot of crippling economic bugs the AI is suffering from right now. We do have a number of good and improved Tutorial series for EU4 that were made after the release of 1.30 and emperor (these are completely up to date.) Those include Muscovy (No DLC) and Ottomans/Castile (Full DLC) with England as an inbetween (some DLC.)

The Estates is actually the SINGLE feature that had substantial changes since this tutorial was made. It's also a very small part of the game overall. So I would say this tutorial is still useful for learning the important parts of the game. However, we did made up to date, beginners tutorials for this channel. Updated Non-DLC EU4 tutorials on this channel include the France and Muscovy tutorials.
