Full race in better quality than that previously uploaded. I was actually there running in a kids race so my mum recorded the evening on our nice Panasonic VHS recorder.

Thank you for posting this full race in excellent quality! The legendary "Arrogance Personified" youtube video. "Only an Irishman, wearing the number 13"!!!

I was there with my parents (I was 8 years old). We had left our seats to head to the train station, but waited at the top of the stadium to watch the last lap.

Ron Pickering was a top notch Sports Commentator usually - this was one of the very few times he sounded this biased. Mind you, the real clown in this race was Steve Ovett - it was his arrogance that cost him the victory.

Indeed, he did the wave to the crowd the he got sense and stopped doing it!

I have seen this race lots of times and heard the commentary and don't understand what the fuss was. Pickering called it right, nothing arrogant about any of it. Treacy ran a great race, and so did Ovett.

the commentry was so biased against the Irishman by the English commentator shocking really , and sadly no handshake from OVETT, to his neighbour across the channel in IRELAND magnificent race by TREACY as awkward as he did look beside OVETT , as the commentator pointed out ,, bit of a sting for OVETT ,

Agreed but Ovett was imperious almost. I think he went something like 40 races unbeaten around that time.
