Thanks for posting. Great memories of this marathon back in 84. Very poignant today as in the passing Jerry Kiernan who finished 9th in L A that day.

I was thinking the same myself today. While John took the limelight, Jerry also did us proud in LA. I also loved his athletics commentary on RTE so very sad to hear of his passing.

And the Olympic coverage on rte is sorely missing Jerry Kiernan's brilliant passionate analysis.

@@bfc3057 I got into the Colesium on the way back from the worlds in Eugene this summer. It's an awesome stadium. It must have been an incredible feeling entering the stadium for John in 84.

I wonder wether J.Tracy and C.Speding talk about that we are supposed to get either silver medal or bronze one during their running together in last 4miles if second group of theirs are still going till the finish.

They never talked to each other, according to both of them.

They didnt have any conversation. You should read charlie spedding's book "From last to first" he talks in depth about that race

Well that's obvious as they were two different people, but as you probably didn't know, Jerry Kiernan was instrumental in John getting that silver medal assisting him throughout his preparation and training, and his two world cross country championships some years ago were down to Jerry's persistence R.I.P.
