Well when your team struggles bad, and you have to tank to bring in guys like Lemieux, Crosby, Malkin, Jagr, Fleury (all top 5 draft picks, many of which who played at the same time), how would you not win all that? I’m not tryna tarnish what’s been accomplished, but Pens fans act like their team is immune to losing/ have always been great, when really they built their success falling badly for a decent long while. They were the worst team in the NHL before Lemieux stepped in. They have had many high draft pick generational talents who carried their teams to cups. I think a Craig Patrick video would be interesting. As pointed out, he was great at winning big trades in the early to mid 90s. He had to jettison some key players because of $$$ but kept the team competitive by grabbing Lang and Straka off the scrapheap (though his drafting later in the 90s was pretty bad). His trade record 2000 on wards was REALLY bad. Yeah, the team had no money but he basically got nothing for Jagr, Straka, Kasper and Lang (well, literally nothing). Post lockout the team was still a disaster but he did draft in consecutive years Orpik, Whitney, Fleury, Crosby and Malkin.
