Definitely do the editing space in the dining room! Our homes should reflect our lives and let’s face it-not a lot of us are having formal dinner parties every weekend

If you're bored of your breakfast nook area, have you thought about having that as a small editing space and renovating the dining room into a proper eating area? Looking out that back door surrounded by all those plants looks like such a beautiful little area to get work done and the dining room could look amazing when done up! Also I just love the fact that you have done up the house yourself with bits from family and charity shops, and with bits of BTS thrown in too! Honestly that was the part that made me subscribe many months ago and I'm so glad I did! Keep up the good work, you're doing amazing!

I would definitely keep it as a dining room, if you make it more your style you perhaps want make more use of it! And If you’re selling the house at some point I think it will be good selling point with a spacious and luxurios dining room. You could still use the large table for your larger diy:s! Love your house! Especially your guest bedroom! I love the color of the walls.

I would definitely change the formal dining room into an office space. I don’t think you have much need for a formal dining room right now but you definitely need a space to edit so the space will serve a better purpose as an office. You already have a breakfast nook anyway so if you need a place to eat you have that.

Just because I'm an organization fan: Would you ever consider turning the room with all of the files into a kind-of walk in closet / storage space? You could install wall-to-wall shelving and store holiday items in bins on one area of the shelves, your outdoor stuff in another spot, bigger DIY projects in another, and so on. It seems like you would get some really wonderful use from a space like that. And- yes. Turn your dining room into a space you'd use. I'm all about making your home work for you and your life. BTW, my favorite spot in your house is definitely your breakfast area. The sunshine is beautiful and those plants look incredible.

I think you're in desperate need of a shed to keep outside stuff/paint/tools out of the way. Also just shelves in general in places you're using as storage. A lot of stuff is kinda just getting pushed, you have high ceilings for the most part so storing vertically would probably help a lot. That guest room is gorgeous! And I def think that if you're not entertaining often it seems impractical to keep that dinning room as is. Like you said, people are moving off of the island. Maybe turn it into that editing space you said. Seems way more practical.

It's so amazing how you've got all of the second hand pieces - makes it feel so realistic. And the fact that you didn't renovate the whole house in one go does as well! I would keep the dining room as a dining room since having a large table in there would be awesome when you've got guests around! I could really imagine transforming it into the sort of dining area Zoella's got; dark walls that would also tie in the old furniture and give it a cosy vibe ☺️ Lots of love from Germany 💛💛

I just found out from a comment below that you live on the Isle of Wight! My English husband and his parents, our two daughters and I had a lovely week there in 1980 in a huge rental house in Ventnor! Saw Blackgang Chine and Osbourne ? House, ect. Your home looks very nostalgic to me! A combination of the flat we rented in Seven Kings (near Ilford, East London) and my niece's Victorian house in Southend! Makes me want to go back for another visit; been a couple of years...! So it's lovely to see your house looking so nice and still so English!! I showed my husband your little bathroom window and said "you could never mistake this for an American window!". Makes me very nostalgic seeing your house. ..! Love it!

A dining room can be useful if you have a lot of guests come over. I don't actually know how it works there, but in Italy we use to sit all together so we like having a dining room. But if you don't use it, then it's useless to keep it like this. Do what you think you could use more. But, know that I'm thinking about it, you still want to sell the place after a while with all the furniture inside or not? Because in that case, maybe having a full house ready and furnished would be better than to change the purpose of the room.

I’d paint the dining room chairs white/grey (you could also change the fabric to a lovely soft pink!!) but remove the table and replace it with a glass one. I find it opens up the area more and i always move my dining set to the side when it’s not in use. I live in a Victorian house too and the previous owners knocked through from my living room to my dining room to create more light.

You have worked so hard and your house looks amazing. Since most of the things you have hidden away are DIY items, paint etc if you can fit a decent sized shed in your garden it would probably solve all your storage problems in one go. Your outdoor cushions could also fit in there. I'm sure you could build some amazing storage to hold everything in an easily accessible way. x

Very definitely get a desk in the dining room area. I eat in front of the telly n a TV tray. When friends come over we eat off our laps around the coffee table. I sometimes used the table for buffet dinners, but I haven’t missed it. It’s just too wonderful having a giant desk with lots of drawers, I feel like my whole life is organized. And get a second hand rolling chair to go with it. I have a lovely old lamp on it and a wicker tray for bills. It creates a cozy world all on its own.

Hermoine, I love your dining room! I love your whole house, actually. I think you have some amazing furniture. I am a little older than you, but girl you could do soooo much with what you have. You redo the fabric on the chairs (the woodwork is amazing), paint, distress, even rub on transfers to the furniture. As long as you pick your 3 colors or less, it will keep a continuity throughout the room. The barcart is to die for, as well as the floor mirror. I used to say I was allergic to antiques, but now I know those are the pieces the wealthy search for. You have a great house and those pieces have character. 🤗❤

Wow! You really have achieved so much! Well done for your perseverance and positive approach to a seemingly un-ending task :-) I sympathise re: the Monica cupboard. When I realised I had three or four clutter storage spaces I did a quick fix by allocating a category or two to a space. So for now, maybe your linen cupboard DIY stuff could be put under the stairs with the paint etc. Then clear your kitchen bathroom bits into the existing upstairs room with the family filing bits. Could probably be done in 30 mins or so and would quickly give you back peace of mind and two spaces ... for now at least ...because let's face it, renovation is basically Tetris on repeat with our belongings :-) As for the dining room, as a quick fix I would be tempted to chalk paint all the hand me downs white/grey just to neutralise the heavy wood feel while you decide whether it is destined to become your Eating or Editing Suite! :-) Thank you for all the inspiration you continue to provide, your guest bedroom is truly stunning!
