I love, love all these house videos! I also just wanted to note that while I totally understand why you want a small half bath downstairs, it really may be a better idea to keep the downstairs shower. As you and your family members age, having the ability to live primarily downstairs (even short term, like while recovering from an injury or surgery) can become super important to avoid stairs. Furniture can always be moved to make one of the spaces a bedroom, but what can make it difficult is not having a shower, so I think it would be a really useful thing to keep

Oh I had this same situation as well. I completely shattered my tibia bone in my right leg and could barely move let alone walk up stairs. Thankfully our guest bedroom was on the first floor and it had an add on bathroom so I was able to live downstairs while I healed. Wish we still lived there though because it’s still painful to walk up the stairs.

@@ArielBissett I finally figured out what your house reminds me of with all the painted trim, especially the hallways being all one color. It's Gray Gardens after Jackie Kennedy gave money to help fix it up and everything was just painted one color, floor to ceiling. I’ve been following along with the house renovations and this is actually one of my favorites because we get to see the reality of fixing an old house. It’s easy to idealize this situation. I am absolutely loving your renovations. I especially love how each room is so unique and stylized differently than the next but there’s still a flow through the house. Old homes are honestly the best because there are so many natural features you don’t get in newer homes, and anyone can tell you are putting a lot of love and effort into your home. ❤️

Self employed, owning a home, & renovating it to your liking… out here living my dream 😭 I looove the pink and yellow room! It’s so cute with the green couch! & I kind of enjoy the more minimal look for the upstairs bathroom! With the plants too, I could see like white walls, nice wood floors, maybe splashes of yellow and some like dark rustic fixtures to warm it up. Like clean and green and fresh.

Everything looks amazing. You've done so much. Have you ever thought about making a little wooden cove for the ducks, so they could rest in a dry, warm place? I bet they'd start laying eggs for you. Just a little structure to get them out of the wind & snow & put some hay in there. I use to have a male Mallard 🦆 duck & a female & we would get one large egg a day. They wouldn't lay anything until we provided a home for them. Just a thought and the eggs are amazing. Who knows, you could even sell the eggs since you have so many ducks.

Ducks (and chickens and other birds) will never lay eggs for humans, they lay them to have chicks. Please don't steal them from them. They lay eggs in the structure you built because they feel safe and warm there and think that they can provide a good home to their chicks, not to give you eggs. Just throwing that out there.

Just love this series! I wonder if it might be less expensive and less difficult to turn the downstairs full bathroom into a combination laundry room and half bath. And then that space upstairs could be given to an even bigger upstairs full bathroom -- maybe even one that has both a tub and a shower? The plumbing and venting might be a lot less expensive. Just a thought!
@Merciaks

Ooh I think that's worth considering, plus the noise aspect - would keep the noisy machines away from the bedrooms ^_^
@emilymartin5418
@emilymartin5418 2 жыл бұрын
Laundry machines on the first floor make the room below really noisy, so putting them in the downstairs bathroom would avoid that. It's also easier to put a wash on before going to bed knowing the noise is further from a bedroom (and take advantage of lower cost electricity tariff during the night, if that's available). Especially with a tumble drier, most items are fine sitting in the machine while damp for a few hours. It's easier to deliver/service/repair/replace such heavy appliances in the ground floor. But I live in Britain and we usually have our washing machine under the kitchen counter, like Ariel said, so I'm used to a different setup compared to Canadians and Americans.

It’s stunning how much you’ve done in just a year! Your work is beautiful too! If you are able to expand the living room wall, have you considered keeping part of the current bathroom area for your washer and dryer since you already have existing plumbing in that area? It is an enormous undertaking to move, install, etc pipes if one moves a laundry, especially to a second floor for moving a laundry. Plus, there is a great advantage to having laundry on the main floor - and I can envision you creating a magical laundry shoot from the 2nd floor to your first floor laundry! Also, if you plan on having an outdoor clothesline at any point, not having to carry wet laundry downstairs to get it outside to hang is another plus to having laundry on the main floor. Regardless, all of these and other exiting house renovations are for you to decide - it’s YOUR house! So, I encourage your to continue to trust your gut and celebrate your successes as they come into being, Thanks for sharing this amazing journey! Kathleen, Idaho

This is a great idea for an alternative solution, but I do understand why she would want to have it upstairs since all the bedrooms are up there. Having it downstairs would be a pain because even with a laundry chute, you still have to cart it back upstairs and then remember to bring the baskets back downstairs. Maybe I'm just showing my laziness haha, but I know that would annoy me. But if it ends up easier/cheaper I think it is a good alternative. And everyone isn't as lazy as me haha

Her use of color both excites and soothes my artist mind _at the same time._ It's joy. It's poetry in light. Sometimes in her videos she talks about her plans and I think, "No! Your home rennovation series might be one of my favorites ever on this platform. Your style and aesthetic choices are *chefs kiss* immaculate. I love your green hallway with the beautiful staircase. The only changes I would make would be to add a little gold-framed mirror + side table situation to create a hallway vanity look and then maybe painting some constellations on the ceiling with gold paint (inspired by the main room ceiling in Grand Central Station). Those are just my preferences, though c: Your house is absolutely stunning. It makes me so happy to see people pour their love and creativity into their living spaces

It's honestly so awesome what you've done in a year! And, as someone with a renovation project as well (although it's a lot more unfinished than yours and currently lacking in walls for one), I really love your videos and that you're not afraid to use colour! They're not necessarily my colours (I LOVE the hallway green though) but it's so great to see someone renovating an old house and not just painting everything white. Can't wait for what the next year will bring!

I love you house and style! I would love to see a video of you cleaning the dark scary future master bedroom. It might not be as creepy if you just go in and give it a really good clean. Plus it wouldn’t really cost you anything only cleaning supplies. 🤷‍♀️ Bring lots of lights and film it. I’d watch! 😁

I'm so excited for everything you have planned for the next year(s)! It's been so fun to see your home come slowly together. I've recently come out of a very long phase - literally years - full of mental health issues, and ever since I've been doing better, I've been so drawn to colour and have started filling my home with it. Watching your videos gives me so much joy and inspiration, and I'm crossing fingers that my landlord will let me do some painting in my flat, too. For now, I'm just dragging anything with a pop of colour home. 😄🌈

You have a great talent for choosing paint colors. I can imagine a very pale pinky-peach in your upstairs bathroom. With the big green plants, you could get a somewhat tropical vibe. But misty, and not garish. I love what you've done!!!

I realized I was judging your blue and purple. Then I realized while sitting in my terracotta and bamboo painted living room that I painted my high school bedroom pretty much the exact same blue and purple. I love your spooky room. When I was younger we would find disappointment rooms in really old houses where I was from.

I’m so excited for the bathroom video and the kitchen saga! So curious to see you choose a tiles, on the edge of my seat! I’m glad it doesn’t sound like you plan to open up the wall between the kitchen and future dining room. I feel like a lot of people would but it’s not necessarily the best choice

I agree. Keeping the kitchen separate also has the benefit of isolating oil, fumes, etc. from cooking to one room, which makes cleaning and ventilation easier to manage.

I agree! In her house both rooms seem plenty large enough to keep the wall between them. I understand opening up the barrier when the kitchen is a windowless postage stamp and the dining barely fits a 6 person table.

i have lot´s of respect for someone who sticks to their own stlye instead of painting everything white and going with the standard insta esthetic that seems to be in 99% of all interios design videos.

I love the staircase railing. It's so pretty. You and your dad did a wonderful job. I'm with you with the board and batten. It looks amazing. Before you move any walls in your house, please consult with a structural engineer so you can find out if the wall is a load-bearing wall. Hint: you don't want to move a load-bearing wall.
@kathleenmaurer
@kathleenmaurer 2 жыл бұрын
I suspect it is not just load bearing to the roof, but also seems stacked on the foundation (from what I can gather from the videos). Things can always happen, but they start to cost a heck of a lot of money if foundations need to move and LVL’s or worse steel beams need to come into play. If I was her, I’d leave the living room footprint, it’s plenty big. I would add a big mudroom/laundry in that ‘back room’ workshop area and move the door to the new powder room to be accessed by that space instead of the living room. Maybe a way to the root cellar can also get into the back room (might require a digger). Sorry I’m rambling, as a interior designer I get all hyped on layouts and her house is an interesting one!

Your new spindles are probably closer to what the original house had and the straight ones may have been cheaper replacements. I'm HERE for your color choices. I'd choose differently, but not by much, and I'm loving all of this.
