This your first mortal kombat? The ninjas always been around. Mk1 is the first one i purchased in yeeeeaarrs. My fave have always been the robot ninjas like sektor and cyrax.. but sadly they only side characters now. Smoke and reptile will do for now.

I love how in Armageddon instead of using his Deadly Alliance model like they did for every other character, they used his Shaolin Monks design so that he could have a "klassic ninja" outfit, while keeping his MKDA one as an alternate. After seeing that I was always bummed they didn't do the same for more characters, like having old man Shang Tsung or (truly) human Smoke.

Idk how long ago this was posted and I don’t care to look, but Lui Kang did an amazing job with reptiles story in mk1. Spoiler alert, yes the story was kinda messed up for him but his character was just really cool. And his family getting killed after they abandoned him for his shapeshifting ability? Yes Lui Kang could have done something about that. Other than that the dude is a good guy despite the odds, and I definitely picked him for the end of the story mode bc of all the badass abilities he has. Definitely deserved to get it back in blood💯

Reptile was always good at heart. The problem was that in the past Shang Tsung and Shao Khan got him first and made him a slave, always promising a return of his race to make him compliant but never delivering. Liu Kang changed it by restoring his race, granting him the ability to appear human as in the last timelines. Without Shao Khan's influence, we see Reptile as he truly was, a heroic guy if not a frustrated one. Him, Johnny, and Kenshi being bros was the best thing about MK1. I am also drinking.

So yeah Reptile mostly has other character's attacks but his addition took up precious space that could've been used for him

Accidentally made both memorable. Shang Tsung, especially as an old man, shape-shifts to defeat opponents, and Reptile used and uses his cunning against others. Now he's back to being a main character like the first three games and not a jobber who shows up to just spit acid and then punched out.
