Between City Fish Market and Dunkin’ the layout has a very Connecticut vibe. Nice to see local. 👍

That’s where I grew up…Look close at the printing facility. There’s also an Easton press truck from Torrington/Norwalk. Glad you recognize the locations. I thought of modeling New England Central or CT Southern, but there were more options with P&W. Thanks for watching!

Wow, this updated video of your layout is incredibly immersive! And after looking at several of your videos over the last week, and a few other similar small switching HO shelf layout channels, I have let go of all desires / fantasies concerning building a 'dream' basement sized layout, and I no longer envy modelers who are fortunate enough to have that enormous amount of space.
@HartfordWhaler3 ай бұрын
I even had a bit more space available, but made a commitment to myself that I would stick to my plan and go for a true switching diorama type layout. I’ve had full room layouts in the past so for me this was a refreshing change. It’s all about creating a defined area of the world that is super detailed and operationally authentic. I found with my larger layouts I was trying to create an entire railroad on too small of a space (no matter how much room I had). It seems the larger you make your layout, the larger you want it to be and you ultimately end up and up getting caught in an expansion tailspin.
@What_If_We_Tried3 ай бұрын
@@HartfordWhaler Your past experiences with larger layouts, and statements about a refreshing change with a super detailed switching diorama, and your last sentence about larger spaces fueling a desire for even larger layouts all rings true for me, and is much appreciated. I know the era - late 90s to early 2000s - I want to model, now the real struggle is where I want my layout situated in the North American West Coast, and what industries to include, and, how to compress things so that it looks relatively natural, and prototypical.
@HartfordWhaler3 ай бұрын
@@What_If_We_Tried I went through the same process. Just think about what slice of the prototypical world you want to model and stick with that. Often times we try to fit an entire railroad into a layout. To me, a layout should be just a section of a railroad and make it as realistic as possible.

That's a great looking layout. My grandson is impressed by it. My grandson has been filming his small model railway here in the uk, for his Dylington Model Railway channel. His latest one is a stop-motion animation featuring the Dukes of Hazzard with Rosco in hot pursuit, great fun. Anyway we've subscribed to your channel...cheers James 🙂👍

Does 12' length include the hidden staging area?
@HartfordWhaler6 ай бұрын
It’s the whole thing. 12’ long x 20” deep. There is a 2 track interchange yard which is where the cars are “staged”.
@Death_From_Below7 ай бұрын

Actually, now you have me thinking about that idea…could be a dead third track along the yard. Close to the edge of the layout. Hmm.
