I live in an ideal place to grow vanilla. My plant is about 3 years old and huge! I hung a tree branch across my patio. It's about 12 feet long and 4 inches in diameter. I use mono-filament fishing line to train the vanilla vine to follow along the branch, horizontal. It wants to grow up but forcing it to go sideways has not slowed down the growth at all. It sometimes chooses to make a u-turn so there are layers of it going back and forth across the branch. It finally bloomed for the first time a few months ago. The blooms last one day only so I missed most of them but managed to pollinate the last flower. Now I wait for the vanilla bean to mature.

When you said your Paphiopedilum moquetteanum was not growing well and it has mealybugs that reminded me that there are a few species of mealybugs and of aphids that like plant roots. You may want to check out the plant for underground insects. You may not want to unpot it while it is in bloom but you might want to try your hydrogen peroxide treatment that you have used on snails. Your baby vanilla orchid looks like it is doing well but as I am sure you know they can grow to over 50 meters long.

Great video as always. Phalaenopsis, Vanda and Dimorphorchis as well as many others belong to the subtribe Aeridinae, so yes they are more or less closely related

I have the 3-lip peloric variety of Phalaenopsis equestris, and the flowers of yours look to be the exact same size as mine, about 1 cm. Different varieties of this species have different flower sizes, ranging from super tiny to just small 😋 and there are TONS of varieties of this species! Varieties that have the same colouration as each other can still have different flower sizes. I'm not sure what yours is, but I suspect that it's mostly Phal equestris. Maybe something like Phal. Venus back-crossed to Phal. equestris a few times to the point that the leaves don't show the mottling inherited from P. lindenii anymore? I doubt Phal. lobbii or parishii make up much (or any) of its genetics since those tend to pass on a very specific wide lip shape, and the lip of yours just looks SO much like equestris. Could it be yours is actually just a pure equestris? It really really looks like it... that would be cool!

I can't believe it! I found what I thought was some kind of Vanda at a garden center this summer. No ID of course and no one knew what it was or where it came from and it was mixed in with other house plants. I knew it was some type of orchid so I bought it. Very slow growing and it looks exactly like your Dimorphorchis Lowii. I am hoping that is what it is, but I will probably have to wait until it blooms to know for sure. Thanks for helping identify my mystery orchid!

Hi Danii. I live in New Zealand, and spring is here! I love your videos so much. I learned almost everything about orchid from you. Now it's time to repot my orchid. What would you do if your cattleya has full of good roots and no space to get rid of old medium? Would you just put it in a bigger pot? Or would you take old medium out and clean the roots even you damage some good roots? I can't decide what to do😵‍💫

I have a Phal also with really small flowers. I am too lazy to look and see what it is lol I think it is an esquestris though. UPDATE ( I found the name and you had one as well in the past ' Liu's Cute Angel ') Might be a hybrid I am not sure. I just know it branches and has a lot of flowers. The lip is neon orange and the flower is a darker pink. Then I have this one that is white and really dark purple and has a light lavender baby powder scent. This one is new it is called : phal tzu chiang sapphire

Have you ever successfully pollinated and produced viable orchid seed to plant and have you ever started orchid's from seed? My one orchid (with your help in repotting) has bounced back from near death. Totally dead in the root medium and loads of roots above and all four leaves so dried out they felt like thin paper. I trimmed the bottom off and repotted with new potting mix for orchids and now that I know how to water properly this has recovered. The two bottom leaves will not survive but the top two have but they do have a little damage. It even has new roots that are looking real good. I have great hope for this one. My others are happy now after repotting with better potting mix.

True - even finding just deliciosa itself is difficult. But with so many plants (not just orchids) that used to be rare becoming more readily available, even in flower shops and garden centers (the selection at Lowe's in the U.S. is ridiculous now), might be possible🤷‍♀ The size of the blooms and the lightly "mottled-ish" leaves seemed to fit.

@jhndr0nia 10 ай бұрын
There are monopodial orchids (e. g. Vanda, Phalaenopsis and Angraecum) and sympodials (e. g. Oncidium, Cattleya or Zygopetalum). Monopodials produce new plants (fans of leaves at the bottom of the plant or on flower spikes) while sympodials don‘t really produce keikis rather pseudobulbs what is not a new plant just a leaf with a thick petiole connected to the rest of the plant via a rhizome
@sontungle278
@sontungle278 10 ай бұрын
@@jhndr0nia Actually, mine has pseudobulbs growing on top of older pseudobulbs, not through the rhizome. The mother plant has only three pseudobulbs, with each creating its own keiki directly at the very top, instead of through the rhizome.
