Thanks, Danny! I took it as a call to action. I've had two tolumnias that I kept looking at and thinking I need to repot them... but kept postponing it. I finally took care of it while watching your video.

I just love your videos! I didn't find other KZbinrs that show the failures, only the successes. Personally, I learn more when things go wrong. thanks thanks! a million thanks! greetings from Argentina

I also find Tolumnia to like water, I water as soon as it is dry. Same goes orchids with thin roots (Dendrobium, Bulbophyllum, Oncidium, etc.) Thanks for your insights in this video!

Hi Danny thank you for your videos and introducing me to the wonderful world of orchids! ❤ Since a tolumnia came into my posession a few months ago, I have been seeing everywhere that mounting or basket is the best way to pot them and they want their roots to dry every couple of days. How do you keep yours in self watering pots without ruining their roots? Don't they stay damp too long?

Do you use RepotMe Oncidium mix for your Tolumnias? What is the name of the pot and the size? I'd like to purchase some. Love your videos. They are very informative. Thanks.

I'm sorry that the one tolumnia died. 😢 the others look great, though! I have two that I'm still getting to know. Your explanation about how drought can lead to rot, without timely intervention, is wonderful. I saw this happen with a little oncidium type that I got from the local botanical garden's orchid show. After blooming, it started to shrivel even though I was watering it. This is exactly what happened-it had dried out before i purchased it, and so my watering was rotting, instead of hydrating, the dead parts. It survived, but it hasn't yet rebloomed. I hadn’t thought about exactly what happened until I watched this video. Thanks for the clear logic!

Hi Danny, like you said, life happens and sometimes gets in the way of our plant parenting, you did a great job with all of them as you showed us (they are so pretty) Thank you for showing us the good and the not so good side of orchid growing!!!

I’m sorry you lost your Tolumnia, but to be honest, it makes me feel a little bit better. I also neglected my 4 Tolumnias recently. Life got busy, I was distracted - you know the story. One died, but the other three survived. I repotted them and so far one looks very healthy, one is okay, and the third one is on the edge. It could go either way but I’m hopeful that it will survive.

Man i bought two grocery store Phals, did research on them and became extremely interested in orchids. So i bought a few tolumnias. two for myself and two for some of my friends that are really good with plants. Tolumnias were my first non-grocery store phal so i was really excited. My tolumnias were mounted on bark and both developed bacterial rot no matter what i did. This, of course , severely discouraged me and made me feel so bad for killing them. Not to celebrate you killing your tolumnia but its soooo relieving to see extremely experienced growers run into issues. The way you tried to save that one piece and it all just fell apart is 100% my kinda luck. A moment of silence for all tolumnias, you fought….not very hard Thanks for sharing

Can you please tell me how often you water your Columbia orchids in the self water pots? I have the pots and I’m planning to grow them in an IKEA cabinet set up similar to yours but I’m wondering how often to put water in the pots

Love your self-watering pots. Where did you get them from please

Sorry your Tolumnia died. I looked at your video and decided to look at my Noble. I transplanted 3 weeks ago. I carefully cut off all of the brown roots they were mushy. I cut the root/stems too 🤔. It’s growing new stems etc. Your lesson may have saved it. Amateur ❤Carol

An unrelated subject. Do you mist your orchids and if so how often?

I’m sorry you lost your Tolumnia. I still think this was an educational video even though you didn’t think it was. Good lesson for us all!

How about a video of your Cattleya collection, Phal collection, Dendrobium collection, etc?

Oh that would take ages, I may have over 100 catts and over 100 phals 🤭

It’s a shame you lost the orchid, but none of us is perfect. I do wonder how can we tell if the fan is mature?

Tolumnias are so finicky. I swear they like to be left alone in a corner 😭

My mother in law sent me her phals for help. They never had the medium changed in years. They had mealy bugs and lots of rotten roots. One of them had a keiki! She told me to keep it! I did the same thing you just did. I was trying to revive it (no roots) and ended up pulling it apart in the same way. 🫤
