Yeah, I thought it was crazy talk until I had 2 potatoes with quack grass growing through them. I don't like that stuff.

So the crimping - with initial two passes (in the same direction???) and then later the end of the growing season for the flowers and grasses, what happens next. You have laid over some long grasses, and some flowers, autumn (fall) and winter pass, so early spring you have "clean" new growth happening? What level of "thatch" remains - whilst not suggesting you are aiming for a golf green level of lawn... ... but this the 2nd or 3rd season? I would want to see an increase in the "flowers" and the types of flowering plants - to give the pollinators even more choice. So what is the "turf" looking like now? Also - a truly excellent idea in the "up-dates" with both now footage or new voice over the older footage, keep up the great work - and thanks for all the vids!!!!!!

Tim you’re right 2 passes in the same direction. One crimping per season, fall regrowth which gets mowed one week before we harvest that row, for access. Left quite low over winter to reduce vole pressure. The crimping is done from mid June to mid August, not all at once.

Hello, In the near future I plan to start my own orchard in southern oregon. I wanted to get the start correct so I was hoping you could send me in the right direction to start my permaculture orchard. I have watched many of your videos but if I had to plant today I wouldn't have the knowledge to succeed. Hope you're day is going great and god bless.

@@StefanSobkowiak are mice ever an issue for you when growing potatoes this way? If so how do you tend to deal with them?

Nice to see updates. The black raspberries look delightful! How were the potatoes? Did they have good skin , free of scab?
@StefanSobkowiak
@StefanSobkowiak 4 жыл бұрын
No scab on many skins. Our soil is near neutral and potatoes do best in a slightly acid soil.

I’m planning on doing guilds on a lakefront peninsula in Georgia next fall. In a watershed “gully” area, I’m thinking about adding some willows as well to help stabilize the slope. Do willows have any positive or negative effects on peaches or other fruit trees?
@StefanSobkowiak
@StefanSobkowiak 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, all our peach trees freeze to the roots in cold (less than -28C) winters. Willows are a great coppice tree, let it grow one or two years and cut it to the ground and chip it up for the peach trees.

Hi Stefan....what do you think about pruning down the determinate potato plants...theyre getting too tall again. They grow up to 3 plus feet then they all fall over.Theres no flowers yet...just want to know if its ok to prune them down abit. Looking for this info from anyone who might know.
@StefanSobkowiak
@StefanSobkowiak 17 күн бұрын
No don't prune potatoes, hill them up or bank some mulch around them. They will produce more and the tubers will not go green.
