Updating Your Technics SL_DZ1200 Firmware

I just picked up a set yesterday and they’re brand new in boxes. I need to update the firmware and start using them as my stationary set up. Now to google on getting the firmware and how to use them with my MacBook Air M1. Thanks for the video. Btw pretty dope track.

Edit in 2022: It's not that easy to get a SD Card these days with that capacity. I've got some on eBay anyway. Now they've arrived i've had some trouble: the DZ1200 won't format it, it even haven't recognized the SD card. Solution: format it on PC (or a Mac with NTFS / FAT32 filemanagement support) into FAT32 format. After that, the DZ recognized the card and the format was running through as everywhere described.

32 mb card works to format sd card on dz 1200 1. power on unit 2. wait till unit boots 3. insert sd card in slot make sure lid is closed and "play select" is on CD not SD 4. now hold the save button for more then 5 seconds once you see format then select execute. 5. now remove sd and place in your computer 6. move the files over to the sd card (note move files not folder) 7. make sure unit is powered down (off) 8. press 1,2,3,4, cue pads at same time and power on! 9. wait wait wait

All forums tell me that the SD memory has to be less than 32 megs, I got upgrade from an SD of 64 megs without any problem !! It really was a microSD that I draw from an old cell phone, introduced on an SD adapter, send formatting in the SLDZ player and voilah !! Updated firmware 2.3 !! Yeaahhhh !!! I have a new SLDZ 1200, ha, ha, ha im very happyyy!!

yes. it'll still update. 2.3 is the last update created for the technics.

It depends on where you're using it. To the trained ear, you will hear a difference in performance and the decrease in digital distortion. Its definitely not gonna sound EXACTLY like a vinyl deck, but it gets close enough. The software you use does not matter, but the sound card does matter. I hope this helped, thanks for viewing!

ISSUE WITH CUE PADS: The SD Card reader is designed to read up to a 1G SD card. A 1G SD card WILL NOT work for the firmware update. I got the blinking cue lights with a 1G card. I ordered some 32mb SD cards off eBay and it is now taking the update successfully.

1g sd card is to big 32mb or 64mb will work.

1. the update will not work with an SD card bigger than 32 MB (yes, this sucks because they no longer sell cards that low in stores.) i had to buy my 32mb sd card on ebay. 2. i'm not sure how to take the question, but the update eliminates some of the problems with digital distortion while playing or scratching the decks. i'm not sure why your decks wont play mp3s. mine works just fine.

Ordo I retry it again from the start of the update procedure my deck is running on 7.1 firmware I just dont know if it's updating and it's taking a while longer as prob first update it's ever had or what please help from Nicola in uk

+Rabb Monk resolved this. i leave the solution incase anyone has the same problem. format sd card in your mac or pc and set it to exfat. once this is done power up your dz and allow to fully boot up and put your sd card in. hold save for around 5 seconds and it will offer to format, press execute. now put back in computer and transfer the two files. Insert sd card into dz. turn dz off and hold your four cue buttons and turn back on waiting for a moment when powering up. if all of above is done it should get rid of the 3 button flashing.

Dude, ive bought an sd card 32mb, got the update. copied the update after formating the sd card, but when i hold down the cue keys only pads 1 and 2 are solid whilst 3 flashes, its been on for 5 mins now to no avail. when i checked my version before doing this it said 1.9?? do i have to upgrade to 2.1 before the 2.3 version???? HELP me please :)

@@mattietee7566 what size are the SD cards you're using? They are designed to read up to a 1GB S D card but I finally got it to work when I used a 64mb card. I did everything the exact same way the only thing I changed was the size of the card and once I used a 64MB card it worked perfectly

@@mattietee7566 32gb are too big for the reader. I had to get on eBay and search for 64MB cards because they don't make them anymore. I had a 1GB card and it wouldn't work but as soon as I went to 64MB it worked perfectly, following the exact same process.

Jay Effect Hey. I’m not sure if getting Serato timecode onto an SD card is even possible. These decks were pretty outdated compared to all the new stuff we have now. Sorry this wasn’t helpful

Hello, Jay. My cousin has a problem with one of his sl-dz1200, the platter wont spin, when he inserts a SD card platter spins, everything works it plays, pitch control is good. Have you come across this problem if not with ur units, other djs? He trying to repair himself. Does is need firmware update or is it a part replcement issue? Any help with be appreciated. Jose Medina Hi Jose. I never ran into that issue when I had the decks. They’re pretty outdated compared to what decks we have available now. I honestly wouldn’t waste anymore time with these. They’re all show and no go

You'll be very lucky to find that software, is VERY hard to find, plus, if I am not mistaken, the dz1200 will ONLY play encrypted music form an SD card. And it has to be encrypted, through a Panasonic device, that is probably not available anymore. This had something to do, with the record companies, at the time this turntable came out. Also, The Dz , I don't think had a reader, that will accept any card more than 1 Gb. thats not a lot of music, hope this helps.

I've had mine since 2005, never updated them cos i didn't know how!!! thank you for this mate! On the other hand will the performance (after upgrade) make a difference using the decks with software such as traktor,serato etc or will their own soundcard make the quality of sound better? Right i'm off to find a cheap 32 mb memory card :)

Eric Samot Hey Eric. Unfortunately i never had any luck using any SD card above 32mb. It’s a pain trying to find. I had to use eBay to find. But these decks are pretty outdated, so i wouldn’t even bother trying to use them anymore. Good luck!
