I lived in a number of condos/apartments where you had those trash chutes. People were always throwing in boxes and other items that would jam and others would put in bags but not close them, so the contents spilled out on the way down and made it smell terrible. Maintenance was constantly trying to unjam these things and they would often fill up for several stories full of crap (I lived on the top floor and was amazed when I could not get in anything because it was jammed below.) I hated that thing and would often just take my trash to a friend's house who had residential service to throw out may small number of bags. I can totally see why a building would love to have a service like this just in saving on the smell and maintenance costs alone.

Apartments are charging for trash either way, are they not? Even ifs it’s not an additional itemized fee, it’s wrapped into the rent. Instead of itemizing it, properties need to tell tenants that they charge for trash in the rent and as a service to the resident the property hires a company to come get it and walk it to the dumpster for them to save them the trip and to prevent leaks and such from damaging the property’s floors and concrete. The only people that complain about valet trash complain because they think they could just save the $25 fee or however much it is. I live in a house and it’s $35 per month for one pickup per week. I’d much rather have it nightly. Just my thoughts.

I appreciate the hustle. In my late 20's I'd get up at 3:30am, work my dairy buying job at WholeFoods from 4am-12:30pm. Drive 45 minutes south and work from 1:30-7:30pm for a video editing/software gig, drive home and edit for my videography business (weddings/hospitals), work on more editing for my YT channel at the time and website and then go to bed around 10pm. This all resulted in me eventually getting a great job offer that I have now done for the last 14 years. I can't believe I did all that but, like the guy in this video said, it just becomes normal. I'd also do tons of favors for people on top of all that. I used to say "If you want something to get done, give it to a busy person."

These apartments make it a requirement when you renew your lease. No option or they don't renew. Complex gets a percentage, hardly any residents uses maybe 10% of residents. If you leave for work really early the can will sit outside the door for bugs to get in until you get home. Just another way for these corporations to make more money per month per unit when the regular garbage chute is literally a couple doors away that we've been using for years. Condos don't use these since the residents who own get to vote whereas apartments residents don't. It's a scam to residents for it not to be optional; it's not everyday pick up and you work around their schedule versus there's still the chute and bin provided by the city available anytime and the apartments are charging back the city garbage fee to the units as well.

As a forced customer of a similar company - I HATE this model and wish it didn't exist. 1. When you sign a lease you are forced to use and pay for the service even if you don't want to use it. 2. You are forced to use their ugly bin (otherwise I could use something that fits in my interior more). 3. You get FINES. sometimes for no reason. Put a bagged plastic recycle outside in the specified time window without a bin (because trash is not full yet) - 25$ fine. Could not hide bin inside the apartment in a specific time (9am in my building) - fine. A guy who picks up trash leaves a note that the bag was not tied well enough, even though you sure you did - 25$ FINE. Whenever I move I will make sure that my next management does not have a contract with ValetLiving trash pick-up service, because I can walk to the trash shoot and dispose of it whenever I want instead of waiting for pick-up day and times.

I was either selling a service or selling a product of some sort that is in high demand whichever that has a faster turn over at the time. I switch to it. Nothing that's illegal tho. He's probably keeping his 9 to 5 as a buffer for his bills and cost of living, while he keeps most of the business profits for maintenance of the business. Great! I love this video and the entrepreneurship put into it from the owner. Just one thing, and that's my personal opinion. When you start your business, you need to pay yourself and your wife because you guys are self-employed and that's needed to *know your numbers*. This is to give an idea of how much you would pay to your employees in case you need to step back and want to become a *business owners * ,there's a difference between the 2. So even though he says he's bringing $23k a month and profit is $20k, as a businessman, I know he's not making 80% profit as he mentions. Like i said, this is just my opinion, but it would be great if he had mentioned how much he pays to himself, wife, and family members to have a better idea of your overhead expenses and the actual profit of the business. Again, great video and great advice.

What type of bag do they use to pick up the trash bags

Great question! They typically use sturdy, large trash bags to ensure they can hold the weight and volume of the waste they collect.

how many buildings does he service? how many apartments per building? how often? how much time does it take? what does he pay his employees? and how much does each contract pay? per apartment, or per hour? For such a long video, there is a lack of info.

I love this idea. Residents will be incentivized to leave trash outside their door that's properly closed and hopefully, securely tied off. Then, the pickup happens, and if done right, the dumpsters themselves will not be an open-air trash dump with poorly contained trash inside, making them very smelly and thus disgusting and thus more attractive to flies, roaches, rodents, and other wildlife.
