Upgrade Ender 3 - Direct Drive Extruder Easy Assemble. Switch Bowden extrusion to direct extruder.

When I upgraded my Ender 3 machines I did not go with the Creality upgrade as I thought it too heavy, I had used this Creality upgrade on a CR-10 and it introduced print artefacts, I put this down to the mass of the stepper motor so returned it to Bowden, then a few years later the pancake steppers became available so I tried one on the CR-10 and all was well so I put Hero Me and Pancake steppers on the Ender 3's, also I found it much easier to use JST connectors between the original wiring and the hotend, it has since proved good when I had to replace a fan, also with the bed those bulldog clips are too strong and deform the bed to any inaccuracy in the aluminium plate, I now use the thumb screw type fixings that hold the glass without deforming it, also make sure to clean the glass with IPA to remove the adhesive from the protective sheet as over time this will bake and nothing will stick to the bed, soap will not remove all of the adhesive only IPA

I agree with you, this is for sure heavier than the Bowden and it is much more difficult to fix if it get stuck or jammed. I thought about that but also this was the better deal and I have always wanted to try it. Otherwise, I would have needed a side filament holder, new hot end and Bowden and I also needed a new fan so to me this way the money saving style upgrade but I'm with you here. So far, I have to say it is doing so much better than I expected, also I can print the bendable type filament, always wanted to give that a try. Thank you for the feedback, I'm still using my phone and there was some breathing noise that I tried to cut out and ended up like that. I'm working on improving this, stay tuned.

I just added a orignal Creality direct drive extruded on my ended 3 v2 neo and now it will not home it try’s going to far left on x and don’t move on t now that I have all things installed as directions explained ..any idea w it is and how to fix?

Hi, sorry to hear that. I think this has something to do with the end switches cables. Did you by any chance moved them or maybe check the switches? Do you have CR touch or not?

Hi i just brought this set up and for some reason the stepper motor doesn't turn the brass fitting were the filement goes through??all i did was followed the wire set up on the manual they give u and just used the e extension cable.but nothing no power to the motor??have i done something wrong??thanks

So the motor doesn't spin to push the filament, it's not stuck or anything but it sounds like there is no power coming to it. Try moving the extruder manually if it doesn't move then maybe it's the cable or the connection. Try checking the cables then and keep posted. I will be happy to help further.

​@@techs.passionhi buddy yeah there is power to the motor as I can't turn the brass part but turn it off I can turn it freely and I did notice when it starts to print I see the brass part very slowly move back n forward very tiny movement and its like its juddering?I had one recently and had bin printing fantastic then suddenly stopped so I got sent a brand new replacement set up n nothing now:-((thanks

Sorry, I think I miss read that. Does the motor spin if no filament and you manually move it using the printer extruder move? We will figure it out I'm sure but it could be stuck. Open the nozzel and see if you can pass a filament all the way from end to end to ensure it's not jammed
