This vid will come in handy i never done a ram mod on a 1.6 console. I need to do a recap and a 128mb mod on mine aswell. You can now bypass the clock cap on 1.6 consoles. Redherring has a really simple guide on bypassing it. I might consider sending it over for a CPU socket mod, it would make for an interesting video since i will be installing the upcoming Open Xenium HDMI mod into it.

Its the Xblast OS, which is flashed onto an Aladdin chip. There are a few open source chips that you can install the OS to as well.

Huh my comment was deleted... Adding 256MB of RAM is signifigently more complex then adding ram to existing banks and using a custom bios. Prehistoricman on HackADay was able to but he had to write new custom bios with ram management and add some traces to allow for signaling; there were some issues as he had to use BGA ram which required he make a custom PCB; looks like the traces weren't equal distance which is causing some issues.

What's the benefit of more RAM on the Xbox?

XBMC seems to run a little smoother with it, though I imagine a faster CPU would help more. A few emulators can use the extra ram as well as some debug titles that you can run on the XBOX.
