Could someone help me out? I don't know how I should update it. I had a virus on my Laptop so we had someone repair it but we have now a really old version and I don't know how to update it. So I have the CD for windows 8.1 but I do not know how I can use it. The product key is not written on the CD because you said that it has 25 numbers but I can't seem to find it on the CD. +only'a'stranger So what you need to do is: Find your CD and make sure that you have your product key. Then, go to your computer turn it on and insert the CD. Then, make sure that the CD is detected. Then go online and check if your hardware meets the requirements for Windows 8.1 (CPU: At least 1GHz, RAM: For 32-bit:2GB, for 64-bit:4GB and at least 30GB of hard disk space). When all that is done, you can continue with upgrading. Make sure that your disk is still in the drive. Then turn off the computer. Now, as soon as it turns on start spamming F8, that way your computer will give you the option to choose from what device you want to boot. If you're a beginner don't panic if you can't move your mouse, because there's no mouse in boot menu (you can navigate with your arrow keys). Select your Windows 8.1 CD and press ENTER. It shouldn't take a while to boot (depends on your computer speed). You'll know when it boots as soon as you see a purple screen. It will say Windows 8.1 and bellow it you'll need to select your language, country and your keyboard input. When you're done click NEXT and then click INSTALL NOW. It'll say Setup is Starting or something like that and then white screen will pop-up to ask you about your product key (Product key looks like this:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX), enter it and click NEXT. It will ask you how do you want to install Windows 8.1. Upper you'll see an Upgrade option (that means it'll keep all your files and apps (including viruses (if you have them))) or you can choose Clean Install (that means it will erase everything (format the drive)). If your chose Upgrade, it'll check if your software is compatibile with your new software and then start the upgrade. If you chose Clean Install it will automatically install. It'll take about 10-15 mins on a fast computer, or 20-30 mins on a slow computer. when done it will reboot, and therer itm is.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't get what people hate about windows 8. It can literally do everything wndows 7 can do and much much more. 7 was pretty ugly compared to windows 8 which is one reason I switched. Also windows 8, again, does all the same things 7 does, and more. I used windows 7 for about 2 and a half years before building my gaming PC and switching to windows 8. It was extremely easy to transition from 7 to 8 considering I had never actually used windows 8. Some things are done differently but in my experience windows 8 just gets things done quicker and more easily. Not to mention some of the apps you can have on the Metro UI or whatever are pretty handy. The Email, Twitter, calculator, and weather being my favorites. Windows 8 is anything but steps backward if you take 20 minutes to learn how to use it.
