The metal transmission pan bolts are tighten at 12nm of torque. 10nm is for the the plastic units.

I was told by PPE to use the OEM specs. I’m not sure I’d want to go 12Nm (which I’m sure would be fine) knowing that metal expands with rising temperatures.

The aluminum pan is on the trans. If anything was to blow up it would be the trans, but if it happened at all it had to have been installer error because I’ve been running this pan without issues.

Yup. I was changing my trans pan and fluid on my BMW 428i and I had this in mine going into the service and very very good thing I did. That plug was so hard to take off because you can’t get a big enough ratchet in there that’d break it free. My craftsmen 3/8 flex head ratchet with enough persuasion knocked that thing off and the rest was easy. The darn cat is in the way of the fill plug a little, a lot actually, and I burned my hand putting the full plug back on after filling up to operating temp.
@i679n5

I agree with you, but it only helps you when you have issues with opening your fill plug. Issues with tightening the drain plug will make you end up in same situation.

Hey man, watched a couple of your videos, well done, I’m doing this exact pan upgrade and adrenaline fluid change based on recommendations from a tuner also. I saw another video, just to clarify they want you to get the transmission temp to about 40c after the first fill then fill it some more. But also the guy added fluid while the engine was running not sure if that’s a mistake or procedure because fluid likely will get pumped in and circulated while the engine is running or only when the transmission is moving? Thanks … out of Tampa FL
@NoClutchGarage
@NoClutchGarage 10 ай бұрын
Yeah you do a cold fill, then you get the trans up to temp, run through the gears as much as you can to get the fluid moving throughout the whole trans, then fill again while the car is on. It’s a multi-step process.

Does changing the fluid prematurity ( 10-30k miles) impact longevity? Its common to hear to not change fluid until 100k.
@NoClutchGarage
@NoClutchGarage Жыл бұрын
So changing it prematurely will not have the same effects as if you were changing it late. Reason being that over time the transmission will release friction material from the clutches and such that eventually become part of the fluid. What this means is that the fluid viscosity is now changed because of the added friction material and that material itself also helps the transmission grab the clutches and operate as intended. When you flush that fluid you’re also flushing the friction material that by then the transmission has adapted to and thus it loses the viscosity it used to have and can cause clutch slip as the excess clutch material is no longer there to help with that job.

great video! I've been on the fence about this. Have you ever actually checked transmission temps? It would be cool to have a before and after of some sorts. I myself don't check these so I'd understand if you didn't either... This is still one of those "peace of mind" jobs I'll be doing
@NoClutchGarage
@NoClutchGarage Жыл бұрын
I have monitored them in the past but I typically don’t unless I’m racing. I’d say typically you’d expect temps up to 210°F and the pan may definitely help keep those temps down especially in cold weather. However, I suspect the temps are lower on average rather than just automatically lower, if that makes any sense. The best way to deal with temps is to close loop the system and add a transmission fluid cooler up front.
@damians8498

@@NoClutchGarageafter doing some digging I'm thinking if mostly doing Highway driving then this ppe pan is probably a useful upgrade but if there's track use or canyon runs or any continuous spirited driving then this pan may do more harm than good. Same size pan surface area but more fluid and the increased fluid in that space will actually retain heat more. The Inpower version may be the better option.

If it’s a high mileage auto it’s better to do 50/50 (old/new) fluid. If it’s super high mileage with no maintenance history most techs won’t even risk changing the fluid. The material in the fluid actually helps the clutches. 👍

When it begins to drip out of the pan through the fill plug hole. The OEM capacity is 7qt but realistically you’ll only use 5qt during a service. However, this pan holds about 1.5qt over OEM so you’ll use closer to 7qt for this particular service. If you add a transmission cooler that fluid volume will be even higher.

A perfectly fine plastic pan that can take a rock or stick from the road and break, has a drain plug in a bad place, no cooling fins and no replaceable filter. Hmmmmm. That PPE pan takes a little extra fluid, but there are several reasons why your fluid will be much happier in this pan than the plastic one (aluminum pan helps with heat too). Buy the PPE. It's cheaper than the junky OE one that you can't even replace the filter on!
