Sorry to read what's happened, but don't let the storm win.... regroup, take some time, start a new... perhaps look at it as a chance to redo things a bit better than before ? Fyi we have discovered here in NZ after the Christchurch quakes that being insured isn't a guarantee of a payout after, let alone 7 years later. You may have saved yourself a heap of paperwork and legal fees in not being insured...you could come out of this better off than people that were insured...Rgds Laurie

I love my QX7!!! I was using a old Turnigy 9X on stock firmware and I was in need of a huge upgrade but didnt want to spend $200 for the Taranis 9D so i got the 7 and its so goooooood! I will get the gimbals after i hydro dip my case in zebra stripes and get fancy colored accents etc... :)

bro ,you might be psychic, im moding my qx7 this weekend... already have a 5dbi, 9dbi, 11dbi antennas( for different situations), 4w 2.4ghz amp(w/ toggle switch), two rp-sma plugs (for removable antenna), billet stand, billet switch bezels, Aux battery, and i just ordered the gimbals.

I upgrade my QX7 with M7 gimballs and it fells awesome :) And that silicone case is aweful xD I don't know Stew, but for me, it really degrades the transmitter xD

I found this radio to be much safer after grinding off the long switches. I accidentally tripped my arm switch with a live quad -- it broke my watch band. Scary stuff.

I have a Taranis X9D and the Turnigy Evolution and I feel the same way. I absolutely LOVE my evo. Maybe it's because I have Trump hands (small), I don't know. I just know that my X9D doesn't even come close to feeling as good in my hands. If Stew had made the jump I was going to take that as an indication that I might need to do the same.

I did this upgrade along with replacing the white body to a carbon fiber version, only to find when all reassembled that my lcd display stays blank:(, ordered a new lcd screen to see if that will fix the issue.

Im rocking your budget FPV race drone setup, and I cut the sticks on my radio down and secured some slightly modified xbox sticks to it. It's not beautiful but it feels right at home for me. Problems is, is that if I were looking into nicer radios, well it would just be hard to cut the sticks off of an expencive radio. Is there a product out there with removable/unscrewable sticks?

Luke AOD you can twist off the metal stick and replace them with other stick, like those that are similar to Xbox pads with screw holes

Hey Stew! Just a heads up those little cable holders inside the Taranis are called 'P Clips' :)

I got my QX7 today and after a bit of fun in the sim, I naturally opened her up to tweak the gimbals. (I *love* hardware that's designed to be opened up :D ) That clip on mine has two arms with blobs on the end, that wrap around the cables and grip together with a little friction. Much easier to pull cabling out without unscrewing the whole clip. Really nice little touch there, I thought :)

achine de zoysa depends if u wanna spend the money on a taranis. They aren't cheap 😂. FlySky radios are great (and very cheap) i know people that are pretty much pros and still fly with an FS-i6.

I'm just starting out, and I'm investing in the QX7 because 1) OpenTX looks like it offers a lot more features, 2) FrSky seems to be universally applauded for excellent signal quality, and 3) I think it looks better. I was originally planning to get a FreeSky in order to get into the hobby quicker, but in the end couldn't resist the pull of the QX7. It'll mean more time on the simulator before I can afford to build a quad, but I'm a patient guy :)

It wont work. Not unless you buy an external Module you can plug in the back like orangeRX, I believe there is a dsm version of it.

Do any other USB devices work with your phone? Can you plug a USB mouse in and get a mouse cursor come up on the screen? I don't have a single cable that goes from micro-USB from the phone to mini-USB on the Taranis, so I'm using a regular mini-USB cable and a USB OTG adaptor to plug into my phone (a Nexus 5). If your phone accepts other USB devices, you could try your Taranis in another host; another phone or a computer?

The m9 gimbals are a bit larger than the m7 gimbals you would have to do a bit of cutting to get the m9'S to fit

The QX7 is not high-end, by RC standards. It's actually considered pretty medium-to-low end. It's a sweet spot, though. Really solid investment. At the end of the day, RC is not a cheap hobby. And you get what you pay for.
