Thanks a lot for this guide! I love these overlays, but wish I could make a slight adjustment to them. The SP ones for GBA have a shadow that looks brown on my screen. The regular ones have a perfect shadow, but I don't like the GBA logo it has. Could I just open these up in Photoshop and copy the SP logo to the default one? Or is there some software I should use for this?

This was a very nice relaxing video. Very informative. I have used overlays and filters myself in the past, and I probably have some devices laying around with those things enabled, but lately I've been avoiding those things, and have just been using stock for the clearest image possible. For me personally, it feels like a step backwards to go from having a crystal clear IPS or OLED screen to an inferior dot matrix screen with displeasing green shades for Game Boy. I still have my original Game Boy, bought in 1989, in perfect condition, and I always hated having to find the right light source. It's horrible and strains these old eyes. It's 2024 now, so I use today's improved technology to my advantage. Heck, even my original Game Boy Advance, bought in 2001, that I still have in perfect condition, had the same issue with trying to find the right light source. 😅

I can 100% understand your point of view and respect it. I guess for me it has something to do wanting to play the games as I remember them, and as I don't own the original hardware I jump through these hoops to get there. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your take on it.

Miyoo mini plus is 640 by 480 though right? Did you mean the miyoo mini V4 will not work with perfect overlays? Because it has different pixel structure?
@PhyrexTechs4 ай бұрын
You are right that the MMP is 640 x 480 but for some reason the MMP display is off centered by 2 pixels which messes up the grids. The original releases of these Perfect Overlays by 1PlayerInsertCoin are for the MMP, so those can be used on it. However the ones in this pack have been adjusted to correct this pixel issue to work on other devices and not the MMP.

How do these differ from shaders? Would shaders also work on the RG35XX SP? Thank you,
@PhyrexTechs4 ай бұрын
The major difference between overlays and shaders is the resource cost. Overlays use virtually no resources as it's just a static image being overlaid onto game image. While shaders can vary from lightweight to resource hogs as they are processing their changes on each frame. There are some nice looking shaders but I like the look of these more and it being less resource taxing is a nice bonus.

@PhyrexTechs4 ай бұрын
OK, so I just tried it on my side with Robocop 3 and I see what you are talking about. This is not an issue with the overlays, but because a lot of NES games can have underscan/overscan issues. Some games have odd values that don't align with most other games but there is a way to fix it. While running Robocop 3 Open the Retroarch menu Go to Core Options Set: Crop Horizontal Left Overscan : 8 Crop Vertical Bottom Overscan: 12 Then go to Manage Core Options and select Save Game Options so it will save this for Robocop 3 only. Other games you notice with this issue might need different settings. All you have to do is increase or decrease the crop overscan settings until the picture looks correct and then save it for just that game.
@DirkCleiren4 ай бұрын
