Finally someone who actually replaced those guide rods with linear rails instead of saying they installed linear rails but really only installed more useless guide rods. Gratz man and happy cutting! This confirms that what I was planning to do with the 3018 I ordered should work fine. Time to get to printing and milling parts.

The milling head swings terribly. Isn't it possible to tighten it a little shorter?

@@guser210 Okay. How did you proceed with the modifications ?
@guser2109 ай бұрын
@@pierpaolop9534used the orignal 3018 to spot drilled the hole locations on the columns and the spindle base and holder and drill everything manually, that was the first upgrade, 2nd upgrade was a motor and mount, also spot drilled the holes since the old motor could not cut anything oustide of soft wood, but with the previous upgrades it made it more precised, 3rd upgrade machined all the parts with the upgraded machine. the upgrade also includes 2.1amp steppers and the spindle is contrlled externaly with a speed controller.

Ok so that’s a brushless spindle how did you change it to brushless. Using the original control board or a complete different set up?

Great machine man. How did you fixed the stock to the plate? That blue thing is?
@jeromesurffoil7033Ай бұрын
You apply blue painter's tape to the bed and the bottom of the material. Then you use CA (super glue) to adhere the tape to each other. When you are done milling, you can peel the tape off both surfaces. Cool trick!

Original model genmitsu 3018, I don’t have the list of items handy but is 500W motor, HGR20 rails for the bed, MGN12 rails for Z and X, and SFU1204 ball screws for the X and Y.

By that time that ain’t no more 3018 and I guess for the costs one could have had another model. That all said this Frankenstein monster does work excellent. It ain’t the 3018 but it is awesome mini CNC machine finally. Good job.

3018 is under 200$, next model up is 500$. This maybe has 180$ in mods and is definitely better than any off the shelf cnc under 500-600

3018 refers to the surface area.. but yeah. best upgrade ever.. my 500W spindle and mount are on the way. cant wait to get to work. In contrast.. it was this or a drill press with X-Y mill table. this costs way less. and a $35 offline controller. its just a digital drill press for aluminum plate now.

@@guser210 awesome, thank you. I'm "upgrading" my 3018 like you did yours and I think I'm struggling with figuring out the spindle situation the most. Do you think the rigidity/vibrations, the stepper motors, or the spindle is the weakest point right now?

@@samhoodak8075 the spindle neck on the original machine was the biggest source of vibration followed by the rail guides on the z axis and then the guides on the x and y.

Why are you dancing around with the camera like you gotta take a leak?! It's making me dizzy. Hold still, son! Cuts look clean though. I know it's not easy to dial right off the bat but the finishing pass, while it was great on the DOC, could've been shallower on the WOC. The longer area of flute engagement with material means more deflection (in a tabletop machine). I dunno if I would've broken the finishing pass into two, or just made the roughing passes go out a little further to thin out the finishing cut on the walls. Looks like it worked out really great though!
