Is it possible to reinstall the cosmetic pillars back with the new rubber suspension ?

What is the height difference of the chassis with the pylons compared with the springs? I assume the chassis and platter will be higher and the motor needs to be raised accordingly..

So? why don't you complete the video wit the installation of the platter and the suspension calibration? To me, as shown, is no longer a suspended turntable, but almost rigid. What about the upper rubberband? Don't you need to remove it? What benefits this suspension provides compared to the original? As of now, this video hsve no sense.

To me, these "Pete Pillons" looks like the SME 15 suspensions. The SME 15 is a bad copy of the Gyro. Sometning like the Audiotechnica AT-LP140 or the Stanton ST150, compared to the TECHNICS SL1200. Every version of it. Looks like it but rhey are not it.

this idiotic suspension change assumes the original designer botched the suspension and was unaware of rubber band type suspensions when he made his original design choices for this successful and well respected classic product. just because a person can make a product doesn't mean it is needed, just like making a commercial to sell product disguised as an instructional video is not always a good idea. The fact that the original springs were , "stretched out " and "backed up so far " that the spring cover towers no longer fit indicates to me he that doesn't understand the Mitchell design and has somehow managed to ruin his factory supplied suspension during the simple task of playing records. . He compounds this ineptitude by not replacing the abused springs with OEM parts, available from Michell. Instead he chooses an aftermarket part from some guy named Pete, who claims he has out engineered Michell at his own game, but offers no proof beyond random quotes , while never describing the problem with the original design that his product remedies, other than that it no longer bounces as ir was originally designed to do. .

Richard, I can understand your thinking, although sometimes designers don't think of things other people think of, even if those things are obvious in hindsight. Maybe steel springs were easier to make or have made when it was first designed, or they chose them for durability reasons. I still use the original springs on mine, and it's 22 years old. They don't appear to need replacing. They're very strong. When it was designed things were made with more robust materials and possibly rubber was rejected as being too weak. I'm not sure if material technology has changed or improved since then. I've been pondering whether to buy this modification off and on for years now and am about to measure the holes etc in order to probably place an order. It costs a fair bit to be honest, but if they only make them in small numbers it's probably understandable. I've done a lot of research on the internet about this mod and I've asked people on forums who have had it installed, and the mod gets universal praise. The vast majority of people say it's the best "upgrade" they've made to the Gyrodec. I've not heard anyone say it didn't improve the Gyro. Some said it's better than the Orbe clamp upgrade, which I got some years back and made a big difference, and some said better than the power supply upgrade which makes a big difference. I'm still nor 100% sure I'll get it, but I believe you can return it if you're not satisfied with it. Again not 100% sure about that so anyone would need to check the website. If it's a made to measure order then I should imagine you wouldn't be able to return them. Ironically I tend to prefer lots of bounce on the Gyrodec to the extent that the pulley isn't level and have to put something under the Gyro motor to raise it a bit (I use sound dead steel). With a lot of bounce I think the treble has more air, and the bass is richer and more organic, possibly a little less tight and deep but more musical. Mids aren't as forward sounding. So why consider this pylon upgrade which stops vertical bounce? Well it stops horizontal bounce too, which probably does affect the sound as the style moves through the grooves. So that what's what concerned me about this mod. I would lose some of things I like. However, I've asked a few people who'd bought and installed it and everyone said everything is better bass, mids, treble etc. I've also read discussions from other people who bought the mod. But what has probably swayed me into buying it is, they all said the Gyrodec sounded more relaxed, less strained, more natural sounding without any loss of detail. I thought it may make the Gyrodec more CD sounding and less analogue, but I've been assured by users that it doesn't. Apparently you can still fit the metal covers after the pylons are fitted. This is what I've read. Michell have just started selling new springs which appear to be rubber coated (again quite expensive) so they must have known about it's weakness in the spring design. It'll be interesting to read some reviews about them as more are sold and whether they make much difference. The Michell website says it does. I've not found any reviews from Gyrodec owners yet though. I know some audiophiles tend to have a lot of money but I can't afford to waste money, so if I buy something I want to be as sure as possible it'll be good, so I do a lot of research on internet, and as I've said I've not read one person saying he/she preferred the original springs. Some of the people who bought the modification would not think twice about throwing it in the bin if it didn't work, as they think the pylons are cheap. Probably shows you that they are quite comfortably off, and don't need to like the mod. Someone who thought they'd spent a lot on the pylons may be more likely to persist with using them. I'm pretty sure this mod will make a big difference. Whether I prefer that change only time will tell. By the way I bought the Pedersen Armboard mod years ago, and eventually removed it because it reduced the bass too much. that seems to get great reviews too, but I think it may suit "gimballed" tonearms, whereas my tonearm is a unipvot, so vibrations through the arm may be less anyway. I've got no affiliation with TruePoint, just trying to give you a fair response to your comments. All the best.

@@michaeljones3694 I direct your attention to an article called " the genesis and history of the legendary Michell gyro deck turntables -Dawn of a new era", from march 15, 2022, an online posting from Soundstage Ultra. I found it an interesting read, and trust you will too. Down toward the bottom, by a picture of the research team, is a discussion of the subsonic testing that lead to a rejection of the rubber band suspension but did lead to coating the springs for less resonance. I think I will probably just plasicote my existing springs, as I don't think the damping substance could be super critical, as long as it works. And I am not "Mr. ultimate hifi guy 'anyway. Glad to share with another who really enjoys the table. As for online opinions , as enthusiastic as I am to improve my hobby stuff, The world of automobiles , where there is a finite measurement , no hearing processing involved to cloud the issue , has tempered my respect for online performance upgrades. I feel they can often be no better than gossip magnified by the internet, that people like to spread, giving the illusion of superior insight, and by implementing the suggestions they now own special and unique stuff, but without testing and results, are nothing more than space age gossip.

@@richardelliott8352 Just an idea, but have you tried a light density open cell foam in between the springs, that should surely stop any resonences,I was an Upholsterer by trade foams come in many different densities, but you could try a new car washing sponge,as thats the density I imagine would work,it's not hard to shape with a pair of scissors ,and it should help with suspension, of the deck.
