Upgrading a Plasma Cutter - The best way to Increase Cutting Capacity

My new Flameweld 50 amp plasma cutter cuts pretty well before I did a plasma cutter upgrade which helped me do my cutting jobs easier and faster. But what did I use for the pilot arc plasma cutter torch upgrade and why did I do the upgrade?
In my first video which is the unboxing part of this new unit, all the accessories are there in the box. From the smallest consumables to the torch, everything was good. But I quickly noticed that the ground clamp that comes along with the unit was quite weak with a low voltage cable. The cable is short, thin and flimsy and the clamp is small and weak; there's no tension in its bite. Nevertheless, a ground clamp upgraded into a better clamp should make my new machine work better.
A plasma cutter upgrade with the ground clamp is fairly easy to do as you can see in the video.
However, when I began to demonstrate how this unit performed even to the point of cutting a quarter of an inch thick of steel, I felt a little awkward with how the torch felt. Incidentally, the torch was rather small for my large hands. In other words, I felt uncomfortable using the small torch.
For your info, this torch that comes with the unit is a P60 plasma cutter torch which I also use in cutting up steel using my old Cut40 plasma cutter. But since the Flameweld has a 50-amp current capacity, I decided to go for a pilot arc plasma cutter torch upgrade and that is by changing the P60 into a P80 torch.
But if you have bigger hands like me, a plasma cutter upgrade should be considered. Also, the ground clamp upgraded into a bigger and stronger clamp has added to the versatility of my new unit.
If you want to purchase the same unit, don’t get surprised with the ground clamp and the torch but it’s up to you if you also want to do a plasma cutter upgrade. Most of you will be satisfied with the pilot arc plasma cutter torch that comes with the unit. But a ground clamp upgraded into a far better clamp is what I highly recommend.

Great thinking, I've just had most bits arrive to do the same kind of earth lead upgrade for my MIG, the original one is too light grade, the clamp only just fits 20mm box, time to go bigger and stronger.

Awesome Pete! I tend to like the upgrade ground clamps that Horrible Freight has. I do not know if you have something like that. I believe they are brass and copper. I am totally psyched to see the larger torch head. I want to adapt a Hypertherm torch to mine and add some capacitors maybe to upgrade the cutting power.

You can take a piece of copper tubing and mash one end drill a hole into it and mash the other end onto the cable and put the other end with the hole onto the clamp

I wonder if a larger power cable would squeeze a little more power from it? I have a newer version of this machine and it has a small 110 Volt cord and then an adaptor to make it fit 220. After the warranty is up I may put a big, heavy 220 cord on it.

Hi Pete, I no longer buy lugs, as im a cheap bastard. Instead, I make em out of copper pipe, just use the size pipe that fits the copper braid snug. Squash one end flat, round off and drill for ground bolt, slip in copper braid in other end, stake it and youre done!

I have a cut 60 pilot arc plasma cutter and I want to have a better quality torch head that I can drag on the work. The type of head I have is an AG-60 and it eats consumables like cough drops. I need something better and more robust. Please help
