In this video I'll show how to replace a floyd rose bridge to the gotoh ge1996t in the easy way without special equipment.
I am not responsible for any harm caused to your guitar, doing this is at your own responsibility. If you are not sure you can do it properly, give the job to a luthier!
2nd tune is paul gilbert, search drill song.
3rd is charlie christian.
I've used a part of UHF and modern times.

Much better with a german post insert because its 10mm rather than the 11,3mm of the gotoh. Anyone upgrading needs to check if the wood on the bridge cavity has enough wood to support the bigger gotoh stud insert. If you dont have enough wood then you could crack your wood on the tip of the post insert down below the instrument cavity. You need same wood distance from the back of the stud to the wood edge of the body cavity. One could also use an insert with bar to mount on the wood with screws like this in the video, the one he is trying replace. That bar reinforces both insert from warping or flexing. That bar reinforcement is way better than the gotoh.
@TheGhostGuitars
@TheGhostGuitars 4 жыл бұрын
Thats one option, another option is to reinforce the sidewall adjacent to the studs inside the pickup cavity with glued-in & bolted-/nailed-in thin strips of metal similar to what the guy in Guns and Guitars channel did when he converted a strat 2-point trem to a floyd.

Good Video. I have to ask though. I have a Charvel with a Floyd 1000, stays in tune perfectly but even if I use different gauge springs or less springs it's just too stiff. I am used to the Ibanez edge pro's that are way smoother. Will the Gotoh be easier to push down on (as in gliding more smoothly?) Thanks, Also do you know if the gold color Gotoh would match the Floyd gold hardware? It's hard to tell from the pictures online, but it looks as if the Gotoh's are a darker gold than the Floyd's. All my hardware tuners, volume, tone bridge and nut are all the same color gold. I think it would look weird if the Gotoh is a different shade

It will work. But I can't guarantee perfection cause I don't know if the stud if fitted exactly for the knife. Also it won't have the stud lock benefits, and it may feel a bit stiffer. Just make sure the original trem mounting stud's bolt spread is within the gotoh's compatibility range. If memory serves the Edge is generally larger than the Floyd's measurement (DL Trem is based on the Edge, but is mass produced with looser manufacturing tolerances).

Why did you replace the stud with anchor reinforcemnet on it? That was a better system. If you were after the locking part of the post, you couldve used teflon tape on the post threads to make it tight. Same as locking effect.

You got lucky. Using a hand drill on the stud holes is just asking to rip the shit out of your guitar. Never do it, always use a drill press.also, it would have been nice if you said what size bit you use to enlarge the stud post holes, although that info is on the instructions I would think.
@OrenSharonx
@OrenSharonx 4 жыл бұрын
Each bridge has it's own size. GOTOH are 3/8" if I remember correctly. A press is indeed the best way, but when you already have a large hole it's pretty hard to mess up IMO. Never heard about somebody failing that way.

I've found that it's really worthwhile to buy a inexpensive Drill press from pawn shop... To do any drilling like posts... And even headstock tuning keys... Because doing it with a hand held drill... Upgrade from Floyd rose to Gotoh? Gotoh better than Floyd Rose, are you serious? Are you japanese?😂😂😂 I am not Japanese or German but I have an Ibanez Rg520QS with Floyd Rose Pro (made in Germany)and Ibanez 752 Prestige with Lo Pro Edge Ibanez(made by Gotoh) and between both I say Floyd Rose is more stable, reliable and the bar is more well connected even thought I have installed that floyd since 2010 on my 2001 Ibanez, in stead of Gotoh one is from 2014 and the bar is no well connect to the bridge, then when you use it, doesnt have that reliable stable feel that Floyd's bar has, beside is always in tune as different than lo pro edge by gotoh. In fact in the future I will buy a Floyd Rose Pro 7 string for my Ibanez 7 string, as I did on my Ibanez rg520qs.

I'm not Japanese :) In the video I replace a FR style made by Cort. Anyway, I still think that the Gotoh GE1996T that I show here is better than OFR (I own both). I mentioned the reasons in the video, and also the Gotoh just feels for me better and smoother, and the arm insertion is designed better. The Ibanez bridges are inferior to both. Not all edges are made by Gotoh and almost none are near the quality of this unit. This is my opinion as a professional player and tech. Thanks for watching!

This video is a big mitake. What you are replacing is not an original Floyd Rose, it's just a licensed one. Maybe that way the Gotoh is better, but the block seems to be rather cheap. If you want sustain, you don't have to... but you must replace the block with a big brass one.
@OrenSharonx
@OrenSharonx 5 жыл бұрын
By writing Floyd I meant the system, not the actual manufacturer (same method anyway). The Gotoh has a brass block, but a block alone does not add much sustain as you may think. I say that as a guitar maker with experience. The main reason for upgrading this bridge is the stability, smoothness, high performance, and comfort, sound, and also sustain, which does not come only from the block alone- also from the saddle material, the grip and the improved studs. Cheers!
