If you’re accepting small criticisms, I would tie down those blue and red cables from the battery banks near the enclosure. That's probably another reason to use 48 volts though right? 192 volts DC is more my idea of getting power from multiple batteries - just like my pro Riello 6kVA UPS! The thing about these small cells in a large pack is if one cell goes bad how do you find it or replace it. I am thinking it is much easier to build packs using larger cells that are now available. Building packs with hundreds of 18650 cells seems tedious and unnecessary this day and age.
@HBPowerwall4 жыл бұрын
Don't forget i started this process 4 years ago. 18650 cells scale perfectly from 4 cells to 40,000 cells. Anyone from any economic group can build this to suit their needs from a led light to do home work in a remote town in Africa to a whole house setup because I can in Brisbane Australia. New large scale cells come with a high price tag that limmits their ROI.. My time is spent well building these. DIY is diy for a reason.
@ryzenuser01414 жыл бұрын
hi! my understanding is, there is an upside of using a zillion small cells in parallel instead of larger, more expensive units. when a few of these smaller capacity cells get weaker you wouldn need to find and replace them immediately coz overall you'll lose a fraction of an amp with a few weakened cells in a pack of hundreds of them. with time when your pack's cell death rate hits double digit percentage or overall capacity becomes too low only then you may need to rebuild.

Hey from the video u said u installed 14 250watt panels on the pcm60x thats 3500watts of solar. From the pcm60x manual its 3000watt charge controller... how does it deal with the extra wattage.... also from the manual it says its a 60amp charger so if you are charging a 24v battery you would only get alittle over 1500watts charging capacity from the pcm60x therefore you are never going to get the full 3500watts from the solar panels you are only getting half. Am i correct in assuming this is so? And if so why did you set up the system this way? Could have split up the panels between the pcm60x and the pip and you would get closer to the 3000watts charging power....

Could you elaborate, why you use a charge controller, when your inverter can charge your batteries as well (maybe you can go over that in a video???)? I have my first 7 packs ready and want to go ahead with ordering an inverter but I want to understand why you use a charge controller instead of the inverter to charge your packs. Thanks!!!
@HBPowerwall5 жыл бұрын
I use the MPP Solar PCM60X charger controllers cause they work! That's not an affiliated linked or sponsored comment it's the fact they really do work and stood the test of time. Its Heat... in summer it gets a touch hot over her in Aussie land so keeping head separate to the inverters is a great idea when an air-con gets left on for days and days at a time along with the normal house loads and cooking. THAT said it would be more efficient to use the internal charge controler as it's much more efficient as the PIP inverters will use solar power first so there is less energy 'inverted' so to speak. NOW this setup it's because of the limmited size of the PWM charger controller in the PIP2424HS & those fans are a touch too small for that unit.
@ILoveOpenSourceSoftware5 жыл бұрын
@@HBPowerwall thanks for your response. So if I understand you correctly it is not necessary just recommended because of environmental conditions in Australia. Remote monitoring coming ? I'm a freak for safety and would pop those packs into a metal case , eg she's goes up it just roasts the box, but looks like a tin shed anyway :)
@HBPowerwall5 жыл бұрын
All metal shed, 1cm metal floor, mini orb metal walls - inside a shed only lined with wood where the powerwall is & 5l of generator fuel is stored lol (for now) remote monitoring is hard as every thing is steel and messes with wifi & internet is so intermittent it's useless - wind changes direction and it drops out

Gravity is, potentially, the inventor's enemy. Suggestion: don't mount your battery packs vertically - lay them flat horizontally - despite conventional wisdom?

mounted them this way for 6 plus years - works flawlessly - saves space, looks good, easy to test, replace or repair battery.

@@HBPowerwall Never Mind Bro... i like what you do with all your energy storage ... little fancy but its ok ... people still dont get it - that everything is solar powered - even all the gasoline engines - it is the sunpower from millions of years ago - why not use the sun directly in everthing - tesla is goning the right way and im excited about the new cell type that they have presented on the Tesla Battery day 2020 ... nice nice nice!!! In fact everything comes from the sun even all the gold - you know in australia very well what is the gold business all about and were it came from ... it comes from a sun-supanova ... our first sun collapsing and with that much force it forced atoms to 79 ... that is why you can produce syntetic diamonds but you cant produce syntetic Gold Baby ... nobody has that much power - only Nature has ... better is
