My Nascar Tech teacher was one of Heavy D's old Monster Jam crew chiefs, and he spoke very highly of Heavy D, said he's a really genuine guy in person and really smart and hands on with this stuff. He even said that Heavy D helped him fix the monster truck in the mud.

Thank you for being you Heavy and Dave, you guys are truly an inspiration. I haven’t seen or had fun like this since my head on accident (in 2014), or when I developed a severe case of PTSD due to survivors guilt. This stuff is very real and can happen to anyone in an instant, cherish your loved ones people, and always pay attention to the road, especially the back roads.

I’m known as the power guru in the electric world. I think you need to add an actual floating suspension on it to keep the tracks from bouncing you off of it as you gain speed making it a little safer off road. Toe cups on the board for slippy conditions and possibly a step in back boot safety latch that locks your not in as you step into it but released as soon as you step out of it,(in case you flip it or fall off it will release without down pressure). The electric motor will definitely be an upgrade and make it easier to adjust the power you can put to it evenly. Offsetting your drive down to the skid plate will lessen that drive line angle and give you more room for suspension travel. Then it’s a matter of staying away from a conventional battery system and adding high flow coils and power storage capacitor to actually give it a turbo power up on the flat ground or large steep climbs to be able to turn it up on the fly and get the power and performance you want in a pinch.

I would try fitting a 2-stroke go-cart engine (100-200cc). Good power to weight ratio. If you really want to get crazy, use a wet clutch, air cooked dirt bike 2-stroke so you can select gears for different applications.
@jpreziose
@jpreziose Жыл бұрын
A 2 stroke will be far to week. But it did remind me that there are old jet ski engines that are 2 stroke witch would be crazy cause u can get like 100 hp out of them. Unfortunately they don't put them in anything new so it would only be a used old engine but that doesn't really matter as long as u find one
@djnord5570
@djnord5570 Жыл бұрын
@jonathan preziose There are plenty of 2-stroke cart engines in the 30 hp range at a "whopping" 125cc, compared to the 225cc of that 6.6 hp predator...

That would be far too much power straight away for being on tracks, we have a kz2 (125cc) that is ridiculous on dirt to say the least, I personally think a 4stroke would be best, smooth power all round, they're lightweight, there's plenty of 4stroke dirtbike engine options, just depends on how much power they want. 4strokes also have the torque to travel through snow...
@cs652806

A power band on that thing would be sketchy. Need something with low end torque. Electric would definitely be the best for something like this.

This is AWESOME. I think keeping it lightweight/small/simple as possible is key. Going electric would add too much weight. You're right, there are tons of mods out there for those little briggs&straton motors. You can definitely make it better with more power and minimum weight increase over stock. Whether it would be enough to move the machine with bigger, upgraded track assemblies is another question answered only by continued public experimentation! I'm a fan! Do I smell a collab with Grind Hard Plumbing Co???? Northern Idaho ain't that far.

electric of this size could be as light as that motor. the main weight of electric cars is the massive range, but if theyre only gonna go 10-20 miles you can fit that in like 10 lbs of battery + a couple pounds of motor. also i doubt that open belt next to his leg is all that safe. either way its a beautiful creation that I wish i had the money to make. (and ability that things advanced asf)

Here's the secret to using those small diesel engines, change your driver/clutch spring!! More sensitive springs engage while the torque curve is stronger. I have a 196cc diesel and I changed springs and gearing and it worked wonders. Also oil is cheap, buy some good Zinc small engine oil and engines will last longer!!!

Hey Dave ,I love the "Concept Mountain Board" !! Myself and a Buddy have built a few prototypes of similar type ,gone through multiple engines of Diesel ,Gas and even went "WAY OVER THE TOP CRAZY" with an "EXPERIMENTAL" Alcohol Injected 30HP Racing Cart Engine....and after melting a hole through the top of a $70 piston for the 4th time ,I changed EVERYTHING from that point on ,to "INRUNNER " Brushless Electric Motors ,Powered By LiPo Batteries ,(Actually made for RC Aircraft ) and the difference was like "Night and Day" ! Just My opinion ,but ,I would go that route or "POWER", I GUARANTEE You'll Be Blown Away By The Difference ! And Here's Where The Old DRAG RACERS Theory Of "SPEED COSTS MONEY, So How Fast You Wanna Go ?"Comes In To Play.... They're EXTREMELY PRICEY" And Very Temperamental If You Don't Have Experience With Them.... Anyway ,"GOOD LUCK " with the board !

Yep, I was going to recommend checking out Red Beard's Garage YT channel, They are building one and testing the mods on a dyno so you can see what they actually do. So far it looks like a slider carb, exhaust, billet flywheel (with stock timing), and governor removal gets it up around 12 hp. Which is pretty good for a single cylinder HF engine.

4 electric motors (one for each wheel) and a controller would give you great control and flexibility for the rig, The battery would be a bit of a problem but a neat possible solution would be to use cells integrated into the base platform. The electronic control of speed and direction of each independent motor would give you mind boggling possibilities. Quiet and mechanically simple.

That things pretty sick! But, I noticed that those 2 lovejoy couplings you showed didnt have spiders in them.. hope you guys get those for it before the coupling halves wear out and / or break and have to be replaced constantly if they aren't worn out already. Just a thought from a factory maintenance guy that uses them on about half our equipment on site.

After watching this a few times that speed seemed fine for a bord on tracks considering it's for snow that would be fun as is. Definitely straighten out the drive shaft more and tune your clutch, also cover the engine for safety, however if your wiring up any power I worked at black diamond electric if you ever need any help wiring up power I'm all in👊😎

Also, when you guys go electric, use 1 motor per wheel, that way you can cut out all the driveline drag! Batteries go in the ends on top of the board, use 1 ESC per motor and use a 4 way gimbal to control the movement of the ESCs's along with powered turning like a dozer.

That is a crazy contraption, but I love the reasons and the engineering!

I like the 2 scooter motor and battery setup idea, one for the front and one for the back or one for the left and one for the right? That oughta give ya some power on that board huh? Plus it kinda fits the vibe of that thing anyways

The mountain board needs a 2- stroke. Little 80 cc or 125 would be 🔥

Now that the mountain board is back. I could see y'all building a diesel go cart that's four wheel drive like what RatherBWelding does... That would be cool to see what you guys come up with!

HeavyDSparks+: The better method of workable power is a hi-torque electric motor, _assuming_ you have enough _'lectricity_ to power the thing/board for longer than 15-20 minutes of continuous operation/use. That means a battery pac of some description... The problem w/ battery pacs is, *obviously* , weight. Or, as your name sez, *_HEAVYD_* (amn things that) *_SPARK_* , particularly if you hook up the _wrong_ wire(s)! Solve the problem of _'lectricity_ supply for the motor and you got it. That said, "good luck", plus, _good video!_ When can we see the continuation??? 🤔🤔🤔
