A chair pressure sensor opens up a lot of automation. Also, you don't need a fancy pressure sensor for it either. Your weight will cause travel on the chairs piston, so a magnet read switch is enough. Just make it wireless.

Hmm, standing desk. How sensitive are those vibration sensors and their reactive time outs. Some people don't move much, but the mouse and the keyboard will vibrate the desk one can be installed under the desk. Downside trains, heavy traffic, low flying aircraft, that guy who thinks everyone wants to hear his music but only the bass of it as he drives by will also trigger it if too sensitive. If there is a hydraulic thin and wide pressure sensor that can go under the floor mat that the chair and when standing will trigger, then you're good to go. But ya guys, he brought up the pressure sensor in his chair and didn't mention a standing desk, so I didn't give a solution for one. He can add a pressure switch to the swing arm of his cockpit recliner lounging desk that triggers 3/4s through its closing. (Figured I get ahead of that one). I have no solutions for the bed... a laptop? Sorry, I have an 11 month old that doesn't like when Daddy leaves the room, and I'm a bit irritable.

This is absolutely awesome, every video you make on the oled tv makes me want one more. Burn in is one of the primary downsides and I have already been brainstorming ways to get around it before I get one of these panels, but this solution is so awesome I might just pull the trigger soon.

burn in is really a non issue for oleds. ive had mine for almost 2 years, with HEAVY use for mainly gaming, and i havent had a single instance of burn in. the only slightly annoying thing that occasionally happens to me is sometimes i get weird image retention, but it always goes away within seconds, and never happens in any games due to the nature of how they work. if burn in is the only thing holding you back from getting an oled, i would just get one, burn in is honestly, so rare and hard to actually get that i would consider it a myth at this point. i think the only way you can genuinely get actual pixel burn in on a tv is by purposefully trying to get burn in by leaving the tv on a static image for like multiple days or weeks in a row. its an actual non issue outside of that.

If you pull out your Full Owners manual and scroll down to "EXTERNAL CONTROL DEVICE SETUP" the TV has a serial port in the form of 3.5MM audio jack. The manual tells you how to wire a DB9 to it, and the entire protocal and the OP Codes for the things you can controll, including Screen Off appears to be: Energy Saving (Command: j q) Data 05. That should completely remove the need for the home automation and wifi connections.

Great video! For those who also like to watch the screen from afar kinda like a TV, I recommand pressing Windows + Tab and clicking on another blank "desktop" when leaving to act as a screen saver. Just be aware that notifications from Discord or Steam will reveal the task bar and that you need a black wallpaper to begin with

Some NEC office monitors have this feature built in. They call it "human detection" and it's based on IR reflection as well as ambient light level. You can set the distance of detection so it won't trigger at office chair. It blanks out screen so when you return to the desk after short time it returns quite quickly.

I've been using an OLED tv as a monitor for five years now. Burn in is completely overblown. Granted, my desktop is dark and I never leave it on a large white background, but I do that on all my monitors anyway, because bright white is distracting and gets even more annoying in a dim room. The OLED tv also dims automatically when no movement is detected on screen after a couple minutes. I leave the TV on while idling for hours at a time, leaving the room or house, with no issues. I also have 8+ hrs of screen on time on all my OLED phones on a daily basis. Never seen burn in in my life.

Great idea. I was thinking about a similar thing, but I was planning on emulating the IR remote of the TV with an IR LED to do this. There's a "Screen Off" option in the menu of the TV (you can put it to the side bar shortcuts which gets shown when you press the cog on the remote) which does the same as the Blank Screen Saver, and the screen resumes if you press the back arrow again. You might also be able to improve the accuracy of room presence detection by combining the mmWave sensor with a PIR sensor. The mmWave would improve the speed of detection, but the PIR could smooth out issues originating from "through the wall" detection. (The "Everything Presence One" does this for example). Then the only thing I would miss is an auto switching capability between my desktop and notebook... :)

another simple solution would be to add camera with face detection, like on phone screen that unlock our phones. one thing is, it needs to be ON throughout and watch your face for eyes open so it can keep the screen ON otherwise turns it off if at all you just need to listen to some music. easy to suggest but you need some really good software to back it up

Aqara FP1 sensor, it will know your position on the room, it doesn’t matter if you are moving or not. It’s kinda slow to detect so, movement to turn off and millimeter wave to know if turn off, or change input to PS if you sit on the couch for example.

One solution could be using Bluetooth or some other form of wireless connectivity. Limiting the power to the module will cause low range giving you the same effect and should work with either sit or standing desks. The downside is needing your phone charged but in this day and age I don't think that's an issue for most. Another would be leaving your phone near your desk but I guess that could also be a feature if you ever wanted the screen to stay on.

Still the screensaver should work pretty good like just a black picture and making sure it's really getting as 0 nits on the TV all pixels will be off, it sure would consume more power than standby mode but with all pixels off will probably be very low, just not good if you keep not using the PC for many hours, but then again for that is just better to use sleep mode on the PC as long as it's doing nothing... ps: Anyway that looks like a cool fun project, but I really simply prefer how monitors work just moving my mouse makes them come back pretty quick and goes into a deep standby low power mode.
