Thanks for the video. I’m thinking of buying the K 40 and buying the air assist with it and your video made it look a lot easier to install that air assist so I’m very grateful.

Oh my goodness - this was awesome. I've had one of the air assists for awhile, but haven't even tried to install it (partially no time, but partially just scared to mess it up). I'll probably be one of the ones that just puts on half of it. Thanks for the tip of it actually unscrewing. I've not seen that anywhere. EDIT: Scratch that - I just went ahead and switched it all out. I had new lenses for both of them so it just made sense. Do you happen to have a video/picture on where you mounted the air assist 3D bracket?
@woogaloo
@woogaloo 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that - bracket wasn't the correct word. Whatever the thing is called that your air assist hose is inside of (the black links). Where did you mount the other end of it? Thanks.

A question from a total noob. So much so, I haven't even received my K40 yet. What does changing to an 18mm lens do for you. I'm just assuming it sharpens the cut beam?

I would say it's in the alignment. make sure the opening to mirror 3 (in the head) is pointing directly at mirror 2 for starters.

I have been struggling with poor-quality laser heads since buying a laser. The head slowly unscrews itself. Tightening metal to metal simply does not work. I have a basic model, any recommendation where to buy a better head?

Machine Tech for nearly 30 years- use regular clear silicone as a "loctite". I've used this in dirty environments with vibrations and it works great. Best part is it's removable and doesn't damage aluminum threads.

I've sort of taken over maintenance of the laser where I work trying to transform it from a toy to a tool. I'm learning all this stuff by the seat of my pants here and thanks for the help. I've heard a lot of people say convex side down. Only you say convex up. What is the reasoning ? I already found soot baked onto the lens. Fortunately it came off with a lot of isopropyl and cotton balls. I think I will try an air assist mod. We usually just use the machine for plastic labels and signage for the machines we build. Would air assist help with plastic? I may use it for wood also.

You`ve said "curved side up"? That means "belly" of the mirror up or..? Mine stock lens was opposite side and worked more than 2 years 😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈 What's the difference? Any better or worse result? 😬

The mirrors that came with my K40 are plastic with a mirrored surface on one side. Total junk. Got CU mirrors to replace them. As to your statement about the way to place the lens, I think I'll follow Russ' directions after having watched his videos that are quite in depth about lenses. Don't know about you, but he has a lot of history with commercial laser systems before getting his "toys" at home.
