Actually, the reason its only running at 600mhz is because the FSB is set to 100mhz. If you set it to 133, you'll get the full 733mhz. Also, adding a CPU fan is a definite must for such a cpu
@ViperJay54 жыл бұрын
@BrackynMor Yep, it's the bus speed that is throttling down the machine. It's more than likely the RAM is running at 100MHz aka PC100 RAM which will automatically make the FSB be cut down from 133 to 100. I'd definitely look for PC133 RAM, double sided 256MBs to be exact. Usually single sided 256MB sticks didn't work with older machines like this.

"600E" is actually the processor model. The E suffix indicates a Coppermine Pentium III, built on the 180 nm process, to differentiate it from the earlier Katmai core (250 nm). B means 133 MHz FSB. So, the CPU you just installed is a Pentium III 733EB, the BIOS reports 600E likely because your motherboard doesn't support the 133 MHz FSB speed and is running at just 100 MHz.
@MichaelMJD4 жыл бұрын
The full model name is actually just the Pentium III 733. This specific CPU's s-spec number is SL4M8. It appears that the system is only recognizing it as a 600E CPU as it only runs at 600 MHz. And yes, the Bus speed seems to be the issue here.

You definitely need a BIOS flash from P03 to P06. Is the Northbridge an 810, or an 810E chipset ?... This can make a difference as the base 810 doesn't support 133 MHz, but the 810E does. Did you try _hard_ resetting the CMOS Battery Jumper to fully clear the FSB and Multiplier ?? Whitney Northbridge supposedly only supports a Clock Multiplier maximum of 9.0x, so that 1000 MHz chip will likely never run. Or at least not at full speed, even if a BIOS update does add the correct Microcode to recognize it. Though getting 900 Mhz in this machine would still be amazing. If it is actually an 810E chipset with 133 MHz support, with a BIOS update you might be able to get a 1000EB to run full speed (SL4C8, SL4MF, SL52R, SL5B3, SL5DV, SL5FQ, SL4WM). Or even a 1133 MHz (SL5B2, SL4YV) End Of Line. But have fun trying to hunt down the best sSpec unicorn to work in a locked OEM mobo !... You should have an impressive collection of chips later if you do go down this rabbit hole.

The problem is the tualatin > 1.0GHz cpus which only run in select hardware. CPU adapters exist and occasionally they let you run a > than 1G in a normal mobo. There also exists a guy from Korea on ebay that hacked the 1.4GHz cpus. Type "1.4GHz pentium III socket adapter" into ebay. It's not actually a socket adapter though; it's a hack. Check to see if both RAM modules are PC133, if even 1 is PC100, your FSB will be throttled down from 133 to 100MHz. But in older machines like this, usually if you wanted to use 256MBs of RAM, you must find the double sided modules as the single sided modules generally only worked in later machines. I know for a fact my Dell Optiplex GX110 was picky like this but it was able to handle the SL52R 1GHz processor, no problem, as long as both RAM modules were PC133.

I gotta drag its twin upstairs (ugh, it's really heavy -- tricked out with every add-on card known to man) and see what can be done with it. Lots of BIOSs of that era, you have to manually set a speed higher than the CPU's minimum default, or it'll run at its slowest supported speed. CPU auto-detect was not yet reliable, or more often entirely absent. It may also have a jumper that needs setting for the higher bus speed, or may be limited by PC100 RAM (try PC133 in it). I have another one that's similar, same era, that will always come up at 500MHz, and you have to go into BIOS and tell the dumb thing that it is actually 800MHz. Some of 'em just did not remember from one boot to the next. Seen this enough times to think it's a bug from that transitional era when CPUs finally got past the early 440BX barrier (usually 550MHz). And if you want to unload that 1GHz CPU... I know a P3 that would love to have it. :D

celeron coppermine 566 cd0 stepping is the funniest celeron ever made because after covering bsel1 and bsel2 pins on the cpu it can run either at 850mhz or 1,14ghz i had 2 of them and both of them had dual cpu pin active so they could even run in dual cpu board also 1,5V core and very cold chips, they didn't require overvolting or big coolers for 1,14ghz overclock i810 is kind of unfortunate chipset, still it have qdr chipset link but it is teoreticaly limited to 100bus and no agp i would check the power suply because early pentium 3 coppermines like to hog power on 5V rail and some power suplies simply don't like that via apollo 133 t chipsets would take up to 2gb of ram and up to 1,7ghz overclocked tualatin celerons by the way

I also have a Socket 370 PIII 1GHz. I need the right Slocket to fit it into my Slot 1 rdram board.

If the FSB can hit 133 and it's a 733Mhz chip, you should be able to get 800.

I'm going to just go ahead and watch this video... and now I'm going to go ahead and make a comment to ask if this was made by the manager from Office Space.

I doubt the CPU is maxed out. That CPU is underclocked probably because of the limited FSB speed your i810 chipset is limited to. If you can't use the 1GHz Pentium 3 it may be because its not properly supported by your current BIOS, but maybe Gateway have released updates to support this CPU ?

Check the MB FSB Jumpers to run at 133mhz otherwise it only use 100mhz of FSB
