Something else to think about, your DC/DC converter is going to have to stand up to the extra demand of the pump to keep the 12 volt battery happy. I suppose you will size it accordingly.

I asked you about this type of system when you were doing the Nissan’s steering. I really like it, any noise it creates seems well worth it, given you don’t need to modify the column and aren’t increasing the input torque to the rack. If I was capable of a project like this, I would pick this system.👍

Those power supplies usually aren't rated for the kind of current needed for a large pump motor. If it draws 50 amps, I am used to seeing like 30 amps MAX from a power supply. That kit seems like a really nice and simple solution for cars that already had a fluid pump installed. It would be interesting to see if they could change the pump speed based on a vehicle speed signal to vary the feel of the steering. Unlike the original system, the new one could be "tuned" to improve the feel at all speeds. Great content!

I thought the tech guy calling your power supply "a piece of junk" was kind of harsh, but I totally appreciate that you got routed to obviously American English speaking tech support. You really don't see that very often. It's really tough to troubleshoot something from halfway around the world without trying to sort out what some Asian Indian or Chinese tech support person is trying to tell you in some thick accent. Kudos on getting this running. A forty five amp fuse is pretty high, but if it works, that's what counts.

Dropping in an EPS from a Prius or other models that use the same thing in-line in the column is cleaner and no doubt cheaper - I did that in my Lexus LS and it works really well - just a couple wires - power, ground and key. its small and under the dash so a very clean installation.

I've had a couple cars that sensed road speed and reduced the power assist at higher speeds. It gave you the same feel while parking or on the freeway or perhaps just a little heavier at high speeds which made for better stability. Much better then some other cars that get almost squirrelly.

How does the steering angle sensor ‘key’ onto the shaft?
@electricsupercar12 күн бұрын
I believe itil is an electromagnetic field sensor that detects the rotation of the shaft inside. There is no "key" but it does need to sense the rotation so it needs to be fixed and allow the shaft to spin inside.
