Was it State Murder or an accident? The Crown Piince of Sikkim. Tenzing Kunzang Jigme Namgyal, was killed in an automobile accident Saturday in the Sikkimese capital of Gangtok. He would have been 26 years old yesterday. Prince Tenzing left Cambridge University in. England in 1973 before graduation and returned to Sikkim to help his father, who was the Chogyal, or ruler. Palden Thandup Namgyal. Both had maintained that independence was the most vital issue in Sikkim, but the tiny Himalayan kingdom was annexed by India in 1975. Last week. India's Prime Minister, Morarji R. Desai, apologized for the takover of Sikkim but said was irreversible. The Prince was educated at St. Paul's School in Darjeeling and at Harrow in England before entering Cambridge in 1971. He studied economics and had hoped to return to Cambridge this year. Since 1973, he had been setting up farm projects and promoting his coun try's economic development. He participated in soccer and archery and was thought of by many of the young in his country as their spokesman.

Interesting archival footage. The young prince is so calm, composed and articulate under such circumstances. I was thinking more young historians from Sikkim would be interested to view this. I'm a neighbour from Darjeeling who arrived from Hong Kong just as Sikkim was in turmoil in the mid-1970's. Moved to Nepal after the 1986 Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling and found myself in the midst of the Maoist insurgency which toppled the 240 year old monarchy in Nepal. Can't ceremonial monarchy co-exist with a robust democracy ? Good or bad, they are part of centuries old heritage of the Himalayan region; I really admire the British for this. The young prince puts it simply, "Times they are changing, and we have to move with the changing of times." I think I should move to Bhutan now !!!!

Our King Birendra tried his best to save Sikkim by inviting their Chogyal during his coronation ceremony in Nepal in 1975 B.S. to discuss about the UN membership because more than 60 nations' head of states were present in Nepal for attending King's coronation. However, we could do nothing, we are so sorry cause we didn't have that much strong army in 1975. Yo mujiharu le hamro contribution and kosis kaile bujhdainan. This were very difficult (1970-1975) times for Sikkim independence. The Secret agencies from many world countries were still interested for Sikkim kingdom.The Destruction of Sikkim state independence by India is still the shame of proclamed Indian democracy to this day 16th May 1975. Let´s Know history of Sikkim kingdom that help us to better understand the also destruction of independence present states at present day. Also in Europe.

India took advantage of the weakness of the Sikkimese people and grabbed the opportunity to call it the 22nd State of the Union.But very dishonestly and selfishly DID NOT REUNIFY Darjeeling Dooars region even though they knew it very well that the region belonged to Sikkim but India favoured Bengal which collects huge revenue from the region. And that is bullying and suppressing the people of the region.

If they Reunify then all the revenue money currently going to Bengal will come to Sikkim and within a short period Sikkim will be financially self sufficient. Currently Bengalis are bullying Sikkim by jamming or stopping the vehicle movemrnts on the National Highway, with a flimsy excuse of Riots and agitation, but if the region is reunified then Sikkim solely will be in controll of the National Highway from Nepal to Bhutan and the Chicken Neck Corridor to North East Sectors. Then Darjeeling will also be free from Bengali COLONIZATION to call the Reunified region the Bharatiya Gorkhali State. That solves the political,economical and geographical as well as social problems faced by the people of the region. But to succeed, the leaders from both Sikkim and Darjeeling MUST SACRIFICE PRIDE,GREED,FEAR,AND SELFISHNESS AND COME UNITEDLY.

@@aryanpokharel1181 no offnese to you bro but at the time of 1975 neplese migrant had already pushed the natives to minority of just 20% and the so called referndum was conducted mostly in east, south of sikkim where migrant are in thicker in desity( yes only 50% of popualtion could voted on referendum). and there was every reason for neplese to vote in favour of india because being the migrant with such huge no were always seen threat to native population by natives and neplese migrant in return would throw out native monarchy at any cost to safegaurd their place sikkim, which you guys succeded and sucessfully sold out sold out its dignified sovereignity.

Why afraid of China ? It has not harmed Bhutan ? China is richer and more powerful than India and respects independence of smaller neighboring countries and helps in their development like in Nepal, whereas, India prides itself for having fought to obtain independence from Britain but it itself took away the independence of thousand times smaller and weaker country Sikkim even that by faulty tricks of fake referrendum. In fact the truth is that in the first election the people voted to remain independent country under the King. But India said it was unfairly conducted so they had a second election in which India bribed Lendup Dorje and his gang and bought the vote to make it look like 97% voted to merge with India. That is how India cheated and robbed tiny Kingdom Sikkim whose majority population are the Gurkhali people. Even after taking over the country in 1975 India has not been honest with the Sikkimese because the portion of Darjeeling Dooars region lying between the borders of Bhutan in the east to Mechi River of Nepal in the west has NOT been REUNIFIED even though knowing very well that these regions belong to Sikkim and were left by the British in 1947 as EXCLUDED AREA meaning NOT PART OF INDIA. But in 1954/55 the Congress Govt. ,of India did not stop West Bengal to create its own ÀBSORBED ACT. and illegally swallowed the region. If India really is a DEMOCRATIC country and member of the UN Charter then it should Reunify Darjeeling Sikkim and declare the region as Bharatiya Gorkhali State. That would satisfy all Indian Gorkhali people and give back their distinct identity and dignity as Indian Gorkhalis. But NO, India only wants the land and treats the majority population as aliens (foreighnors). CAN INDIA DO THAT ? IF NO, THEN ITS A BIG SHAME BOASTING TO CLAIM ITSELF AS THE BIGGEST DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY WITH EQUAL TREATMENT TO ITS CITIZENS. BUT THE FACT IS SHAMELESSLY QUITE THE OPPOSITE, BECAUSE INDIA HAS BOUGHT ALL THE HIGHLY INTELLECTUAL PEOPLE OF THE REGION WHO FOR SAVING THEIR POSITIONS ARE MADE TO SPEAK AGAINST REUNIFICATION OF SIKKIM DARJEELING WITH FLIMSY EXCUSES LIKE DEFENSIVELY STRATEGIC AND SENSITIVE REGION AS IF THE GORKHAS CANNOT DEFEND THEIR OWN TERRITORY. .
