Really cool that they are being more open about where they are and what they hope to achieve. Good video

they've always had big in-depth technical talks since Oculus and the first 5 years of Facebook ownership. This is more open than last year, less open than before 2020.

Who knew VR would be so complicated, but all I can say is THANK YOU. I knew and imagined this would happen the first time I played Wolfenstein all those years ago. In other words this all has been a dream come true. Please keep it up.

There really was a time where I would wonder "why does Mark Zuckerberg go to work everyday? Is optimizing ads and accidentally fueling further societal divide really that fulfilling?" And then he bought Oculus and took it to new heights, fast forward to providing customers Oculus Quest 2 at the price point we are used to, accelerating the technology and affordability that would have otherwise taken much much longer, it's great to see where it's all heading next, and lastly, you can see he's genuinely excited about it.

5 years likely won’t be mind blowing. Give it 15-20. We’ll have better locomotion and forced feedback systems by then. The headset potential discussed in this video likely won’t be in the average consumer hands within 5 years. His words not mine. He estimated 6 years and said “potentially towards the end of the decade”

Don't need to be at 10,000 nits for HDR on a VR headset because it's not competing against outside light like a TV/laptop/phone.
@probablybobross5790
@probablybobross5790 2 жыл бұрын
There are 2 reasons why it is so high. VR displays operate at a 10% duty cycle which reduces the actual brightness you see, that and optics reduce that even further. There are more reasons and better explanations for sure our there but those are the main 2 reasons I know why VR headsets especially HDR are pushing for higher nits.

@Beep2bleep 2 жыл бұрын
@@probablybobross5790 No watch the tested video. It's 10000 nits AFTER cutting down. So I guess it started around 1000000 nits since they said they only get 1% through.
@Beep2bleep
@Beep2bleep 2 жыл бұрын
Well obv. you don't need it to see well as our current VR hmds are 100 nits. But the concept is if you get to nearly normal indoor lighting 0 - 10k it looks more real. The tested video described it as the different of looking at a picture of a bright light vs looking at a bright light.
@probablybobross5790

@@Beep2bleep haven't seen it yet planing on checking it out soon, just explaining why nit count is partially so high, though yeah seems like if they going for 10000 nits after seems interesting at least.
