This video convinced me to order that 85gr Arsenal mould. I also ordered their 257-420 BT mould. Im going to have the 420 mould altered into Hollow point for hunting. 5 week waiting on Arsenal moulds. Awesome shooting love your video's. Im considering buying the Texan duel gauge Regulater from TT. But still on the fence about it.

Sorry man, not being a troll or a "hater" but that looked like a miss! It struck definitively below the ball. You can see the impact point on the pedestal. Anyway, nothin but respect and that was EXTREMELY close... but I'm in the lead with the ball breaking at 307 yards. :P All in good sportsmanship!
@UpNorthAirGunner5 жыл бұрын
Good shooting man! That is NUTS with pellets. I get it man - the shot I submitted needs some hard review. I had to go back to Chairgun and 3 others ballistics apps to try and see if I hit it mathematically and send the data to other in our community to calculate the final trajectory. If nothing else - the 330 yard shot will be fun to debate. They asked for all the data and info I had on the shot and asked that I submit it. I haven't set the video as public yet as I am using it in another video. But you can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGSZaZeZqpVrZ5o
@UpNorthAirGunner5 жыл бұрын
Also - I have been showing people your shot from the first Long Rangers Challenge a few years ago to show them a grazing shot can and does happen. I have had multiple hit the ball and not break it and your 309 yard shot before is a good example of how these balls can be hit without breaking.
@WeissRC5 жыл бұрын
@@UpNorthAirGunner Dude I totally feel your pain with the ball not breaking!! Believe me, been down that road! Haha. It just looked to me like your slug hit the pedestal very clearly (due to the impact mark). Nevertheless, if they accepted it as a hit it counts!
@UpNorthAirGunner5 жыл бұрын
@@WeissRC Oh I agree - it totally hit the post! I am not claiming that at all as it is very obvious. Quite honestly, the impact on the post is what allowed me to ballistically prove that I hit it using the angle of trajectory at impact by measuring the angle of impact with the dent. I reached out to a few trusted long range airgunners to check the math and each of them come up with around -120 degrees of trajectory angle at impact. So with a simple protractor measurement you can see that there is an intersection between the line of flight - the ball - and the impact on the post. When I first reviewed the video I though the small fragment that is falling away is a piece of the ball, but now I think it was a small piece of the lip on the post. I took a harder look at that lip the next day and sure enough - there was a small piece of the lip missing right in line with the dent on the post. Isn't ballistics awesome! This was some FBI level of review! I am using this follow up video in an upcoming video - but here is an early look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGm4mXelg8iJgqs

@dugdiamond4 жыл бұрын
Besides basically bolt on parts your Texan is basically stock? The barrels from airforce decent right out of the box! It appears many mom n pop slug manufacturers are selling many different .257 offerings. Are people buying these factory outta the box AF .257 Texans and able to shoot off the shelf slugs? It seemed that not long ago before the proliferation of people shooting air slugs , that this was a bit more involved than buying a gun and slugs off the shelf. That it neccesitated the the precise manufacture of a specific custom bullet that was of pure soft lead alloy. Such slug usually cast in molds precision ground or to within the tolerance of yet another custom matched sizing die that would be made to size the bullet to within precision of 5 millionths of what the slugged bore was to reveal.... 5 mils correct? As in .0005! so whatever your bore truly slugged out at, for pure cast lead required your .257 could be actually .2575 to .2579? Also what about the "lead -n" ... Does the stock barrel provide a decent lead in or does the average Joe consumer stuff whatever off the shelf slug fits? I am not too sure about these stock .257 and with what degree are they truly slug capable without some massage to consistently knock out 180 slugs up to 1050 ..... Back in the day 1050 w/180 grn 257 was really only the stuff of Noble modified valves with heavy hammers and big springs to pop the valve... I am very interested to see what a stock Texas is like? I imagine the cocking assembly is the greatest advantage and ya build upon it to shoot slugs with any prescision.
@UpNorthAirGunner4 жыл бұрын
The guts of this gun are bone stock and I am shooting slugs I cast myself. I use a hand sizer to swage them to .257 on the nose. Thanks for watching!
@dugdiamond4 жыл бұрын
@@UpNorthAirGunner Congrats! That's impressive. Where do you get your bullet mold and sizer? The stock oem Texan barrel is not choked like their other barrels? Nobody has polished the lead-in or bullet clearance on the breach end of the barrel. In otherwords there is enough clearance or "headspace" in the back of the barrel for any slug to fit when loaded without the slug being forced or started into the lands of the barrel? It seems that this Lead-in and how the bullet begins it's journey into it's flight through the barrel is as every bit critical as it is to the crowning at end of the barrel and how the bullet exits the barrel... I concur with you about 1050, seemed to be the speed to hit when shooting 188 gr Spitzer style of bullet. I believe it was an old antique and long discontinued Ideal mold with Gas Checks that Porter from Prescision Airgun Ammo had been dropping 188gr Spitzers that proved unreal accurate at 1050.... But it took me much work to get the gun up to speed, with Doug Noble orig handmade .257 specific valve . The breach cocking with heavier spring made for thumb fatigue in short order! It isn't easy getting slugs to consistently travel at up to this speed with what air that we have to work with.. You gotta hand it to those airgunners who created such a phenomena and widespread popularity with the .257! First Jack Haley, and then Roachcreek for intiating the Pepsi Challenge. But I believe the real widespread popularity must go out to Tofazfou and the work that Doug Noble/Dyotat have done to bring this to the Airforce Platform .... Doug should get a small percentage for every .257 Texan sold by Airforce!
@johnhansen67475 жыл бұрын
Sick shot! But no way it hit that ball that hard and didn't break it! It's a slug. And the huge lip on that pipe would stop it from hitting the body of the pipe if it had also nicked the ball. I think you need to rethink it. But still, sick shot!

Hey John - thanks for watching. I kind of knew this video would turn into the Long Ranger version of the JFK Magic Bullet / Zapruder film, soooo.... Here we go: #1 - That big lip is actually much smaller than the diameter of the ball. #2 - These balls have a very hard plastic cover and there are many other videos on KZbin of Long Ranger shots that have been made where the projectiles bounce off of the hard shell and leave large chunks taken out of the cover without explosion. #3 - I wish I would have put an extended version of the slow motion impact clip in this final video because you can actually see the small chunk of the ball falling away from the ball. #4 - I also have a video clip of a shot I took later on at 350 yards that hit the post and the ball just falls off and doesn't shoot up in the air 20 feet. #5 - I wish I could post a screenshot here, but you can see clearly in the video if you go frame by frame the trajectory of the slug is clearly at the ball and deflects off the front of the ball to hit the post. PM me here and I think I can send you the screenshot or hit me up on Facebook in private message.

I'm not denying your skill...but after that many shots...is it just luck?
@UpNorthAirGunner5 жыл бұрын
Big Kahoona To answer your question... Academically / statistically yes there is “luck” involved but it’s more of a statistical gamble shot to shot vs. “luck”. Here is why... no one can predict wind with 100% accuracy in those kind of conditions. What you don’t see in this video is I’m was trying to time the lulls in the wind but I got caught in different winds between me and the target a few times. So yes - statistical “luck” comes into play when the flight time is that long or longer. Furthermore - what if I presented this video in a way where my intended goal was to hit the plate. If that’s the case I rang steel over 90% of these shots. Aim small - miss small.

So to your point... Not necessarily. I have shot dozens (and that isn't an exaggeration) of these AGD exploding golf balls and hitting them or grazing them with a pellet or slug with no explosion does happen. Don't take my word for it - here is the video of my uncle's long ranger attempt at 150 yards where it hit the top of the ball pushing the ball downward and falling off the post with no explosion. The rifle used has 100 FPE more power and was less than half the distance closer. But it didn't explode! Watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4SniHWqhcaFZ7c

Can't really get the point in this video since you didn't even hit that ball. You should definedly keep making videos on distances you can really say the gun delivers not just damn luck. Dont really take any skill to shoot endless ammount of bullets to target and go YEAAAH after 25362attemps. No hate at all Im my self running with. 257texan arsenal 257388 and SPA M10 with 222rem barrel and 51gr spitzer from that. All I say is ur videos would be more interesting to watch if it would be on more suitable ranges shooting smaller targets for example. I find it hard to get why you Americans keep shooting 3shot groups instead of 10shot but I assume thats also some difference between ppl in US vs ppl in EU. Self-deception is worst! Peace and love
