I love my Texan 257, I have a stock Texan 308 barrel for it also. The 257 & 308 share the same valve, & you can swap calibers with a simple barrel change. My 257 is laser beam accurate, in either caliber. I just ordered the Texan 457 CF & cant wait to get it.

Hi.Mr. shootingtargets.I always refer to your videos. I have a Texan 308 LSS and shoot it with 120gn and 155gn home cast with LEE MOLD and 44.75gn JSB pellets. I also want to hunt birds, but slugs are too powerful, and pellets don't catch bullets well, making them unsuitable for bird hunting. So I'm considering purchasing 257 barrels. I would like to know if shooting pellets with a 257 barrel is accurate, but I have never seen a video of shooting pellets with a TEXAN 257. I know that TEXAN is a slug gun. But there is a video of a TEAN 308 shooting pellets. If you know if TEXA 257 is accurate for pellets as well as slugs, please let me know.

I have a very hard time getting details about which caliber Texan is best. I Have seen Nick from NSA say the ONLY caliber he does not own is the .308 which I found interesting. He says the .257 and .457 are by far the best. One using less air and being more precise for long range the other the ultimate hunting rifle. I would only buy the original Texan bc I want the longer barrel, I can get an aftermarket supressor. Zan just released .457 BT slugs which is exciting bc Zan crushes the slug game!!! The lead is probably pure and very soft and those slugs will probably shoot great AND open up BIG on impact. Just based on that, I might lean towards the .457. I also do not have a tank to tether so that's an issue as well.

The initial issues with the 303 made it difficult.. I think they have it figured out just an FYI. Id say the .257 and 308 are about equal the 308 gets the BC advantage while the .257 gets the shot count and flat and speed advantage... Also the .257 does shoot pretty flat in comparison.

I love my 257 Texan, I do have the 308 barrel for it, since the 257 & 308 share the same valve. The 257 does shoot pretty flat, as does the 308. My 257 loved the now discontinued NSA 90gr HP slugs, it was right at 1000fps with those 90s, & they had a high BC. NSA Nielsen Specialty Ammo, really Neutered his 257cal line of slugs. He used to offer 7 different weight slugs in 257cal, now he only offers 2, the 65gr & 75gr slugs. I don't know why, mine loved the 70gr HP & 90gr HP slugs, & NSA doesn't make either anymore. Sucks. My 257 in 308 configuration punches a 110gr slug ,out at 1010fps giving me around 250fpe.

Here is test of .308 shooting a unreg-tethered setup at 50 yards using ww Lee .309 120 grn RN cast projectiles. Tethered bottle is a 30min SCBA filled to 3,000 psi. Groups seemed to start opening after about 55-60 shots. This represents typical accuracy for this rifle. Average groups size is about a quarter or slightly larger, good groups are dime size. This is a 34" standard rifle. Thought this might be helpful, just remember this is shooting on the "curve" using an unregulated air source. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYXHYqOjo96qY80

I asked a question before, but I haven't received a reply yet. I own a 308 LSS and shoot slugs, but I'm considering purchasing a 257 barrel and would like to know the accuracy of 25 caliber pellets. Could you please do a 55 yard shooting test and let me know?

They are ok, if remember it was like the 30 cal and the 308. So accuracy is just ok up to like 50 yards. If you are shooting say 25 yards, 50 yards you could probably tune the rifle WAY WAY down but remember the .257 is for slugs and it shoots HOT HOT. So i started noticing at 55 yards flyers and sprirals and all types of things going on with the pellets and I tried all types. Best thing I could say is between a .25 condor and a .257 I would take the condor for anything longer than say 50 yards. The tune and changes for the .257 is pretty drastic hope that makes sense. The best rifle for pellets in big bore is the .357 texan in my experience. Slugs and pellets out ot 100 yards. The .357 pellets were just more predictable when shooting at slower speeds.

The TEXAN257 has a good reputation as a long-range gun, so I was thinking of attaching a 257 barrel to the 308 LSS if it was as accurate as 25 cal for bird shooting. But if it's equivalent to 30 cal, it's a waste, so I'll stop this plan. thank you very much.

Have you tried running the 140’s hotter?

Not yet but will speed them up some. I am not sure the ss has enough juice to get them to the 900s stock but they show promise shooting that slow. Sadly these are like 70 cents a shot

@@ShootingTargets727 - they look amazing. And they appear to have a long bearing service which might help to stabilize. My rifle is a 34” non-SS model. My rifle seems to like longer slugs (>.600”) and weights above 113 grns in cast bullets but the 75 grn AVS slugs don’t do bad.

@@motorgearhead Yep, I have some 75 to 90 avs showing up. That seems like a nice all around slug for small pests to shooting longer distances but will see. The 140 grain would be nice bug again super expensive and you need power...

@@ShootingTargets727 - I purchased a NOE mold for a 270 grn .458 with a very pointy nose. I’ve not had any luck with them yet although they have a bc of .3+.
