So this pain just started for me when I raised my arms and stretched them kind of backwards. It was sudden and very sharp. Is there any at home treatment for this?
@whiplashz313 жыл бұрын
It sounds as if you caused an extension misalignment or strain/sprain. Try placing a soccer ball or basketball sized ball behind you and in front of a chair back while sitting in the chair try to flex your upper back and then push your upper body backwards over the ball (fulcrum) while maintaining the flexed position. While pushing your back over the ball allow your spine to extend over the ball. You may hear a few pops or cracks. This may help to alleviate the pain and restore some function of the joints. If it does not help, see a Chiropractor and have the spine manipulated by a pro. I hope it helps. Take care and be well.

I've had basically these symptoms. I woke up about 3 weeks ago in the middle of the night with excruciating pain. It felt like it was in my back. I walked around and it was hurting bad but eventually inlaid back down and was able to sleep. It happened like that for 3 or 4 days and I had major trouble breathing at the time but for some reason my symptoms wouldn't be as bad during the day, just at night but it would definitely still hurt during the day. Well now I still sleep on my back sort of raised up but every morning I wake up when I push myself out of bed the area directly under my right breast hurts and when I get out of bed if I bend over it hurts but after 15 minutes it goes away and I can basically bend over the rest of the day and it doesn't hurt again until the next morning for that 15 minutes. When it first started happening it was in that spot on the back you pointed out. Today I looked and there was slight swelling and slight bruising in that area directly below my right breast. My breathing is back to normal and doesn't hurt. I figured it was getting better but after 3 weeks of still waking up hurting I can't figure it out. Could this be the same as you said in your video? Mine is on the right side of back and chest.

So i've been training for about 10 years almost. one night i wake up and my back hurts, 9/10. it goes to my chest and entire upper body basically. it was a long journey finding out how to avoid that, what not to do, how not to sleep etc, and also the fact that it is not a heartattack is important for confidence. after 1 year i still experience the same issue from time to time usually every 1-2 weeks. i stopped strength training due to that but started swimming. it did not pass, i still experience it from time to time, it's so painful but i am already familiar with the pain. i have my massage pistol i use on my upper back when it happens and just waits 10 minutes till it goes away. I have tried coming back to pull ups but it is getting worse. I did MRI, 2 orthopedics looked and said nothing special apart of some standard herniated discs ( I have background lifting heavy in the military). I went to physical therapy several times with 2 different therapists but nothing really helps. i did every Rhomboid/upper back/Thoracic exercises out there but nothing really helps. i stopped sleeping on my side because i found it it's 1 factor. I am in shape, maybe more then ever, but i still face these Spasm attacks as i call them. never have i encountered someone with the same injury but hey it looks like comments say it's more common than it looks like.
@whiplashz31 Жыл бұрын
Massage, stretching, exercise can be helpful, but the most important part of the "fix" is manipulation of the upper thoracic spine and costovertebral joints. If done properly, that should be the treatment to stop the pain and dysfunction. This is a very common condition and it responds really well to Chiropractic. The herniated discs should not be irritated by manipulation. It may be helpful for that as well. Good luck with your treatment and I hope you can get back in the gym without pain soon. Take care and be well.

This is my exact same issue for over four months! I cannot work out anymore and drumming is brutally painful after about half hour - the trouble breathing is even scarier - been checked many times in the ER and no issue with the heart thankfully - I was told this is a msk issue related to stress and anxiety. Going to see a physiotherapist next week to try and help with the brutal pains - I get it primarily in my upper right right back and then trickles to my middle lower back on both sides - then goes to my front - mainly have pain on my left sternum (especially when pressing on my ribs - ouch!!) and a little on the right side too - I do about half hour specific stretching each morning and yoga too - this definitely helps but the pain always comes back later in the day - anything you could recommend Dr. Eric before I go see the physiotherapist? Thank you so much for this video!! :)

I would recommend trying manipulation of the upper back and ribs. I doubt that the physiotherapist will perform that type of treatment. Find a good Chiropractor in your area and get in for an exam and diagnosis. Your symptoms sound a lot like what the video is referring to. The doctor should be able to pinpoint the problem fairly easily. Manipulation is the best treatment for that condition! The relief should be apparent very quickly. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Take care and be well

The ability to hold your breath really doesnt tell you if you have a serious underlying condition. Even if you are having a mild heart attack, you can still control your breathing. Hello Dr. Eric. Is T-4 syndrome the same as Costochondritis? I was diagnosed with a Costochondritis but I still am wondering if that’s really what’s going on. Truly it seems like nobody in my state of Colorado knows a whole lot about it. I’ve called around to multiple chiropractors and haven’t had much luck. I go to physical therapy but they’re not specific and manipulation of the back. I also purchased a Backpod and that actually seems to be helping a little bit. My pain started in November up in the thoracic spine area near where it meets the cervical spine. For weeks it was just very sore and then one night while laying in bed that thoracic spine area kind of went numb and started burning and it did that for a couple of weeks. The pain would subside as soon as I sat up. Then I had the tightness in the chest the pain off to the left side of my sternum and pain throughout my rib cage. I will also add that my trapezius muscles are spasming as well. Whenever I get down on the ground and adjust my back I hear the pop in my thoracic area and most of the pain subsides but it’s not a lasting fix. Do you think this is more T4 syndrome or costochondritis? My medical doctor just gives me pain meds do you suggest I I search for a spine specialist? I’m not sure where to go from this point.
@whiplashz312 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephanie. It sounds like you have a costovertebral issue similar to T4 syndrome, but it may be a little more complicated. I would have a good doctor in your area check your neck, upper back and ribs for any misalignment issues to determine where the nerve issues are coming from. Depending on the source of pain, I would get an MRI of the cervical or thoracic spine to rule out any disc pathology. Manipulation, muscle work and traction of the area should resolve your issue unless there is a disc herniation. An MRI should help arrive at a more accurate diagnosis.

Hello Doc, I hope someone can help me. I have severe chest pain where my sternum is, this comes on when I move either just from standing up or by taking a walk. I suffer from Fibromyalgia which I have had for 12+ years. The pain I feel in my chest leaves me considerably out of breath with my heart rate around the high 90’s. I am getting to the point now that it is becoming overwhelming. I have had my heart checked out and also a CT scan from my stomach to my throat and all the results were clear.
@chiro-medhealthwellnesscen14744 жыл бұрын
That's great that you have ruled out the life threatening and GI issues. Many times, the symptoms of chest and/or upper back pain with difficulty breathing can elicit panic attacks which can make the heart race. Find a good Chiropractor in your area and get an exam performed to determine if you have Costochondritis or simple rib dysfunction. Generally, when the ribs function more properly, the chest pain and difficulty breathing will decrease. When that happens, there will be less stress on your sympathetic nervous system and the heart rate increases should lessen as well. I hope this info is helpful. Let me know how it goes. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller

@whiplashz312 жыл бұрын
Hello Eddie. The trauma from the fall onto the backpack may have injured the upper back, ribs and/or sternum. If you did not have the symptoms prior to the fall and after the fall you did, that's a pretty easy connection. I doubt that the feet soreness is connected unless you injured the feet during the fall as well. Get to a good physician that does manipulation treatment such as a Chiropractor and have an exam to determine a good diagnosis and treatment plan so the pain does not become chronic. Try costovertebral manipulation to help loosen those joints. Also try to improve your posture by strengthening the upper back muscles (row exercises) and loosening the chest muscles (Pectoralis stretches). When you sit, you may be flexing the spine in the upper or mid back too much. Try to sit up straighter. Hope this helps. Take care and be well.

Hi, I have a question. So back in August I would have this pain in my left chest muscle. I went to a primary doctor and they believed it’s a muscle strain. It is now October. It began to heal some. Only thing is I am now experiencing upper back pain between my spine and shoulder blade on the left side. I have been in the process of correcting my posture so I have began doing stretches for that. The problem is after I do finish a workout focusing on that area, I get a very sharp pain in my chest on the left side that goes down to my rib area. I have health anxiety so it always takes awhile to calm down from it also not exactly helping. I was wondering what is it tho? Like why does it hurt that bad after?
@whiplashz313 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have some rib dysfunction. The head of the ribs can be felt between the spine and the shoulder blade and can be more easily felt during shoulder blade protraction. It is pretty common for people to have panic attacks when they experience chest, upper back and shoulder pain. Try manipulation of the upper back and ribs if dysfunction is found on examination. Find a good Chiropractor in your area and see if they can help. Good luck!

Hey doctor, i just recently started planking workouts and just tonight I have this pain in the sternum to the right chest and then upper right back pain(though back pain is present most of the time because maybe of poor posture due to work from home). Just not sure if it is musculoskeletal related. What could be the case I am having? A response would be great. Thank you Fyi: only present when I stretch or move thay triggers the pain
@OrlandparkchiropractorNet3 жыл бұрын
Hello Denisse. Sorry to hear of your pain. This sounds like a musculoskeletal issue and more than likely rib-related from the planking. Give it some time to heal and alternate ice and heat. Try stretching the trapezius, levator scapulae, rhomboids, thoracic paraspinal muscles and pectoralis muscles, especially on the affected side. You can try some upper back extension moves like foam rolling upper back or lying on your back on a balance ball to help loosen. If it is still bothering you in a week or so, then see a good Chiropractor to get an exam, some manipulation and a little muscle work. Let me know how it goes. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller

Hello Dr.. I have a question. I’ve been having chest pain for two months now. I’m 19 years old boy, and I was always quite active, doing home trainings for my body and so on. So one night i woke up with pain in my chest on my left side, it felt like the problem was my heart. So I did the tropo test and my doctor said that there is nothing wrong with my heart and that there isn’t any sign of heart attack. But this feeling didn’t go away. And than a few days after, i felt pain in my uper back, at the exact same spots , which you showed in the video. I feel sharp pain in my lungs a lot of times in a day which is always conected to my breathing, and back pain almost all the time. They also scaned my lower abdoben(lungs not included) and everything was great. Do you have any suggestion what could cause this pain?
@whiplashz314 жыл бұрын
Considering you have already ruled out the heart and lung issues, the pain is more than likely coming from the musculoskeletal system. You may have strained a muscle(rhomboids, lower trapezius) while working out and that tension may have caused some rib dysfunction. Definitely try some manipulation treatment to your upper back, ribs and perhaps the neck as well. You will know when the doctor finds your problem, because it will be tender when they touch/provoke the spot. Continue stretching the affected area and applying heat to try to loosen the associated muscles. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller

Numbness is a sign of nerve irritation or lack of circulation. Muscle tightness and pain could also be related to nerve irritation and/or joint issues. I would get a full spinal examination to determine if there are misalignments or fixations that are causing stress to the nerves and joints. Full spine manipulation may be a very beneficial therapy for your problems.

Hello Alesha. Sorry to hear of your symptoms. Congrats on your pregnancy! Considering your pregnancy, x-rays cannot be taken to help identify the source of musculoskeletal pain, however a Chiropractic physician or a Doctor of Osteopathy should be able to palpate your upper back and ribcage to determine if there is any problems there that may be causing your symptoms. Manipulation of the thoracic spine and chest wall or rib cage may give you significant relief and correct the underlying cause if associated. Try it out. It is safe to perform manipulation while you are pregnant as well. Please stay away from the energy drinks!

Through examination and x-ray, the physician should be able to diagnose if the problem is coming from neck, upper back or rib or all of the above and treat appropriately. Sometimes, the condition can get a little worse at first when provoked during treatment, but you should be able to work through that if you are getting the right treatment. Communication with your provider should help. Let the doctor know what feels better/worse, etc. Sometimes there is some trial and error with treatment. Often, it takes more than just a quick manipulation. A combination of manipulation, muscle work, stretching and strengthening is usually the most effective. The physician may need to add some pain management treatment as well. Get an MRI of the cervical and thoracic spine to confirm the diagnosis. Maybe the Docs are missing something. Yes. Sometimes the pain can refer upwards to the neck as well. Often there is increased tension in the trapezius muscle that has fibers that go up the neck to the base of the skull. Try manipulation of the upper thoracic spine, costovertebral joints and cervical spine to reduce the pain and restore better function. Dont wait! Symptoms like numbness and burning can indicate nerve irritation which can become permanent if left untreated for too long. I hope it helps. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller

Sir please tell what could be a treatment my mother experiencing same kind of chest pain , ecg tmt tests are normal
@whiplashz313 жыл бұрын
If heart, lung and esophagus are well, then chest pain is more than likely musculoskeletal and manipulation of the thoracic spine and costovertebral joints should be very effective.

You probably caused a misalignment when you hit the floor. Seek the help of a Chiropractor or another physician that performs manipulation to adjust the ribs and upper back. If there are no physicians like that, then try to self manipulate your upper back by putting a soccer ball between a chairback and your mid to upper back and push your body backwards from a table to extend your spine over the soccer ball. try this gently at first and then try to push over the fulcrum (soccer ball) more and more. You may hear some cracks in the mid to upper back and that may help decrease some of the pain. continue to stretch the area and try to move it to loosen the muscles and joints as well.

Muscle relaxers barley work and I was at the doctors 2 weeks ago or so and my blood pressure she said was great. This damn anxiety I was so scared... I've had rib pain for years but no one told me how to fix it just ebt to give me meds and I dont take pain pills so I'm in a pickle lol but my heart rate is normal for someone with anxiety and my air is 97 and the nurse said since we live in the mountains that's pretty good she said she doesnt see many people with that intake. So I was confused how everything could go left but I knew something was wrong with my back and the way you explained is how I feel even the arm pain.

i developed something like this a few times, im currently on my 3rd time experiencing these achey symptoms around my chest. I've found great relief foam rolling my back the last two times.. symptoms come back every few months when I'm not proactively stretching like I should.
@whiplashz312 жыл бұрын
Foam rolling the mid and upper back can be helpful especially if you get some releases in the Costovertebral and spinal joints while performing it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Chest wall little pain and how stop less pain?
@whiplashz3110 ай бұрын
If your pain is less, but still present in the same areas, the treatment is the same but less aggressive in frequency and duration. Manipulation to the upper back and ribs is usually the most effective treatment. Muscle work can be helpful as well. Take care and be well.

First of all thank u for the Vedio. I am male of 25 years and many times I visited to many doctors they recommend me to stop lifting weights and some even considered it as a gastric problem,actually doctor I feel the same pain like upper back and chest pain and shortness of breath usually in night when I lie down to my bed and even in day time when I lie down to sleep.As I m a student I have no heavy works to do instead of my voluntary lifting weights in gym and as I told u after the recommendation of doctors I even left gym but still I m suffering from the pain in upper back, chest pain and shortness of breathing please doctor do help me
@whiplashz314 жыл бұрын
Definitely try to get manipulation performed to your upper back and chest wall by a medical provider such as a Chiropractor. Due to the fact that it seems to worsen when lying down, try elevating the head of your bedframe by at least 4 inches. There are little rubber bedframe elevators you can purchase or make your own. If you are having issues with esophageal reflux, this can remedy the situation. I hope this info is helpful. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller
