Today we took the children to Upper Canada Village on a summer field trip, back in time to the 1800's. Join us as we see how people lived in the 1860's. Upper Canada Village is one of the largest living history museums in Canada. The children really enjoyed Upper Canada Village learning about all the trades of the day, such as tinsmith, cabinet making, dress making, food preparation, blacksmithing, printing, weaving, farming and so much more. Today we often hear of coming recession, and how interesting it is to see how people lived in days that they had a lot less and yet relied heavily on utilizing what they had around them. Come and take a trip back in time with me and get a feel of life in the 1860's!

I went here when I was very young when my grandparents lived in Morrisburg, early 70s, and I still remember how much I enjoyed it. Being a printer by trade I enjoyed seeing the print shop in your video, even I didn't know paper was once made from old clothes. In case anyone is interested what the woman is doing at the beginning is called type setting and yes, it does take a long time, in fact it was still used occasionally in modern times in older letterpress machines but I haven't seen it since the 1980s when they switched to plates which are much easier and quicker to use. P.S. if the type wasn't locked in place properly it could all fall out and what a crash.
