You missed a very important map by Emanuel Bowen titled a New and Accurate Map of Africa Which goes well with John Ogilby's book : Africa being an accurate description of the regions

It might come off as extremely arrogant for the European powers to meet up and carve up a continent between them - and it was - but the division of spheres of influence was intended to set boundaries on who was allowed to project power where to prevent any conflicts from spilling over the borders back home. These industrial, colonial powers had business and geopolitical interests in an underdeveloped Africa and obviously the whole concept of a colonial government precludes the sovereignty of the people there but it made sense (for them) to recognize the interests of the others in order to stop wars that would immediately endanger their own people while strengthening their nations through this colonialism to try to get the upper hand if, and when, war eventually broke out anyway. It's competition, it's survivalism, it's the same frivolous, fragile type of alliance that dominates history, especially early modern European history. It would be hard to argue that with the power disparity between the European powers and the African peoples that such a state of affairs was not inevitable. They only ever found out how to fill out the maps by surveying what territories they perceived as theirs and what they perceived as their frenemies'.

Isn't this just making more accurate maps and not filling in the interior with details you don't know like they used to for artistic reasons?

History these days, always have to mention Europe, doesn’t matter which continent. there was a time before the Europeans when maps were being used in Stone Age. People were making maps such as the ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Phoenicians, Assyrians etc, but this was not even mentioned in this video for a title called unmapping Africa. Sure the scale of these ancient maps were much smaller but a 10 second mention would’ve been great.

Let me get this straight, you are upset that a video on the topic of European mapping of Africa, mentions Europe? "Maps" as a concept is not what's being discussed here, so maps made by Stone Age people or Mesopotamians is also not relevant. In what way would a "10 second mention" even factor into the video? What relevance does that have?

the video is talking about the europeans making maps of africa, then unmapping it and starting over again in drawing africa with only european reports
