I find it so strange that someone like Talib fails to realise the self serving nature, the cunning, deceitful never ending quest for power that Mr Nancy represents - he is so much like Oden in that regard. He even tells the slaves that they should die a sacrifice, he doesn't say to what or whom, but anyone who watches the show would know it is a sacrifice to *him* - that makes him more powerful. Just as how Shadow Moon sacrifices himself to Oden, blood sacrifices are the most powerful things to the gods. Yet people watch that sequence as if its some liberation speech. That's not what it is, Mr Nancy is looking for power, like all the gods, and like all the trickster gods he is willing to deceive and trick them into doing things, to serve him and his power, he is willing to play them like strings, using their human nature against themselves.

Orlando Jones should do a series called 'This is America, the Mr Nancy version. Where he talks about the systematic racism and inequality that has continuously gone on in America. How old laws have always been recycled into every generation but been given in different ways (same shoes different feet). The show, 'This is America will give you the raw unfiltered version of the truth but in a 8 part series. Just an idea I had in mind for Orlando Jones to consider, if he wrote American Gods then his input would be needed into this show. I'm just brainstorming this idea that somebody should do, but the role will be Orlando Jones as My Nancy as "Angry Gets Shit Done". Pilot, 1st episode would be called 'The Calm before the Storm'. The 2nd episode would be called 'Shine your eyes, 3rd episode 'The Awakening', 4th episode 'The Grass isn't Greener.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (someone send this to Orlando Jones). #This is America#

I've only seen season 1, mr. Nancy was mesmerizing. Orlando Jones is fucking mezmerizing as an actor. Tell me if I'm wrong, but Ansansi in American Gods struck me as an agent of chaos and mischief, like the Norse Aesir Loki. His path leads to knowledge and a personal choice; greater wisdom or destruction. Sometimes both. I'm seriously bummed Orlando's not on the show anymore, his contributions made season 1 incredible. The books and this show tapped into humanity's main artery of mythology and folklore, all of which I love. And why the fuck would Anansi NOT be angry.....
@goddessaset

Well Anansi.... Is the Trickster deity of the Ashanti people in Africa.... soooooo Anansi is arguably older than Norse mythology based on the Viking age and the thousands of years prior that the ancient African tribes existed. But that's neither here nor there. Orlando is great. The character was great. This show is now going to do the same thing they always do now.... Glaze over the power and issues of Black ppl and the deities they brought from Africa..

@@Wittemn I do, yes. I suspect you're responding to goddassaset above. It's why Zeus and Odin/Thor have so many similarities.

Orlando Jones has always been incredibly interesting. I need to follow him to see what other projects he’s working on. I’d love to see some shows that he executive produces. I like him as an actor but I do feel that his artistic and cultural aesthetic needs to go wider than just what he acts on. And it would be bomb if he could bring back Mad TV or some other sketch comedy show. It is sorely missing on the national state and SNL is just not cutting it. I’m watching a lot of great comedians, but I’d love to see a unified attempt at cultural discourse with a comedic edge.

I'm Puerto Rican and Anansi was my first superhero. When I was read the story of Anansi from the Ashanti story, and then saw the same cartoon, reading Neil Gaiman's Anansi's Boys and American Gods. I've always ran towards anything Anansi because he's the one hero I wanna meet but when Orlando Jones brought my first favored hero to life I didn't know Mr. Jones would be the hero I'd need to meet. I mean for all intents and purposes, his two performance speeches on the slave ship and funeral parlor had literally stole the show from main stars, who, through the 3 seasons have never conveyed such performances so poignant, they couldn't overshadow Mr Jones. The stars had some unintended shoes to fill and new they couldn't and didn't like it, I'm speculating, of course.

I felt like I was tapping in with my ancestors when Anansi came on. That was different man, respect to Neil Gaimon for bringing that into his story. Amazing acting from Orlando Jones who must’ve been guided by the ancestors in that portrayal, absolutely spot on. I appreciate seeing a black character that doesn’t waver in times of adversity especially during the times of slavery. It’s refreshing to see the side of the story of our people that we’re not only resilient but also powerful and would rather die on this physical plain with their heads held high, than bow down and become a slave. Powerful. I really want to see a spin off involving the African God’s that ended up travelling the world in the hearts of their people in the Diaspora. Maybe some more about the Haitian God’s and those of the “deep south” bayou regions where “voodoo” is involved. I’m invested. But again, well done for your portrayal of Anansi, it was second to none. Still mad they cancelled it but hey, we move.

Great interview, awesome information, and a fan of the People's Party podcast but for a minute I wanna step aside from the main context of the story and speak on the last minute of Mr. Jones comment ( me being from St. Louis ) and say this: I always wondered what the reaction would be if I walked into Busch Stadium with a Curt Flood jersey on? He had a very powerful message to present to sports then and now. It's way past due, the jersey needs to be made!

RIP Anansi. one of my favourite characters from AG, it's a shame they cut you loose. Show coulda gone on for 8 seasons with who they had (since they're not 100% canon to the books anyways).

Orlando had the American Gods’ creators, show runner and producers shook. I wholeheartedly believe they felt the ancestors and were scared to death of elevating a character speaking truth to power. Orlando, it’s time for you to emancipate yourself from Hollywood. It’s obvious your intellect and writing skills is a threat. If you haven’t, develop your production company and start producing your own films and tv series. You’ll definitely receive my support!!!
